Ponder and Preordain banned that seems a bit harsh I know theres crazy amounts of digging in modern but don't think they both had to go. Totally not surprised by by Cloudpost and Blazing shoal bans but wasn't expecting green sun zenith. Also Lol @ Mental misstep that card should of never been printed.

no ponder, no preordain, no ancestral visions, no jace...no good blue draw spells that are worth playing in modern. I guess serum visions is going to see play as the main blue cantrip? doesn't seem that fair in an environment where control isn't even viable yet. they should have included invasion, odyssey, and onslaught in the modern format.

glad misstep is banned in legacy and modern, makes my rdw list a little better in that aspect.

explanation for the list found here

For someone who is looking to get back into it after several (many) years of being out, is drafting the best way to get back into the game? I was looking at FNMs in my area and they're running a M12 booster draft tomorrow so I was thinking of stopping by, but I'm kind of nervous to be holding up the line since I know I'll be reading every single card in every pack I get.

Drafting's always a good way to get back into the flow of things. Don't worry too much about having to read through the cards, especially with M12 since many of the cards are reprinted. Plus there's way to practice drafting & get to know the cards before hand online:

    Tapped Out Multiuser Draft Simulator
    Draft Simulator @ La Bestiaire
TCGPlayer Draft Simulator (max 3 uses per day w/o subscription)

Keep in mind that the Innistrad Prerelease is this weekend as well, so you'll get the chance to do sealed deck and draft with the newest expansion. Check out the store/event locator on Wizards' website to find a prerelease in your area.

Well, I learned the game through FNM and other random drafts at pre-releases. I won't say I'm good or anything, but you learn a lot and fast, especially if you go somewhere where they mix the boosters used between the current set (like mirrodin atm for example) and the core set (2k12).

Though, where I learned the most was when I did pre-release and PTQ 2HG. Having someone with experience thinking with you is seriously exciting.

How did everyone's pre-release go? Went 4-0 again, netting 10 packs, some cool leather deck box thing, and a killing in trades. If anyone wants to dump fetch lands and other rotating things lemme know!

Went to pre-release did pretty poorly unfortunately. Went Red/Black cuz I cracked a bloodgift demon but ended up losing pretty bad and half way thru I switched black out for white and did 1000 times better but was to late by then. For Humans being the victims white is remarkably strong. Didn't get anything special really but was able to trade for 3 Snapcaster mages at 20 a piece trading mostly a stack of dollar rares so it seemed like a win to me.

My first sealed deck was insane - had almost every white removal spell, Mentor and a bunch of dudes to activate & complement him, plus good equips & a Geistcatcher Rig. After that I could go red for burn spells and some weak flipdudes, or green for a buttload of good flip-wolves including a Mayor of Avabruck, plus 2 Moonmist & a Full Moon Rise. So I split the diff - went R/W for my first two matches and G/W for the second two. Ended up going 3-1 so I was pretty damn happy.

Having seen the cards in action, I'm really impressed with the set's equipment. Trepanation Blade can be a game finisher if you get the right amount of mill. Sure your opponent can chump it, but repeated no-cost mills in limited can finish your opponent fast. Green seems to have the best creatures, while white's removal spells are tops. Red seems to have gotten the shaft in this set, with a lack of quality burn despite having good fast flip-dudes.

As far as money goes, I pulled two Snapcasters, the R/U land and an Army of The Damned, which I got signed along w/ the promo card by Ryan Pancoast. Woo!

This was my second draft, haha. I lucked out and pulled a Garruk and a Liliana. I won 2 out of the 5 games. Every fucking time id pull garruk out and go to flip him. PEW PEW PEW. that little 1 damage burn card kept picking him off from out of nowhere before I could even use his other side! > Creepy dolls slow the game down so much, and fuck that little flash viper with death touch. I ended up trading my liliana for a 14-booster raincheck and the mythic rare vampire from the guy who won the tournament the day before.

My friends and I are doing a little tournament of our own this weekend. About 6 of us are getting a hotel room, two boxes, and doing a draft with the new set. I haven't really looked over the spoiler list yet, but are there any colors I should be leaning towards?

Humans are pretty good, and Red/White was a little underestimated.

Red/Green werewolves and Red/Black vampires I found both underwhelming.

I like White/Black zombie & spirit token action, but it feels a little too slow against the inevitable Humans without bringing in red or blue for control.

Lastly, I really like the idea of Green/Blue zombies with self-milling/graveyard-digging, but I feel that mechanic can be a little too specialized for a draft...?

However, I'm no expert by any means.

Blue in Innistrad is OP as hell, lol.

Isn't that entirely relying on getting blue Rares/Mythics? Blue Common/Uncommons alone don't seem to be a whole lot more than instants for splashing in.

Sorry, didn't mean for draft in particular, but constructed play.

That was my concern. I knew blue was going to be OP, but I'm mostly concerned with the commons and uncommons I'd likely get in a draft. I'm leaning towards white now.

Yeah, if I had to pick something for constructed, purely for winning, it would probably be blue self-milling/zombies with a splash of green, but that deck feels like it would be almost half rares.

If I were to pick something for casual/constructed/draft, mostly for fun, it would probably be white/black humans/spirits.

I gets the feeling Black Sun Zenith is going to be dominant in standard for the first couple of weeks, lol.

    Or likely Day of Judgement.
