Can I get some advice on a Mono Blue Mill deck? I've never really played blue before so I have no idea where to start save for stuff like Mana Leak and Jace Belerans. I have some stuff that looks good to me but I'd like to what you guys think is a good Mono Blue Mill before I start making it. Be nice to know if I was right lol
Oh and I changed my Black infect to U/B infect control and I'm really liking it. I found my B/G too slow and I kept losing so much. I loved my Putrfex/Mimic vat combo that was just too damn slow. Here it is, I pretty proud of it personally but advice is always welcome.
Creatures:
2 Skithiryx, The Blight Dragon
4 Plague Stinger
4 Phyrexian Crusader
Spells:
2 Disfugure
2 Doom Blade
2 Go for the Throat
4 Preordain
3 Disperse(Only till I get into the Roil. I've been to 3 card shops in my city and haven't found a single fucking one)
2 Contagion Clasp
2 Adventuring Gear(These are just placeholders for Necropedes. Same issue as with the Into the Roil. I seem to have last all of mine)
4 Mana Leak
2 Black Sun's Zenith
Planeswalkers:
2 Jace Beleran
Land:
4 Inkmoth Nexus
3 Darkslick Shores(Someone stole my 4th one after I traded a Venser planswalker for all 4)
3 Drowned Catacombs(working on 4)
2 Marsh Flats(Mostly just a place holder till I get another fucking Darkslick and 1 more Catacombs)
4 Teremorphic Expanse
6 Swamps
4 Islands
I'm also thinking of adding a 3rd Black Sun's in there. I've played it against my friends U/B infect control with Tez and won so I really am happy with it but like I said, advice is always welcome.
For the mill deck, you will want to play Archive Trap + Haunting Echoes, which is black. Archive trap is retarded good right now.
Myrrh for U/B infect/control I would ditch the plague stingers and replace them with a couple of plague myrs for some mana ramp, the necropedes are ok but are mostly for blockers. I would also ditch Disperse and Disfigure and run Duress and Inquisition of Kozilek to disrupt early game drops. Also you have 26 lands you might be able to drop that down to 24 and give yourself 2 more slots for other important cards. I would also think about running 3 and 3 of Go For the Throat and Doom Blade, really depends on what you are playing against. You might think about picking up 2 Ratchet Bombs too.
For a mill deck I agree with Weltall, Archive Trap, Haunting Echoes, Memorcide, and Sadistic Sacrament are all very good. I don't think straight mill is a great strategy these days I think it is better to run a lot of mill to disrupt your opponents strategy and get rid of their key cards and then drop down a game winner when they have nothing left to defend themselves.
Ya, I picked up 4 of the traps right off the bat. I'll edit this in a sec once I sort out what I have so far with my Blue Mill.
4 Hadron Crab
2 Jace Beleran(Working on 4)
4 Jace's Erasure
4 Mana Leak
4 Perordain
3 Blue Sun Zenith
4 Into the Roil
4 Archive Trap
4 Tome Scour
I have various other cards but those look the strongest to me at this point in time. I really want to get this deck made by Sat cause there is some regionals going on here and I'd love use this Mill deck over my B/U infect. i love the infect but I think I'd get creamed if I used it.
Oh and Ya, I have been trying to get those Kox cards in my B/u but they're 8 bucks a pop at stores here and I can't find a single person willing to trade them.
Kox cards?
Erm, Kozilek*. Sorry, wrote that after not sleeping for 3 days.
I bought my IoK cards online for $2 each last week but holy crap I didn't notice they doubled in price. You can certainly get them on trollandtoad.com or starcitygames.com for around $4 or $5 right now instead of $8.
Ya, apparently everyone and their fucking mother decided to play them. I don't mind waiting on those as I'm focusing on my Mill deck first. Still trying to figure out what else to put it in. I'm debating on 2-3 Consecrated Sphinx.
On your list above I wouldn't bother with Jace's Erasure unless you are running some serious card draw. Otherwise it isn't going to do much. Also with hedron crab you are going to want to run a ton of fetch lands to increase your land drops. And also look at running screeching silclaw. And you might be able to run a couple Traumatize too. I wouldn't bother with hedron crab if you aren't running fetch lands though.
Mill is a very tough strategy and unless you run cards to exile cards before they get to the graveyard (black leyline) you will be easily countered with any of the legendary eldrazi or other cards that shuffle your graveyard into your library. Just wanted to mention that so you could keep it in mind.
Anyone else here play commander? My friends and I just started getting into playing it and it is so much fun. Very different and really interesting to build decks for. 99 card singleton decks are strange indeed.
My friends play EDH and I plan on getting into it once MTG releases the EDH decks. And Ya, I know about fetch land. I'm working on getting all those.
After a serious talk with my friend I've decided I'll just spruce up and make my infect deck awesome and save the Mill deck for a side project. I need more time to make it and practice.
I think that is a good plan. The infect deck you might be able to get to a level where it is good enough for FNM, the mill deck I don't think you will get to be competitive at FNM because it is such an easy to counter strategy and it is very slow.
Though if you don't care about FNM then mill can be really fun for you and really annoying for your friends.
Oh ya, I know. That's the whole reason I am making it. Mainly to piss off my friends with a bitching troll deck. I like alternative ways to kill to people. Life hitting 0 is just so boring unless it's some sort of epic like Myr incubator deck or something cool.
If you really want to piss off your friends build a classic vintage/legacy mono-blue control deck. You might not win but the game will be really long and you will just keep either stealing their creatures or countering them. Either that or the other best troll deck is a red/black vintage/legacy land destruction deck. Those are the two biggest troll decks ever.
And they are expensive as hell, lol.
Yeah sometimes I forget this fact since I have a ton of old cards lying around. There are some stupid cards that are stupid expensive today when they were really cheap cards before. Like force of will, I remember back in the day alliances was a terrible expansion set and no one wanted it and force of will is an uncommon so it wasn't hard to get at all. Now it is going for $90 just crazy.
Yeah, I had about 30-40 Forces in my commons box back in the day, and god knows how many Wasteland (probably 100+). So angry -.-
I loved force of will back in the day and I love it today but I certainly don't think it is worth that much. The original dual lands on the other hand are amazing although equally overpriced currently. Since I moved around and went to college about half my old revised, dark, legends, antiquities, and arabian nights cards have all gone missing sadly so I only have a small handful of the dual lands left. I think they got lost sometime when my parents got a divorce right after I graduated from highschool.
Makes me sad thinking about how many cards are lost in an abyss somewhere and how valuable they were.
