this is classic welt in action, love it.

for the record, as usual, there is some merit to what welt is saying, but it's not an absolute. there are definitely some poor motherfuckers out there with both the skill and the knowledge necessary to drop your ass. and not all players are collectors, either. however, the guy with the black-bordered mishra's is more likely than the guy with the white border to be a good player. I'd bet on it... not sure I'd bet winning the round on it, though.

I am talking chance and %'s. @Yuri - You would win the bet based on % that the player would be better.

If your opponent in a 100+ player tournament leads with a white-bordered island, then on %'s, he will be a bad player. I am saying that over 50% of the time this will be true. You can argue against it, but you will be wrong. Hint: The % is more like 88-95% true.

I didn't say base your entire gameplay around his land, just take to it into account.

Not sure who the best player here is, but I've had a DCI rating of over 2000 for most* of my Magic career. Yeah, yeah, it doesn't mean as much anymore, but back in the day when Finkel had the highest rating of 2023-2050, it was a big deal. If anyone with a higher overall ranking and better tips, please share. There are no pros who use white-bordered basics or clear sleeves, unless it was back in the days where feature matches were required to be in clear sleeves provided by the judges, but I doubt hardly anyone here has been in that position besides me.

I'm probably currently at 195x - 198x because I split at FNM every week to let friends get into top 8 and just go trade, esp. since I've had a collection stolen.

To tell the truth though, if it's a pimped out deck and the basics are white bordered, then they are the most expensive part of the deck.

When your "tip" is to play around whether a card is in a players hand based on the border of their land then I think anyone could give better.

My playstyle has worked for me and my local store is Next Level Games, likely a top 5 store in the nation in terms of competition, ownership, etc. being owned by Donnie Noland.

Unless he's taking about Summer, then I'm confused as well.

My high point for Standard was 1792 at Regionals 2003. It would likely be better if I didn't play fun decks most of the time (I played Battle of Wits when it was originally in standard).

My current Eternal rating is 1779 but should go up a few points once results from this past week are entered. I'm torn on this rating though because my results from last year when I dominated with Survival for a month and a half never got entered. I really don't know how people can keep a 2000+ rating and still play FNMs when losing 1 match pretty much means you're losing points overall. I'm already at the point where going 3-1 only nets me 2 points and I'm still far from 2k.

Well, while checking my Standard high point I found out one of the Legacy tournaments got applied to that so I submitted an appeal which should hopefully correct it and move my rating up some.

I've never gone to a big tourney, so my rating isn't that great. We only have 8ks and 16ks around here. Although my rating is higher than most local players here so my rating fluctuates kind of a lot. At an 8k (FNM) I went 4-2-1. The draw was in top2 for a split, and I gained 2 points. At a 16k I went 5-1 and gained 14 points. You guys are going by total rating right?

I'm sitting at 1861 right now, after being in the 2k range for a year. Sucks I wasn't able to go to my local GP due to work screwing my schedule that weekend, my limited ranking tanked lately due to a bad PTQ season.

I never cared for blue much, but the idea of what kind of solid creatures it can now amass for cheap thanks to Lord of the Unreal gets me excited. I'm not sure where to start to keep him from being the weakest link in the deck though. I guess some shroud/hexproof action just for him.

Also: What would be the cheapest and most simple way for white/black to put a 6-drop creature on the battlefield and then in the graveyard? Like a faux "evoke" or Ball Lightning/token copy style thing, not just a discard.

I want a way to fit Personal Incarnation into a Sanguine Bond deck. I love the possibility of pumping my life up so that I can lose half of it and then Tainted Sigil it back for damage... Boon Reflection it to deal my life total in damage. Fun combos are fun.

So I just print this thingy out from the promo code and go pickup this free card or whatever for buying Magic 2012, are these cards worth anything? I dont have the time to invest in playing the card game itself. I used to drop a ton of cash and shit would sit there years ago.

Not sure about how much the promo version is worth but grave titan is worth about $10. Frost Titan is worth about $6 and Inferno Titan is worth about $10.

I am sad my co-worker who used to do magic card art for WotC is moving away and isn't going to work at the same place with me anymore. He is an amazing artist and super nice. I am happy he is moving to a better job but sad because it was awesome to be able to talk to him about when he did art for magic the gathering and hear all about the process and stuff. Let me tell you the original art for cards is so amazing and has so much more detail than the cards.

When he was working for magic all the cards had to be based on original paintings they could not do them digitally, now they are mostly done digitally. Most the magic cards from older sets were acrylic or oil paintings.

I almost bought a number of the original pieces back in the Revised days... they were all rather inexpensive for original paintings and Wizards' customer service was amazingly personable. I got a printout sent to me of every available original piece or print, prices, and a bunch of details about rulings I asked. Back when things were a little more foggy than they are now.

I would love some classic Amy Weber pieces like Armageddon Clock/Ornithopter/Time Walk/Time Elemental/Knowledge Vault/Scryb Sprites.
