Completing Gjallarhorn, self funded with some epic luck, took just under 2 weeks from deciding to do it >> completing.

After around 5 years...so many memories lol. Just in end game...

    1. First Tiamat Kill...was May of 2006 I believe. Was LSs first Wyrm kill, I tanked along with two others. Took 4 hours and a spike flail recovery. We weren't the first NAs but it was still a big deal. Before that moment we were an okay sky shell getting our feet wet on Jorm. Afterward, we were one of the big three that were the faces of the server for quite some time. Gaiters dropped too on our first kill, only time I literally fell out of my chair screaming like a little girl.

    2. First Bahamut v2 kill - This is my single greatest tanking achievment. Its not OMG amazing I suppose, but I solo tanked Bahamut v2 on NIN/WAR way back in the day. With that shitty sub job and gear and abilities back then, I basically couldn't ever really get hit and had to do everything possible(which was very little...voke and ninjutsu) to keep hate along with perfect timing for those god damn flares and coordination with the BLMs to nuke. I really miss this fight, the melee zerg is just too easy. This strat before zerg was never really a sure thing and everyone had to bring their A game. Was a great test of a shell's skill.

First Vrtra was great too, along with plenty of other "firsts," but those two were those "We have arrived" moments.

Hitting 75, beating Kirin, getting Thief Knife old-school (camped him 3 months straight)...

Beating Jorm, Tiamat, Vrtra. Had one of the first Dragon Harnesses on the server. So much so, that a JP checked me and asked if I RMTed it cause I guess he couldn't believe NAs could beat Wyrms. hahaha.

6 man Jorm XD Low Manning a ton of really tough mobs... Helping my friends get really awesome items

Finishing Gjallarhorn! No more /check for every single bazaar I run by :D

Running Dynamis for my first time, and now leading the shell with a great and awesome group of people. XD

This game has lots of great memories.

Getting sea within the first week or so of it comming out. At the time pretty much only top tier players with strong static parties could get it, but our ragtag group still managed to beat all of CoP. Was awesome.

For me it was also finishing my first 75, SMN. What made it so special to me was the fact I was crazy enough to go forward on it as a Galka. I was the first NA on our server to get a Galka to 75 SMN, and it is something I'm very proud of. I've also completed a few other "first galka SMN on server" accomplishments, but none as proud as that 75.

And to this day my SMN is still my greatest accomplishment. I take great pride in it, and have put in the work and effort to produce what I hope many feel as one of the best SMNs on the server. It was hard work breaking thru some of the real and preceived challenges of being a Galka SMN, but the rewards have made up for it.

I love these topics. I feel like every accomplishment/achievement is a story all its own. I'll probably list a few of these as the thread progresses. So... yeah....

    1. Defeating Ose... in an EXP Party:
This is always a favorite. Back in the day, LabOfO was one of those exp spots that you had to area search for BEFORE departing Jeuno. There was always the fear of that cat appearing and wrecking shop on your party as well. Mostly, it didn't happen due to people heavily camping. I can remember an occasion, however, where the area had ran low on coeurls. Our static party was feeling particularly froggish, so we lept. The battle was so enthusing. Everyone was so spot on. This was long before the great mid-end level gear, the buffs to jobs, and etc. We were skillchaining, balancing hate, and assisting each other perfectly. It came to the point where we had a small crowd around us watching, cheering.

I'm really not sure what the best part was: beating Ose, or actually getting the drop from Ose. Either way, the feeling was incredible. It showed us, as a static party, that we were untouchable - or at least, we felt that way.

My greatest achievement was getting my Voyager Sallet. I didn't know tod so I plunked myself down for 18 hours straight to find them and helped a Japanese Blm trio kill them on my Blm. The next day I dragged my Red Mage friend Trindane to the island and we found that we were the only ones there. Not having any idea how to kill the Dobsonflies by ourselves I came up with an ingenius, albeit ridiculous, solution.

I kicked Trindane from the party, and cast Bio II, Poison, and tried to cast a Burn before getting viciously mauled. Then I told him to raise me. He sort of stared at me and the 10 Carmine Dobsonflies trying to figure out what my plan was, as he saw the one I doted slowly tick down a few % as we stared at it. Then when I saw my two dots had fallen off, I repeated it. At about that time he started laughing at me, but an hour or two later, 2/10 "suicides" (death by dot before being reclaimed), and 48,000 experience points lost on my Black Mage and being a few thousand xp from re-dinging 74, I had a shiny Voyager Sallet for my Samurai.

Without a doubt, my two biggest achievements in this game would be beating Maat and getting Red Mage to 75, my first job to 75.

It took me 7 tries and approximately 700,000 Gil (for a Wind Staff, food and Vile elixirs) to beat Maat at Level 70 in 2 minutes and 20 seconds using a method a Japanese Red Mage told me over four years ago. I didn't have the best gear then, not even an enfeebling or elemental torque. I was even still wearing HQ Level 14 INT Rings and Hume Female RSE boots from Level 29 for INT for the fight. My other gear was a Black Neckerchief for another boost of INT. I would have lost it but the Fencer's Earring's Latent Effect kicked in when Maat casted Blizzard III on me. Thank goodness for that Magic damage -30% and I ate a 80~ish damage from it. Chainspell was still active so immediately recasted Stoneskin and Blink, Converted and Cure IV-ed just in time before it wore. Then, I proceeded to nuke the living daylights out of this geriatric mutant.

Two minutes and twenty seconds, I won't forget that. I still have the original Red Mage Testimony I used and the Fencer's Earring to this day.

