My best moment was when my einherjar LS got the first post-bannings win over Odin...we lost a lot of good people but that was the ultimate symbol of perseverance for a lot of us.

Hah, yeah. x_x Deleveling totally sucked. I remember my first Sky LS, we were running Byakko, Seiryu, and Genbu, and I was like 73? I'm not so sure anymore, it was awhile ago.

FFXI has given me so many memories that I wouldn't know where to start. What I do know is, every now and again I sit down quietly, put on the FFXI Piano Collection and the memories of people I met, things we did and felt at the time, all come flooding back to me and sometimes rekindle new memories of old times in FFXI. It is a bitter sweet moment but one I come back to time and time again. There is no question that part of me will always be holding onto those precious years in FFXI. No matter what people say about FFXI or how many people say it I know that, for me, it was the greatest game I've ever played and that was mostly down to the people that played it.

Would we be foolish to think we could rekindle some of those memories in FFXIV? I think so but hopefully FFXIV will be home to a whole new set of fond memories that we can carry with us for many years to come.

I've got quite a few. The first time I walked onto an airship was definitely huge.

I remember getting Rank 10 Sandy around level 60. I had a friend who was just hardcore about being able to get people together. He made a quick LS... RankTenSandy. We got a lot of people and would do several missions and then take a break to the next day so that people could finish up running around parts. For the most part we honestly zerged it. However, that last fight wasn't so zergable and we sure as hell wiped several times with a group ranging from 50-62. After pulling that off you couldn't've wiped the smile off of my face for a week.

Beating Maat was a big deal. I went the epic evasion SV+2xMambo route (BRD). I borrowed a friends SH+1 and various other insane evasion pieces from different people I knew. It was awesome to have people just willing to give me tons of random gear so I could nail it.

I can't remember the first time I really tanked something (as BRD/NIN), but I sure as hell got a huge amount of pride once people respected me enough to let me. I was usually the primary kiter for Kirin. I tanked Hakutaku a million times and it was always with random groups. "Who's gonna tank?" "The taru bard" "lol no seriously... who's gonna tank?" They were always awestruck. I also remember tanking all of the ZMs for some guy who thought it was BS. I did avatars for people on a regular basis as well. I loved how awed they were.

Stepping into sea after a month or so with my CoP static was pretty awesome. That was pre-nerf and we did it up hardcore. I remember going to IHOP with my wife to celebrate almost every night (somewhere around 3 in the morning) after downing any particular mission. I remember that we ended up nearly finishing the airship battle on the dry run (we were 1/1 on every BC up to that point). We decided to give a second dry run... our group wasn't a good combo for it. We finally let all out on the 3rd run and got it no problem.

Getting Diablo for my level 1 SMN was pretty awesome. Went right when the servers came up and dealt with the clusterfuck that was going on there and waiting for the instance. Our group was pretty lol and we mana burned it.

75 was a big deal for me. My wife and I were in a party and she'd gotten a little ahead of me. She hit 75 and then when I was about 1k tnl the party broke up. My wife and I duo'd elementals (BRD+BLM) until I dinged.

I remember always being proud of the amount of skill and synergy my wife and I had together. We duo'd all of the Bastok missions with no help and I believe we did all but maybe one of the Windy missions with just the two of us. There was so much we could duo and we just got great at understanding how strategize off of one another's skills.

We had a guy in my one shell that literally would only have like 1k xp buffer. And he was kind of a marginal ninja. So we would hear the deleveling sound at least two or three times per event. And it never got old. Not once.

There's a few that come to mind for me.

Our first Fafnir kill. There was about 50 of us there and we tanked him right in the face (not on the legs). I was doing that Garuda blink move in rotation to keep the tanks blinked. We were pulling spiders to TP on because we didn't want to melee fafnir.

Our first Kirin kill. It was before anyone ever thought about PLD/NIN tanking, and our main tank decided to PLD/NIN tank it. It was extremely smooth. Giaz (our tank at the time) had no trouble keeping hate.

    On some personal notes:

Getting the airship (rank 5) at level 21 or so.
    Getting Sky at level 51.

Oh god the airship pass. Friends decided they were going to get me rank 5 for Xmas and dragged me through it at about level 30ish... walked onto the airship feeling like "yeah I'm in the big league now baby".

all my good memories of the game with great moments was from 05 mostly. i remember doing CoP missions up till the 50 cap stuff as war before any nerfs to CoP and while war being my first job i did to 75 was just reaching the lvls for those caps. it felt great doing CoP fights right at the lvls for them unnerfed and actually going 1/1 on every fight right into when i eventually went past the 50 cap fights much later on.

defeating maat as war was amazing back then. took me 4 tries cause i tried using axe instead of GA the first 3 tries lol. lvl'd GA to cap before the 4th try and crushed him with it.

konoha had a few good memories too. (pretty sure this was also khelek and marius's first endgame shell too) i got to learn sky and dynamis with these guys although we never could clear dynamis back then lol. thinking back on it dynamis seemed much harder before we had the gear and job changes we got since 05/06

My first kirin kill was great. got hecatomb harness that day and won the lot on it against close to 20 people in my ls at the time by lotting a 997 ^^. luck was on my side that night. depressing though that it was tierbreche's only kirin kill due to xzavian quitting ffxi 2 weeks later. didn't get to do kirin again after that till over a year+ later.

most recent achievement though that made me stand up outta my seat and cheer though was getting aurum sabatons a month ago. damn those feet are sexy on war ^^

Man so many good memories... going to try to remember in a semi chronological order.

