Ah, I see. I forgot Brainstorm draws cards differently from Ponder's "look at 3 cards". (Been awhile for me playing legacy - the last time I played Brainstorm was in standard in Replinish LOL).

Good question. I am not going to attempt to answer because I don't know o.o

That is a really good question my assumption is that brainstorm makes you draw three cards, each card draw is a separate instance, you could interrupt the drawing of cards from brainstorm to cast a miracle card then you would continue with the instructions from brainstorm as normal after that, drawing two more cards and then putting two from your hand back on your library. We will have to wait and see when the official rules are updated and we can know for sure how it would interact with brainstorm. But what I said in my first post is still the default for how card drawing works.

I mean, you'd essentially have to cast an instant in the middle of another instant's cast, which I don't think the stack does.

I mean, this won't be a common issue for sure. Only cards that have you draw multiple cards and then have a second function afterwards.

Relevant rules discussion on the matter which is ALL SPECULATION until wizards releases the official rules for this mechanic. Hank remember this mechanic was just announced and there are officially no rules for it yet so you are asking for information that is impossible to know. We can speculate all we want about how it will work but we will only know once the rules are officially added for this mechanic. My assumption again though is that if you want to cast something for its miracle cost it must be at the INSTANT you draw it and if you put it in your hand or it becomes indistinguishable from other cards in any way then you lost your chance.

draw 1 with Brainstorm. Play the miracle. Look at your other 2 cards and put them back in any order

I understand. I just wasn't sure if it was speculation or if there was a rule I wasn't aware of.

As you draw an instant or sorcery with miracle, if it's the first card you've drawn this turn, you can immediately reveal it. When you do so, you may cast it for its miracle cost. It doesn't matter whether it's an instant or sorcery; if you choose to cast it, you do so right away, even if it's at a time (such as your draw step) when you couldn't normally cast it. You're not required to reveal a miracle card, even if you could pay for it. You can always choose to just draw it as normal.
This is a quote from Wizards website on how the miracle mechanic works and reinforces what I posted above on how I thought it should work with brainstorm. Miracle interrupts everything on the stack and allows you to cast the card regardless of whether or not you normally would be able to. finalwolf not to nitpick but it would be draw 1 with brainstorm, play miracle card (if you want), DRAW 2 other cards, then put ANY 2 cards from your hand back on your library. Remember folks we are talking about brainstorm here not ponder.

Edit: Here is the actual rules text they are going to be adding to the rules for miracle just posted in the wizards forums:

    702.91. Miracle

702.91a Miracle is a static ability linked to a triggered ability (see rule 603.10). "Miracle [cost]" means "You may reveal this card from your hand as you draw it if it's the first card you've drawn this turn. When you reveal this card this way, you may cast it by paying [cost] rather than its mana cost."

702.91b If a player chooses to reveal a card using its miracle ability, he or she plays with that card revealed until that card leaves his or her hand, that ability resolves, or that ability otherwise leaves the stack.

"As you draw it" is the key part of the description here.

Thanks for the information, Zoob. That's very interesting indeed. So, you can cast sorcery Miracle cards on an opponents turn, provided you have the means to make yourself draw.

Yes casting something by miracle supersedes the cards type and casting restrictions (to a certain extent) stifle would stop a miracle cast as would Teferi if it is your opponents turn and they control Teferi. I am sure there are other ways to stop a miracle card but I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

Also once you reveal the card the act of casting it is a triggered ability that goes on the stack so theoretically your opponent if they have instant speed discard could make you discard the miracle card before you actually cast it, I think. (that one I am not too sure on we will have to wait and see) though there isn't much instant speed discard beyond vendillion clique.

So even though it says you're casting it, the entire thing acts as an ability? I assumed you could stifle the reveal and ability to cast, but once it was casting, it could be countered.

I think miracles are effectively interrupts (for people who remember the days) and should be able to jump in between the effects on Brainstorm, but I'm not totally sure. Not sure if they have released the comprehensive faqs for miracle yet.

    Edit: nvm, what zoob said.

I wish they never removed the word interrupt!

Question for online players, is the cube drafting still going on, and does it cost tickets to play?

No, it closed a couple days ago. It was 7 tickets for entry.

    As for more
For those who may miss the Magic Online Cube preview weekend, don't worry.
We will have more Cube opportunities in the very near future. Stay tuned for more details.

No, it's a phantom event, you just play with them.
BUT, if you placed high enough to win prizes (Which were Innistrad/Dark Ascension packs), you get those.

Off the top of my head, there are no "pay just to play" events in MTGO, the ticket price always goes to prize support (minus operating expenses).

I'm still not a very big fan of this buddy system mechanic. The only way I'll care is if a 1 or 2 drop has a soulbond ability that will give something I care about an awesomely appropriate ability.

Miracle is a static ability (like Dredge) and not a triggered ability so it cannot be stifled. You can definitely counter the spell tho.

EDIT: Actually, I'm wrong. Turns out it can be stifled!

Granted calling EDH balanced is hilarious anyways, but Avacyn Restored is going to break Kaalia beyond all belief.
