Greatest Achievements in FFXI

Ha, I have a lot. In chronological order:

*I remember swearing up and down I would never touch FFXI cause I saw no merit in playing a game that had no end. My friend Tenshiiryu invited me to his home and showed me how he was killing mobs in Gustaberg. I was hooked and went out to buy it at Target that same day. Spent all night installing and updating and turned it on in the morning before school to be greeted by the Sandorian Bagpipes. It was the first time I really felt the gravity of how huge and expansive this world could be. It was very exciting!

*On my first REAL day of playing, I wandered into KRT and saw a SMN (Greco) at the entrance summoning every single avatar so I could see them. He apologized for not having Fenrir to show me. Thats when I KNEW that I had to be a SMN (although I initially planned on being PLD!)

*Next would be my first trip to Jeuno (it was HUEG LIKE XBOX) and finally jumping on the airship to Kazham for the first time. After all the buildup by my in-game friends and the brady guide, I was super stoked to ride it. When I finally zoned into the jungle I was in awe.

* Within a few days of reaching Jeuno, I saw a start-up casino (Much different from the casinos of today) and figured out how to make my fortune. I turned 5k in 32m before I hit level 31. The name I earned for myself and the money it has made me has ensured that I haven't had to farm anywhere outside of Lower Jeuno or Whitegate to this day.

*Paying Kenshinth and Jakefirebrand 1 million gil to help me collect my G1 items.

* Hitting 75 for the first time on SMN in KRT doing Astral Burn parties (not like Astral Flow burns; using all titans and doing Mountain Buster!) in the "secret" room.

* Starting an LS collecting all high-level SMN to do Fenrir for people. We were booked solid every day for a month.

*After serving as a minion for a while, I finally became the leader of an HNM shell (DarkLegions) and have managed to keep it together in one way or another to this day 4 years later.

*Killing our first Genbu as an LS made me yell with Joy and pride. And then every god subsequently. I had a similar reaction the first day we TP burned Kirin.

* Killing Hydra as the first "real" HNM we did as an endgame shell (as opposed to a sky/force pop shell).

*Obtaining Bahamut's Staff, an item I never thought I would own due to the difficulty of Bahamut v2.

*Killing our first Ouryu, Tiamat and Jormungand within a week of each other. Since then we kill more Ouryu and Bahamuts than anyone else on our server.

*Obtaining an Aegis for my lvl 23 PLD after 13 months of collecting currency.

*Hitting 75 PLD, equipping Aegis and tanking my first HNM (Tiamat) a week later, and winning.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I'm sure I have a lot more, most of which stemming from my LS flourishing. Pride as a leader I guess!

However, all of this pales in comparison to the fun times I have had with the people I have met on this game. Some of which have turned into real life friendships and relationships. My relationship with two of my real life best friends became stronger due to this game as well!

this is not chronologic or w/e, just what is on my mind when i think of my greatest achievements in ffxi..


- various AV fights in the year 2006 with LB, which resulted in me obtaining a Mars's Ring in (i believe) september 2006

- getting e.body abj summer 2005, cursed hauberk synthed by Pokorny since there were never any on AH

- meeting Raiji in selbina 2003 or 04 who invited me to my first social ls

- getting into LB, meeting ppl like Masago, Phoebee and Valezka

- killing tiamat, jormungand and vrtra on the same day

- finishing usukane & ares' set

- "friend" pushing me to do a relic, started apocalypse 21th feb and finished 23rd april 2009

- being sackholder of the best salvage ls on odin, meeting some of my best friends ingame through the ls like emmaliz, tohmane and yinx (fuck tonnberry)

- obtaining my 1st piece of homam thanks to Phoebee's LS (fuck yes homam zucchetto; no joke, was awesome)

- obtaining 1st ace's helm on Odin

- the early iceland runs/dl kill/drk af2 completed with obsidian(huge dynamis ls on odin)

- leading LB into our 1st Odin victory

- 1st NM kills on Odin -insertmobnamehere-

- killing ALOT of AV with Awsomeland (LB/BBQ/TK team up LS) on Odin with DRK zerging

6 Man Jormungand in 52 minutes. World record as far as I know! Felt amazing to return to this fight after a previous 1hr20min kill and achieve our goal of under 60 minutes. Felt great to watch our teamwork pay off. (FileFront Download!)

and the more obvious things...such as unlocking subjobs with my 20+ friends on the xbox beta server 3 years and 5 months ago, leading a salvage set to all boss and nms victories, climbing nyzul isle 6 times for a very united set of friends... so many things that wont make me forget ffxi. Even playing 14, i'm sure 11 will be my favourite game ever

Sorry for the long post but I just found some old pics on photobucket. Nostalgia overload!

I farmed like 6 pairs of Leaping Boots on my naked Lv37 THF in order to raise money for a Haub for my DRK, which cost 4 mil back in early 05. I was one pair of boots away from completing this goal when one day I tried to log in but saw that they were doing the update to make Leaping Boots r/ex. I was so pissed I almost punched a hole in my wall, but after the patch I decided to kill Lizzy 1 more time, and I'm fairly sure that I was the first person to get Bounding Boots worldwide. Ended up moving on to Hoo Mjuu to get the rest of the money for my Haub, which ironically I ended up selling in order to buy a 4.2mil Igqira Weskit when I decided to quit DRK at 63-where it remains to this day-for BLM (for the invites lol). I must say tho that I was a pretty pimp DRK back then.

