Pre release was awesome. I pulled some money cards and ended up 5-0. Took home 21 packs. Zendikar is a really fun set to draft too. I got lucky with some bombs in my sealed pool but honestly ... Scute Mob is a damn house in limited.

I have a draft tomorrow which i love but it seems to me this set may be a difficult draft compared to M10
Draft removal and bombs. Pretty straightforward lol. Arrow Volley trap is really good. The 2/3 flier death touch lifelink is a huge bomb. That one black enchantment that costs 1 and gets 2 creatures is really good too.
ran a B/R Vampire Blighting Deck tonite and FNM and absolutely crushed. Deck is phenominal. not much got in the way, i either burned through it, or just flew overhead and crushed them with Nocturnus. ran stuff like Quest for the Gravelord in the SB, works wonders at keeping people away from a DoJ Reset Button

Ouch >_<
So far of the old cards someone pulled a Moat and one of the old Dual Lands i forgot which though
working on a really neat planeswalker deck powered by lotus cobras and khalni heart expidition and fetch lands. can generate mad mana and the cobras and BoP keep the lightning bolts off of me till i can get a baneslayer or a PW out. Bloodghasts to recover nicely from DoJ is fun too..
Hi everyone!
I'm a long... long time player and very old school.
I've been playing since the release in '92.
The game lost it's competitive fun after I placed 10th in world's, playing with people like Brian Weisman from my hometown.
Today however, I still play for fun and never enter tournements in San Diego.
I love multiplayer and enjoy seeing the look on people's face when I trounce them with a 52/14 Beta Birds of Paradise with trample. It never gets old!
Or, the look of respect when I play with old school dragons, like Nicol Bolas (not the Planeswalker) and attack with them.
Once in a while, I get some relatively new hotshot that wants to play his "undefeated deck" where he placed and won a lot of money. For him, I have a couple of special decks. Like, my Land Deck. 60 diffferent types of land that I play, at one land per turn. I watch him play 10-15 cards per turn, pulling all kinds of killer combos and killing me in 5 turns. He's feeling extremely full of himself, getting all kinds of congratulations, when he finds out my deck had nothing but land.
When he asks, "Why?"
I reply, "You looked like you needed an ego boost, and I had fun playing against you."
While he's confused, I pick up my stuff and play someone else.
Because I play for fun nowadays, and when I'm not having fun, why should I play?
What kind of killer deck takes 5 fucking turn to kill an all land deck?
Even by standard format, that's practically goldfishing.
Anyway, glad casual is working out for you, but I can't help but thinking you're just trolling, considering magic didn't come out until 1993.
Wonderful thought and you are right, it did come out in a convention in early 1993.
Which I was at, but it was 16 years ago. So, I was a bit off.
The cards weren't in full print and I was using the test set.
This was also when the card Time Walk, which costs 1 blue and 1 colorless, said, "Target Player loses next turn".
When someone first played this, he was like, "Wow, so when play Time Walk the other player loses next turn?"
The creator said, "Yep, which gives you 2 turns!"
The same guy responded, "Oh... I thought I would win the game, because he lost next turn and my turn is over."
I still find that amusing.
Sorry if you toss the term "troll" out without thinking.
My story is true and not only to I have no reason to lie, but the story doesn't even create any type of argument or controvery... so the term "troll" is misused.
Look up Brian Weissman. He was an old friend of mine at the time he created "The Deck". We both were born and raised in the same hometown. Although, he did whoop my butt several times while I was starting out learning. When he eventually created "The Deck", I couldn't touch him!! LOL
Also, the original "The Deck" didn't have Tormond's Crypt, Amnesia. It did, however, have Mind Twist and 1 less Serra Angel. Finally, the last thing to know is that when Ice Age came out, he revamped The Deck in order to combat Jester's Cap (aka Jester's Crap to us).
Like I said, no reason to make any of this up, but if it helps prove my validity, then feel free to ask more.![]()
It was just a thought, sorry that my tone may have been volatile since I generally hate anyone who toss around the term "old school" like it places them in some higher plane of existence and brag about their vintage cards, along with how they hate the new set/cards etc.
I honestly don't care if you're the real deal, or Jon Finkel for that matter, I just thought of that inconsistency with that 1992 statement, but since you go out of your way to clear that up, there really is no reason for me to doubt you.
Oh, I completely agree. I've seen people buy all the old cards and act very haughty. It's kind of sad, really. I've had some very fond memories over the years playing the game, because I treat it as a game.
Some of the new sets seem, beyond broken. It seems to me the devs want to bring the "old school" power, with a "new school" taste. I'm sure they were thinking it would give the newer players an edge against older players, like myself. In the end, if you create cards similar to the old ones, you only end up devaluing the old cards.
I can't tell you how many hours of trading and opening packs to get all 4 Arabian Nights, City of Brass... only to see it reprinted and trounced on. That's my only issue. The can remake the card into a Reflecting Pool, or any other idea... but, don't reprint it! D:
Do you have a favorite card or set? :D
Personally loved invasion block since that was the first really heavy multicolor block, but I love multicolor themed sets in general. Ravnica and the recent Alara block was also pretty interesting.
If there was anything I would hate from the recent sets, that would be Mythic rare system since I thought it just makes the price on secondary market even more retarded than it already was.
Every set, I go look at the spoiler and thought that a fuckton of the rares are the most broken shit ever. But really, that's just one of those things that seem so in the first glance, considering short of the entire Golgari dredging arsenal from Ravnica, there really isn't much new cards from the same set that really shakes the eternal format.
The biggest pain in my ass of all time was Mind Twist. I hated that card.
Brian Weissman used to hang out with this guy, Chris Pantageous (sp?), and the guy used Mind Twist all the time. Pissed me off to no end. Hate the card to this day! lol
I went on a small crusade against it, had close to 500 signatures from various tournaments to get it banned. I would trade for Mind Twist, only to rip them up! XD
In the end, the card did get banned, and people had many, many other methods to rip cards from your hand... but, none as leathal as Mind Twist. D:
My favorite card of all time, and a staple in every deck I have, is Library of Alexandria.
To me, that is a clear game winner on the first turn!
When I first made my Druid Deck, I would love to have a Ley Druid or 2, with instill energy and use Library of Alexandria 4 times per turn.
You should see the looks on people's face. It was priceless!
Best quote from an opponent:
"OMG, you took a $1 uncommon, and turned a card like Library of Alexandria into crack!"
lol
Was looking for some advice or opinions for this deck. I know it can be streamlined, but I have a limited number of cards to work with at the moment, until I can go to the shop Friday D=.