The first time I logged on (First week of NA PC release), being mesmerized by everything I saw and confused at trying to figure out all the controls - having to ask someone if I needed to check the body of the first rabbit I killed to loot items >_<

Hitting lvl 30 and going on an advanced job unlock spree with a friend - we unlocked every single advanced job (with many delevels along the way) over the next 2 weeks. Some great memories of sneaking through Ranguemont pass to get to Ice weather etc. to complete all the jobs.

50 Cap! and AF quests when there were no 60+ NA on your server. This was probably some of the most intense times I had in game. 20 hour coffer key parties in places like Castel Zhavl, Eldiemme etc. Getting Lich drops for your cap quest felt like you won the freaking lottery.

Zoning into sky for the first time... amazing. Our first Kirin kill was a PLD kite nightmare that actually had Kirin run out of MP x_x, but I ended up with the first NA Crimson Cuisses on our server from that one. Osode a few weeks later, back when that was pretty much the most bad ass body gear in the game. (Before NA really started camping Faf/Nid regularly)

First DL kill; First completed set of AF2

Finishing CoP with a static group before the nerf.

    Finishing salvage bodies

    Finishing Maat's Cap

    Finishing Amano/ Yoichi

The only main goals I have left at this point are to finish Spharai and the last couple of drops I need for full Ares/ Usu. I do feel like this is the twilight for my time in FFXI too - as much as I have enjoyed it and have worked my ass off for accomplishments, I am really looking foward to trying FF14, hopefully at a much more relaxed pace...

Same! Specially on Ramuh, took me 3? tries and I kept blaming my Summoning skill!

Another one, finishing Sleepga II quest (at 75, of course) it was such a need for any serious BLM and was such a relief for me.

    1. Hitting 75 on BST when it was actually an accomplishment

    2. Spending the entire summer of 2004 making money so I could pimp my Monk out in elite level 40 gear (Kotes, Jujitsu Gi, Snipers, Brown Belt). This sadly didn't do jack shit to up my invite rate thanks to the Distortion-onry mentality back then.

    3. Beating CoP completely in PUG's, mostly before the Snoll/Tenzen nerf.

    4. Doing my first Sky God with my social LS. It was only Genbu but none of us had ever fought a God before, and none of us were terribly well equipped, but we had a blast. I tanked it on MNK/NIN and it took us like 45 minutes to kill, but it was a great accomplishment for us at the time.

    5. Duoing Sandy 9-2 on NIN with a THF friend of mine. Wow that was a thrilling fight which I thought we had no shot of winning.

Planning to take WAR to 37 and then PLD to 75 -- and then getting Sturmwind. Convinced myself that SAM would be the best thing ever to sub to WAR (and I was right, just six years early!), and begged my friend to help me unlock it as soon as I hit 30, listening to the lecture about how WAR/SAM was doomed to fail the whole time.

Meeting Tempyst and ruining his life informing him that we were going to level to 75 together. Making Tempyst drag a level 40-something WAR/THF all over the goddamn world. Postcards of Vana'diel. Exploring Pso'Xja when it first came out, hitting something I shouldn't, fighting the two Gargoyles. "Hold on, let me get my buffs". Bifrons and the Chainspell-Utsusemi win from hell. The Yallory Brown method!

CoP: Almost crying (no, I cried) when we zoned from Promyvvion-Holla into Lufaise Meadows. It felt like a FF game at that moment. Finally, finally, finally, FINALLY beating the airship, with the absolute worst jobs. We cheered. Doing a 1997 Steel Cyclone to Promathia's face.

My Martial Bhuj dropping. Still the gold standard of squealing on vent.

    There's a million more.

I'll say CoP missions too, with the added bonus of beating the last two fights with only five people. Oh the horror stories I heard about the pots, and we were able to take them down with five. I felt pretty good about that.

The day after I got my ring, the update teaser announced they were making the missions easier and throwing in EXP bonuses for helping.

I just thought of more, lol.
Having Dynamis - Beaucidedine access at level 67 and having Xarcabard access at 68 a week later.
    Having 3/5 AFv2 when I was level 71 as well as a lolGenbu's Shield.
And killing DL in my last LS before I quit a month later. I still have pictures of that fight, lol.
