Brainstorm is probably the best card in legacy? Agree? (If not Brainstorm, what? - Underground Sea / FoW / Basic Island?)

I'd say top 5 in Legacy is Brainstorm, Force of Will, Daze, Swords Plowshares, and Entomb. All cards that cost 1 or less mana (cause no one is hard casting Daze or FoW).

And I do indeed remember back in the day thinking that Brainstorm was an awful card. Oh how things change.

Brainstorm is great because it lets you combine the cards you draw with your hand. Ponder doesn't do that.

So you can draw 3 and put back 2 dead cards from your hand back onto your deck. Then you can crack a fetchland to shuffle them away. It's simply one of the best, if not, best card when it comes to deck/hand sculpting.

That's true. Cut out Entomb for the dual lands then, since Entomb is really only present in one deck type (even though it absolutely defines the Reanimator deck).

Also, Brainstorm is an Instant.

What are some good deck ideas? I'm mainly looking for cheap and interactive. By interactive I mean more than, say, overrun with creatures. I don't care about colors, but I do have a fun red deck I use. So maybe not red. It would be for casual play. I also enjoy aggressive decks.

Keep in mind that I only play casually with friends. So, as far as deck ideas go, treat me like a long lost tribal village with limited exposure to the outside world.

I can't really offer specific suggestions, but what I did a little while ago was sort through all of my cards (600ish) and just note which ones caught my eye as interesting pieces to theme decks around, and just built from there. For example, I really wanted to build something with Undead Alchemist, so I put together a bunch of zombies and zombie token makers, added in a few library-to-graveyard effects (Trepanation Blade!), and rounded out the deck with whatever I felt it lacked. Double checked my mana curve, tuned appropriately, and then filled out the land base.

So just start there. Find a single card that you really want to see some action with and then figure out what cards can orbit around that piece to make it shine.

Well that's the thing. I normally do that but my cards are stale. I guess I'm looking for exposure to new cards that are sturdy but not flashy. For example, I discovered Kiln Fiend and made a deck around that. All my cards are from 2002 to 2006, so anything outside that.

I mean, if what I'm asking is too broad, then don't worry about it. I certainly don't enjoy helping someone wipe their own ass either lol

I know what you mean. I was hesitant to even ask. I like that undead alchemist. I guess I should change my question: what are a few of your favorite cards from the past 5 years that cost under 4 mana and are cheap?

Well, I'll have to leave that question to people with more experience than myself, since I've only really been playing for a year and I don't look at the secondary market for cards :S

Look up Delver or BW token decks (standard format, not Legacy RUG delver). They both include some expensive cards (swords in delver, hero of blade hold and Sorin in tokens), but the basic building blocks are pretty cheap and can give you some idea.

Excluding Huntmaster of the fells, you can make some fairly cheap and fun to play stuff with Werewolves. I have a casual RG werewolf deck I enjoy a lot, flip cards are pretty entertaining.

If you want to go cheaper delver skip the swords and do esper spirit delver, most expensive cards then are 4 snapcaster mages and the white/blue dual lands. I have a esper spirit delver deck built and it is pretty fun to play. I am trying to figure out if there is any way to skew it more heavily towards black and make it more control oriented without ruining the possibility of an early delver drop.

Have you seen the cost to build Maverick lately? Savannahs alone are up to 100 now and the only blue cards that deck plays are Spell Pierce, Geist and/or Rafiq depending on the build.

I wonder what the metagame would look like if Blue got banned from legacy.

There's just so much to hate in Blue.

You either play Combo or die to it if there's no Blue.

I suppose I was thinking more of the interaction between brainstorm, snapcaster mage, and the miracle spells. I suppose it would just be easier to ban the Miracle spells that could possibly break the format though.

So I sold my cards for $3,100 to the guy. He didn't even take the moxs out of the case to look at them. 30 minutes later he calls me and tells me they are fake(which they aren't) and says meet up and I'll show you. I tell him no and it's final and what we agreed upon. Says ok and he is going to lawyer up.

I doubt I should be worried about all this but it is bothering me. The comment is just an idle threat from what I can tell but it's got me paranoid.

I'm interested in seeing where this goes. I have no legal knowledge on the matter, but isn't privately buying something sort of buyer beware? He left with the cards, they were available to browse, not like you pulled the ol switcheroo (which i strongly suspect him of)

We had a pretty big discussion about Legacy and all the AVR cards today @ FNM. The general opinion seems to be that nothing is getting banned, because even with the miracle shenanigans w/ brainstorm, Cavern of Souls craps on Blue so hard for Legacy format it will likely balance out.

Personally I still think a ban of something is coming, most likely Brainstorm (easier to ban brainstorm then 3-4 of the miracle cards), though Jace, the Wallet Shredder will likely hang around since his CMC and not being instant speed keeps it fair.

....can't believe I just used the word fair to describe Jace.