I look back to that day and think about how far I've gotten. My gear is obviously a lot better and improved. I've learned how to play Red Mage really well, and grateful for the people that helped me then.

Crazy how five years go by so fast, and come next year, FFXIV might remove a lot of people from this game. I guess overall it's been a good experience; a rather emotionally and mentally draining one many times.

If I decide to play XIV, maybe I'll take up their equivalent of Red Mage again, or start melee this time around like Dragoon or Dancer equivalents.

Red Mages are something I've never been able to play, but I've seen how amazing they are several times over. Their solo abilities are fantastic for one. In fact, I remember when my friend, Reaperx, decided to help me finish the last few ZM missions until Sky access, which we duo'd. Good times were had. Remembering all this makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Killing Tiamat with an all bst/smn ls in about 30-40 min. I believe it was the first pet only kill on the server, but may be wrong there. Server is Fenrir, btw.

Could list the jobs to 75 or the relic weapon or the "first to beat X on server"... but really I think my greatest achievement has been starting from scratch after LM-17 and doing things the "right" way, enjoying myself, not caring as much about endgame - but pursuing long time goals that I'd set aside in my previous quest to be the best.

Dinging 75 on White Mage in June 04 --- It was in a conventional KRT party back then when I would double magic burst on light skillchains with holy and banish. I thought I was finally done leveling. I was only 39 dings and counting off.

Getting WHM AF2 Body in October 04 -- Almost no NA shells could even do dynamis. Honestly, wiffleball might have been one of the first NA shells that far at the time.

Those level 20 avatar fights back when they first came out --- Too few NAs were high enough to do avatar primes, so I had to do the level 20 fights. I remember R0ing multiple times in the middle of fights after I used a bunch of ethers (back when they were expensive) and trying to keep myself from trashing the room with how mad I was.

Every Ridill that dropped --- You would view it in the loot pool and about a half a second later would just be loud static on vent.

Soloing all of CoP (via 6-boxing) --- The amount of work involved in planning a do-able strategy with playing 6 characters at the same time was very complicated. The airship battle was 45 minutes of pure concentration and rapid window switching. (actually 44 minutes and 54 seconds) I got a laugh out of my 4-6 boxes waltzing into sea with 12 days playtime.

    Getting my sub job

Making the long run trough Jugner Forest and Batallia Downs to jeuno for the first time

Ding war to 30 and unlocking SAM('05) and later on having to get the last 7 levels on WAR.

Going up in the lower defulkt tower for 3-3 and then magicite was "fun" to do.

Not having a haub at 60 sam(prices on fairy then was high back then)

Some other things too but some of those above mainly

edit: ShadowLord that fight was awesome the first time doing it and the music too

Back when my highest job was lvl73 NIN, my sky shell was doing it's first Kirin. It took us about 6 hours to kill it, well, it was only when a better shell turned up and teamed up with us that we could actually finish it off.

Basically, it dropped 2 Shura body abjurations which me and my friend got. It was was significant because we actually uncursed them. This was back when the materials were around 18mil for one. And we were two of a handfull of non-jp's with Shura togi's!

I pimped that shit on my nin til 2005 tbh.

When I compare that to getting Shura togi+1 or even my relic, it doesn't really measure up for some reason lol.

    1. Speed Belt. Had gone about 0/15, was camping with my friends, including Hocuspocus, who had recently left the shell. Some others logged on and came out to make it an official event, but I was glad he was around when it dropped. This trumps all other accomplishments when adding the wave of nostalgia from going effectively 1/1 on V-Belt a few weeks ago, with Hocus and Kenshiin the ones who showed up to help me avoid raging him.

    2. LS decided to start working together towards sky one evening, and we kept deciding to go just a little further. Come 3AM, I stepped into sky with Kenshiin, promptly aggroed a Detector ("What the fuck, it says Too Weak?"), and he had to save me. Decided I needed to read up on sky before returning the next night, and got fed the Alla storm of misinformation (Remember hearing that everything has sight aggro during light weather?).

    3. Ridill. Might be #2 if I'd had WAR leveled already.

    4. Dusk Gloves +1. 1/9. What sold me on crafting.

    5. The first time I went 2/2 on Cerberus Mantle +1. In the space of 30 seconds, I got the other piece of armor I'd leveled leathercraft for, and paid for the entire expense of leveling leather plus about 14 million gil.

    6. About a 50,000-way tie between everything I've tanked where the fight didn't go south and take my enjoyment with it. And I mean everything. One of my most memorable tanking experiences was in the mid 50s on NIN when the BRD questioned my lack of evasion gear and I proceeded to tank for the next hour and a half without losing hate for more than a few seconds or taking a point of non-AOE damage. I pray that the dev team does something to convince the player base that NIN is a viable endgame tank, because as overpowered as PLD is now it can't really compare aesthetically to objectively flawless NIN tanking.

I posted already, but it just hit me why I really wanted to keep leveling. I had a single goal in my time on BLM, to equip a single piece of gear. When I was brand new, people told me that I had to EXP in the Dunes, and that was that. I was standing around outside Selbina waiting for my party to fill, and there happened to be a bunch of tarus standing around in a circle. A BLM rode in and hopped off, and joined out little panic circle. I fell in love the with black cloak he was wearing, and made it my ultimate goal (at the time) to actually equip one. About 2 months later, I did, during an EXP party in Bibiki Bay, about 30 minutes prior to my first ever Dynamis (Jeuno).

6 man Jorm was epic. I thought soooo many times we were done for. But 3 and a half hours later we came out victorious. One of the few groups to ever do this anywhere I think. (Although most people could if they tried, they just don't :/)
