SPR and BHD are definitely not cult films. Though I guess quite a few mentioned have not been cult films anyway.

I really like all the movies you mentioned though. Also for war movies Platoon.

Why isnt Breakfast Club or Sixteen candles not on these lists? Pretty in Pink is ok, but not as good as the other two.

Personally I found the book to be much better. BR is a great movie though, worth importing. but the sequel was terrible and follows the movies storyline..kinda.

May get a load of shit for these but I'm a fan of fun westerns:

    Young Guns 1 + 2 ( peyote scene was classic )
    Unforgiven
Maverick ( Mel Gibson one )
    3:10 to Yuma

Kinda sketchy on the definition of 'cult' as well. Nobody's mentioned Clerks yet?

    Clerks
    UHF
    Very Bad Things

I wasn't sure what a cult film was defined as here as it slowly turned to posting just generally good movies.

A cult movie is ideally a movie that has attained fame via a method not generally associated with the box office. One that has failed during it's opening release in theaters, or was never in theaters at all.

Damn.. forgot about Johnny Mnenomic. I thought I was the only person who actually liked that movie.

Then again I also like Hackers, as terrible as it is.

Gonna throw Ong Bak into the mix if you like Martials arts films

There's Warrior King and Chocolate out there too, but they don't really match the first watching of Ong Bak.

Someone had a segment of Ong Bak as their avatar, can't for the life of me remember who though.

    Ong-bak (2003)

    Tom yum goong (2005)

    Chocolate (2008)

Also, To Wong Fu, Thanks for everything! Julie Newmar if you've never seen Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes or John Leguizamo outside of Ghost, Blade or Spawn in complete drag queen attire.

And you might want to toss in its big sister The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert if you've never seen Hugo Weaving outside of the Matrix (Lord of the Rings, Agent Smith from the Matrix, and V for Vendetta) who's also... in... drag...

I think Sunshine may fit this label better than any other film on this list. Maybe Lebowski, too, because people just didn't understand it when it was released.

    But seriously, go watch Sunshine.

I also saw Streets of Fire for the first time in about twenty years the other day, and remembered how cool and weird and campy it was. Rick Moranis, Diane Lane, Willem Dafoe and Bill Paxton. Cheesy for sure, but definitely cool.

    Streets of Fire (1984)
