Came in third in the booster draft last night. My first pack opened to an Army of the Damned, knew automatically I was going black :D Threw in some blue for removal and a bit of flying as well.

Lost my first two games to bad mana screws, I kept getting 3 mana in hand and then I just couldn't draw any. Others went swimmingly though. Rotting Fensnake with Cobbled Wings is a nasty little bugger.

Got first place last night with my home brew blue/white voltron pure steel deck. Just built it first time playing it. Went really well. Blue/black control was the only deck I lost to that was a rough matchup. Time to build a new deck.

I went 3-1 at my FNM running the Junk pod deck that I've been using for the past month. Won 5 packs and got all crap except for an Isolated Chapel.

I'm getting kind of bored with pod and thinking of brewing an infect deck since I already have a couple Phyrexian Crusaders and one Skithiryx.

Tezz/infect is really fun to play. That is what I played last time I went to FNM and it got me to top 8 I think I ended up at 5th or 6th place. I am trying to build a Black/blue grand architect deck now. We will see how it goes.

What's the general opinion of sealed deck compared to draft? Do they have kind of the same feel or is sealed more like constructed?

Sealed is more luck based, draft is more skillful imo. Both are fun, neither is like constructed.

So, Comic Con here had a 5k event and I dropped out after match 3 because some prick in match two hit me with such a horrible attitude that I couldn't focus on the rest of my matches. The guy was outright fucking rude. Round 1, he was a 6 poison counters, completely tapped out and I had my Phyrexian Crusader with a Sword of Feast and Famine, I go to attack and he animates an Inkmoth(Still not sure how but w/e). Sure, that's fine but when he did it he said "I block with inkmoth you fucking loser, fail at life some more" and it wasn't said in any kind of friendly tone. That just killed the tourney for me.

After that I joined a Draft, I managed to get first. When I joined I was told it was for a box but when I won, I found out it was only for 5 packs. That kind of sucked.

Not sure how experienced you are with the code of conduct part of the rulebook, but when you run into someone who's rude like that OR if you have think your opponent is manipulating the game state (i.e. activating Inkmoth without paying for it) you should call for a judge IMMEDIATELY. Chances are he'd at least have gotten a game loss for misrepresentation and at best a match loss & DQ for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Edit: Get the MTG Judge & Oracle apps if you have a smartphone & read through them. I just double checked - the Inkmoth thing is worth at least a warning & at most a game loss (Game Rule Violation). Same goes for Unsporting Conduct - Minor. The fact that it was a 5K tournament would make the judges a little more strict.

@Norellicus: I find sealed to be a much less fun format than draft, but there are people who really enjoy it. They're really only similar in the fact that your resources for building decks are a lot more limited than what you'll see in constructed. I find drafting more fun because building your deck and trying to read the people in your pod is just as fun as playing the actual games, imo. It takes just as much skill to build the deck as it takes to use the deck. In the constructed environment, you have a lot more time to prepare. You go in with a knowledge your own deck and of what types of decks that you'll end up facing so you can prepare a gameplan on how to deal with them.

@Myyrh: Sorry that you had a sour experience, but you shouldn't have let that guy get to you. If he was tapped out, how did he block your crusader with the nexus? With a $40 entry fee and that much prize money at stake, I would have insisted that he take the loss and not let him get away with an illegal play. If he's trying to intimidate you, call a judge over.

Good news on that prick is that he didn't even make top 36 so it's all good.

Edit: And one of my friends is a judge, I informed him of such right after the matches.

I'm currently in talks with someone to buy a collection for $150. It's a lot of junk, but he has some noteables: 3 Dark Confidants, 2 Temple Gardens, 2 Sacred Foundries, 1 Watery Grave, 1 Blood Crypt and 1 Doubling Season. Tacking on an extra $20 for gas/tolls to go pick it up, do you guys think it's worth it? This is from an investment point of view and I'm speculating that Modern staples will spike with the upcoming PT season. I don't play anything other than Standard or Draft, so I'd get no immediate use out of these cards.

Yea, I obviously lost out on that deal since I didn't jump when I had the guy's attention. He found another buyer in the one day that I took to think about it. Ah well.

I cracked a Snapcaster and a Garruk this week though, so that kind of makes up for it.

I'm looking to get into Legacy, but I want to do it via trading and not dumping a ton of money into fast cards. Tonight I ended up trading a Rishadan Port, Alpha Ice Storm and Antiquities Strip mine (non-tower) for 2 Flooded Strands. Would you guys say the trade was fair? We both valued the Ice Storm lower than what is posted on magiccards.info since it's really only a collector's card, but I'm kind of wondering if I should have held onto it.

There's been a lot of discussion on this lately in the tournament players' community, to the point where several high-profile pros have launched an online campaign to roll back the changes that DCI has made to the tournament structure.

I didn't realize it but this all started about 3-4 years ago when cutbacks at Hasbro forced the DCI to stop running State & Provincials. Since then those tournament have been spun off to be run by regional tournament organizers or convention operators who don't always focus on the best interests of the game or the players.