This is only my opinion, and I've been out of the game for a while.
So, my view might be a bit scewed... lol
Approximately 75% of your damage in this deck is from the Megrims.
Which is a lot, considering the only way you have to protect the Megrims is drawing hand depletion. Howling Mines are a double edged sword in this case. You are giving your opponent cards that he can play on his turn, before you draw and deplete those cards from his hand.
You have other ways to draw in your deck, I'm not sure if the Howling Mines are that important. Maybe take them both out and put in either a stable draw for you (i.e. Jayemdae Tomb, Jalum Tomb, idc...) or a permanent hand depletion (i.e. Disrupting Scepter).
That being said, I would take out the 2 Vedalken Ghouls and put in 1 more Death Baron. The Ved Ghouls seem a bit out of sync. They are part of the theme, but that Death Baron would have a greater impact than the Ghouls for the price.
If I'm wrong, no biggie, but maybe this old player sparked some helpful thoughts! :D
I looked up the Tome and Scepter cards, none of them are tournament legal =/.
I ran this deck a few nights ago against my brother, and it performed better than I had expected. The cards listed are cards I have on hand, though I'm always looking to trade or purchase more useful cards.
Thanks for your advice though ^^.
Tome/Scepter... don't be so literal! lol
The best thing about Magic, is there is always a different way to do things.
All I am saying is to find some self drawing permanents and toss the Howling Mines.
I understand it's all you have now, but make it a goal to find something else.
That way, your advantage isn't your opponent's advantage.![]()
