I have one box of the sort you posted, and it's not quite full. I use my Dragonsleeve deck boxes for spacers and these things as dividers. They work really well, because I happen to have a labelmaker. For now I sort them by color and rarity, but I might sort them by set or mana cost as my collection grows. The left row is all lands, the next one in is red and black commons, next is green and blue, then white, colorless, and multicolored. 5th row is uncommons, rares, and mythics. The mythics are in some rigid sleeves, rares and non-basic lands are in some cheap 98 cent for 100 sleeves. I keep all my tokens in sleeves too, since they actually see play. Most of them are in the cheap sleeves, but the more unusual ones are in some black ultrapro sleeves i have a few of, and the emblems I have are in my Dragonshields, because I wanted to keep them easy to find.

My decks are in 70-card ultra-pro deckboxes, in my green dragonshields, which, in turn, are inside an old plastic toolbox I happened to have. It could hold about 20 decks, I think, but I've got my tokens (In a plastic case I got from wal-mart that had a bunch of old boosters in it) and a 100-card deckbox in there as well, so I think it's at 18 right now. I have my playmat on top, which just barely fits without being creased. The lid has a pair of smaller lids on top, with compartments that work very well for dice and glass counters. I might take some pictures later, its a pretty cool setup if I may say so myself.

Yeah my problem is no matter what box I buy I'll need two of them. i just got done with a preliminary inventory of the cards I've been buying since 1996-ish and I'm just over 10k cards. I don't mind hanging on to my binders for rares that I probably won't play due to their condition but I'll need 2x 5k boxes just for the loose cards not destined for decks. Mentally I've always arranged by Color > Rarity > Type but realistically speaking with a collection of my size I'll lose track of cards no matter what so I'm open to suggestion. I like the divider idea but I'll probably end up just cutting index cards and writing labels on them with a sharpie.

One thing is for sure I do not look forward to removing ~2500 cards from binders to put them into whatever storage solution I find.

I also need to deal with 4 sealed Urza's Saga starter decks and 2 disintegrating, mostly-full boxes of destiny/legacy boosters. Christ what a mess.

Anyone here wish they would come out with a Shandalar type game? I keep playing it every few months. I wish they would make a sequel or something.

Hey, My personal recommendation if you wish to play standard and avoid overspending like I did is to start with the mana base (The Shocklands) but first try to see which kind of deck you are interested in playing and get those shocklands first. The good thing about having all the shocklands is that you can make all the decks if you tire of one.

There are other cards that are "safe" to invest in at the moment, they are:

    Liliana of the Veil
    Snapcaster Mage
    Deathrite Shaman
    Abrupt Decay
    Sphinx's Revelation
    Supreme Verdict

among others I don't recall at the moment, these cards are simply very good and most decks use them or are used in other formats as well, some can be too pricey at the moment (Liliana, Snapcaster and Sphinx's)

But in general like someone mentioned, you can play Duels of the Planeswalkers at like 5$ in Steam or PSN/ Xboxlive to refresh yourself and familiarize yourself with the game, that's how I got interested in the game back in the first duels game. Other tips is to buy singles, get good sleeves to protect your cards, look up prices at tcgplayer.com so you don't get gipped in trades like I have. I'm sure i forgot some stuff but perhaps others can help.

Either way good luck and have fun

Yes, but I'm anal about organization. Honestly, 99% of all magic cards are bulk. You can probably get away with sorting out any sort of playable and then tossing the rest into boxes and putting them into some kind of storage.

And yeah, going through a bunch of sealed Urza's block product is such a mess.

@Darkruler: You might also want to look into drafting at a local game store if there is one nearby you. Drafting does not require owning cards since you will open 3 packs and effectively build your deck on the spot. This is a good way to build a collection since you are cracking packs and getting value from them in the form of entertainment. The problem is the current draft format is one pack of the last 3 sets, so it might be hard for someone who is unfamiliar with the current block. You might want to wait for the next core set, which comes out in the late summer.

My collection is getting out of hand right now and I have three of those big flat boxes with 4 rows in them full in my office. Plus I have 10 of the 1600 or 1500 count boxes full too (the ones with two rows). The big boxes really suck when they are full. They are nice in theory but when they are completely full they are so extremely heavy they are a pain in the ass to move around. Not only that but they weigh so much you can't stack them and the weight of the cards starts to deform the boxes. I recommend the slightly smaller boxes personally.

Curious question for you guys. Anyone here played Netrunner? If you have, do you view it negatively, positively or neutral as a Magic player?

Reason Im asking is I recently won Netrunner set in a raffle and trying to find people that enjoy Netrunner. Is it mechanically similar? I've never played Magic, but I understand the appeal.

    Thanks, and sorry for intruding.

It's been reprinted by FFG. Android Netrunner. Pretty popular reprint.

Nope! Sliver Queen remains on the reserved list. :\

For those of you with an iOS device, there's a rather nifty new (free) App called CardSplice out there that uses the iPad/iPhone camera to quickly read document cards and shows you graphs and whatnot regarding your colors, mana curve, etc. for decks or your entire collection. Cool idea, though it requires a little bit of papercraft to set up a pair of stands (one for the phone and one for a stack of cards) for quick reading. I'm interested to give it a shot when I get home as I would love to inventory my entire collection since I got burnt out on the project after they got physically mixed up mid-inventory. I wonder if you can flag cards in your collection as in a deck somewhere... this has some potential.

That looks pretty awesome, though I don't think I would have the patience to run all my cards through it, I'd probably get burned out after the first deck.

Don't have an ios phone anyways tho.

Something I've recently discovered on android though, among all the various magic apps, is one that seems to have everything.

    its called mtg familiar

    it has:
    card search(offline)
life counter with 3 different formats(for any amount of players) in addition to keep track of life, it also keeps a history of the changes to the life.
    mana pool calculator
    dice/coins
trade cards(two lists, yours and tradee's, looks up prices of each card on tcgplayer and compares each list with individual prices as well as a total cost)
wishlist(cards you want, saved in a list with prices from tcgplayer)
    round timer
    comprehensive rules(offline)

card search/trade/wishlist can use your phone's camera to add the cards to their respective places

i think the only thing that it doesn't have the capability of doing is deck analyze like cardsplice does

Pro Tour this weekend. Anyone planning to follow the coverage? I don't follow block constructed, but it's always interesting watching this level of competition in Magic.

Team SCG looks really stacked. I'm really interested to see Bob Maher. http://www.starcitygames.com/pages/l...otourdgm#Black

Loving this PT...especially since I grew up with Wescoe and he taught me how to play around the time Ice Age came out haha. Lets go Wescoe!