Beating the Shadow Lord BCNM, it was so intense for me haha. Still remember everyone who helped me from my second LS Rapture-Zimra, Michaela, Volvos, and Sherinmir I miss you guys!.

Another big accomplishment for me was finally getting my Vilma's Ring off of Rose Garden, going 1/24. If you don't know RG is one of those NMs where the PH has to be left untouched, in RG's case 10hrs 15mins (which I found is now info on the wiki but I kept that my own secret while I was camping), so of course I had camps ruined by people aggroing, killing the PH accidentally, and people killing it just to be dicks. I camped it to use on my BRD which was 25ish when i started, but by the time I finally got the drop 2 months later my BRD was 65.

Excalibur.

This was the server's first NA relic. It involved the help from well over a hundred players both random and LS players. 14 months of a lot of hard work from a lot of players.

Its kinda odd thinking about it then. It really brought a lot of ppl that hated each other together and even now its kinda sad to see so many ppl that were involved now refusing to even talk to each other.

One thing about this game is that no matter how long you've played with another person, whenever drops or gil comes into the picture, there's always a chance they will flip a shit and betray you. So many stories of X trusting Z then having X's account stolen blah blah blah. There is very very little loyalty in a general sense. Shell hoppers and server hoppers etcetc. I always hated all of that shit. Those type of Excalibur-stories where everyone comes together are rare, so it's something I definitely cherish and appreciate when I see one. I came into FFXI with a RL friend introducing me to it, and I definitely came out with a fiance and a few more very good, loyal friends that I know I will hang out with for years to come :D.

Anyway, on the FFXI accomplishment topic, another thing I remember was getting Altruistic cape. Been after it since sea came out, all those LS sea farming runs never dropped one god damn cape in 2-3 years. Then I just got fed up and asked a few friends to help me outside LS event times. Got one to drop after like 23 reraises. It was a great feeling to have a few of the coolest people help me out. Ironically a bit later a few of them decided e-items were more important and joined botting LSes etc.

Killing Tiamat with an all bst/smn ls in about 30-40 min. I believe it was the first pet only kill on the server, but may be wrong there. Server is Fenrir, btw.

Getting sea. CoP was easily one of the hardest and most gratifying accomplishments when it first came out.

My pld is another one of my greatest accomplishments. I take alot of pride in its gear and how i play it.

Not sure what qualifies as a great achievement, I guess maybe for me the best way to answer it is what gave me the most satisfaction at the time. But having played for so long, it's hard to decide what would be the greatest for me, so I just picked one for each year.

2004 - Getting peacock charm after several months of Argus camping, which funded my gear on the subsequent climb Lv56-75.
2005 - Getting sea with my CoP static, and then clearing the Chapter 8 missions as they were released
2006 - Our first JoL, and being the first LS to clear all the Big Kills
2007 - Working with my friend, nivlakian, testing to correct and refine the understanding of the magic damage formula
2008 - LS's first Odin
2009 - Who knows

Bigkills was the shit, I don't know though I remember my LS being ranked first for a long time before it got ruined and taken down altogether. But I don't think we were the first to get them all, was there some other metric they sorted by besides the points/NM, because I know that once you had them all it was pretty much done.

Greatest Achievements were probably a bunch of server firsts like Vrtra, Tiamat, Jormungand, Dynamis Lord, Proto-Omega, Ultima, Cerberus and others. Used to have shit on lock so hard that other people couldn't even get practice in to compete against us. We ruled Aery uncontested for at least a year, it was awesome. Oh yeah, Cerberus was pretty funny too, when he first came out other shells couldn't stun for shit so we'd watch them get it to 20%, then wipe and just take it and fight on their dead bodies.

Greatest personal achievements? Nothing major really, I was the first Nashira Turban on my server and first AF+1 (Cleric's Duckbills +1)...first WHM with Tiamat title. Can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

Really wish I could track down my early videos of first kills like Tiamat and such. I should have had foresight and not deleted them.

Yeah, tied LSs were ordered based on who had signed up for Big Kills first lol. There was an occasional thread that would pop up about it.

one of my biggest prides in the game. nothing can please you more, when you have a blm say on vent "oh rich is here, now i can nuke all i want" or "rich. get hit so i can cure you" (they had HP+ macros, but me getting hit was enmity- so they were just being lazy lol, RIGHT ORO?!)

edit: oh and zven. he and me have had numerous discussions about nin tanking which ultimately led into good decision making on our part, even if my shadowring proc'd once a year! i hope you still tank zven.

For me, it'd have to be finishing CoP. The amazing story made me never want to quit giving up after any loss, such as during the Airship fight. The satisfaction of finishing a beautiful chapter was what did it or me. Oh the good times.

you know. i never found the airship hard. and i did it before it was nerfed like 10x. it was back when evasion wasnt as "lol" as it is now, but with 2 nins, i found it hax.

my all time hardest CoP mission was Diablos (yeah...laugh all you want. he was the biggest asshole to me lol )

after i beat him, i wanted to kiss an ugly fat chick and river dance in the middle of the ghetto in front of a bunch of black ppl. so much adrenaline!
