Hexblade gonna be tried so Zenith/Day will be good. Theres more artifact hate now especially with ancient grudge and tempered steel being a common deck you may need more swords and/or counters to protect them.
Going off the few tournament listings I've seen online RDW is apparently wreaking face pretty bad but thats typically a deck that only does exceptionally well when no ones expecting it so idk ill have to look into it more. I'm told that new red one drop vampire is pretty good and negates alot of timely reinforcements. I wanna try U/G selfmill boneyard deck running splinterfrights and boneyard wurm but black spell bomb hurts its it a bit and can be any sideboard, U/R counterburn looks decent with tons of flashback and burning vengeance. States isnt that far away so I need to actually decide on a deck or just fall back on birthing pod.

No mono red deck can beat that Mythic Tree, and that card is a really easy splash esp with dual lands.

That card will see ton of main deck and sideboard play if anyone is dumb enough to play red.

Seriously, what does mono red do? lol. Black/red would be better, but if you don't have spot removal the very turn it comes out then you still lost that game, period.

With Snapcaster Mage in the mix and Mental Misstep banned, is EoT Hightide viable again?

Viable for Spring Tide, unsure how much so for Solidarity. Either goes off turn 3-5 and fairly fizzle-proof.

For drafting, is it customary for people to keep the cards that they draft including the money cards? I'm just asking because when I last drafted, the game store I was at took all the rares/foils and that was the prize for first place but it wasn't DCI sanctioned or anything.

Mental Misstep being banned definitely makes hightide viable in legacy again. Snapcaster Mage is nice but I don't see it being necessary in hightide imo.

    @Xerlic
Yes, you should keep all the cards that you select from the draft unless your group has their own rules I suppose. My store does $15 drafts where each person gets 3 packs and 1.5 packs is added to the prize pool per person. The prize pool is then split between the top 4 people.

P.S. No reason not to play sanctioned now with the new Planeswalker point system.

Most stores let you keep what you draft. Personally I avoid stores where drafted cards are pooled and split since they typically discourage new/less experienced players from playing and sometimes have assholes there trying to prey on newer people. Besides nothing stings more then cracking something awesome and not walking away with it if you happened to lose a round.

Ya, I'd never draft at a store that did that. That's extremely gay.

Cool, thanks. I'm wasn't sure what the norm is because I haven't played in so long. The last time I drafted was during Urza's and Masques block.

After looking at prices of most singles online and ebay, buying packs seems to be mostly a money losing activity especially now with mythic rares. Drafting seems like a good way to get the rush of cracking packs without totally flushing money down the toilet.

Drafting is the way to go if your gonna crack packs you may as well play with them and maybe earn some more packs. You can always just first pick your rare so your not really losing out with small exception of when theres an awesome foil/flip card also in the pack.

I usually buy a box or two when a set it released and pick up whatever I can at the prerelease and launch party. I've managed to pick up 3 Snapcaster Mage but no Liliana; really hoping I don't have to drop $120+ on a playset.

Anyway, anyone decided what they are playing for FNM this Friday? I can't make it to the SCG Indy this weekend so putting all my excitement into FNM lol! UB seems tempting but I don't think it's worth it until I get some Lilianas. Probably just going to tweak UW control add more inkmoth, add a couple geist, a few snapcaster and see how it goes.

For Fnm and standard I'm still torn on what to play and I need to decide soon states are coming up soon. U/B looks good but I'm having same problem getting Lillianas. I have a Naya pod deck and fragments of a puresteel deck I can fix up but those don't seem really exciting to me atm. W/G tokens looks too cute to work out in the long run not to mention ratchet bombs are good for them and flip cards( pro tip transformed cards have 0cmc) U/G selfmill looks fun with boneyard and splinterfright but black spellbomb hates on it pretty hard but the deck might be able to feed graveyard fast enough to recover from it. Toying with the idea of a G/U aggro control deck using counters, Mayor of Avabruck, Snapcaster, Thrun with a few swords for good measure.

If I can't pick up Lilianas I'm probably gonna go with some kind of U/W X-Blade build, or maybe Venser control? I really wanna play U/B control tho since it's gonna be so powerful out of the gate.

I wasn't talking about regular high tide, I'm talking about all instant high tide that goes off at the very last possible second.

hmm having played high tide, I can see pros and cons for snapcaster... it won't really be useful until you go off (duh), but the sheer versatility would be nice. barring any shenanigans from my opponent, high tide's biggest problem is drawing the wrong cards, so having a stand-in for draw OR another high tide would be helpful, I think? not sure but it seems worth looking at.

Snapcaster is ridiculous for any deck running blue. There really isn't a reason for not running it
