Watched Maher draft and play then caught some block games. Switched to SCG for Standard since Dallas double Standard is next weekend.

i hope rob castellon wins it all
Did he end up staying undefeated? Would be pretty cool to keep it that way
he lost a couple games, but still at the top, tied with wescoe
My boy straight dominated...fuck yeah!!!
man, really not a big fan of the new art design for slivers and its global effect being limited to shit you control, it's borderline sacrilege in my book.
if they want that kind of effect on base set, they could've been served better printing new allies or shit, instead of trolling an established tribe
With it being the base set, I doubt we'd get anything interesting beyond global p/t buff and static abilities either, so it's pretty disappointing so far, but I suppose at least the megantic, sentry, and the haste one would make decent addition to Overlord EDH or something.
The whole things feel like a limited trap though, I'd imagine you'd be served well for not fighting for scrap in drafting slivers.
Dark Confidant in Modern Masters for sure. Being printed with new art at Mythic. I am happy it is in but I am pissed they bumped it up to mythic. All the decent modern money cards are going to get bumped up to mythic.
Rob Castellon definitely had the most interesting deck in the top 8. As someone who has been playing Esper during most of this standard season, I know exactly what Dusty Ochoa was feeling all too well when Rob resolved a Sire of Insanity against Dusty full hand of cards lol. Wescoe simply crushed in the finals.
HUGE changes coming with M14:

Ugh this new legend rule is a real game changer. Also another thing in pointing towards Theros being a Legendary heavy and the rumored return of Grandeur.
Jittes and Thalias for all!
Biggest impact is for sure Jace no longer being an out to killing another Jace lol.
Thrun will never die.
Suddenly clone went from a 1$ card to a .49c card. Noooooooooooo!
Phantasmal Image probably will take a hit lol
i just pulled a ral zarek out of a booster. pretty happy i grabbed the last pack they had.
I feel like this entire change was just so cloning couldn't be used to kill legendaries. A little bit excessive.
So, i don't know what to think of the changes. but it is pretty good for my affinity deck now. Suddenly having multiple mox opals in hand is now a good thing, since now any extras are effectively lotus petals which is nuts. already about 30$ on tcgplayer, and gaea's cradle is crazy expensive now too. i hope they go back on this rule change honestly.
I did like the sideboarding change though, its much more logical and isnt so harsh to new players, also a bit more flexible too.
Man, it's been a while since I played/collected Magic (or Yugioh) frequently. I've seen some of the new Return to Ravnica stuff lately, and really like the original Ravnica stuff. I just don't have the disposable income or enough contact with friends who still play anymore these days, sadly.
I also heard there was a 2014 version of the Duels of the Planeswalkers coming out soon. Any word yet on whether or not they allow you to make your own decks from scratch yet? I got the first two games when they came out, but I stopped since they never did add that feature, and I know a lot of people were demanding it. Last I heard, they didn't want to implement it because they were afraid it would hurt their main MTG Online game sales or something...
2013 has preset decks with about 40 cards to unlock per deck, but you can only add or remove using the cards allocated to that deck - you can't even edit your mana base aside from adding / removing special lands.
Not sure if 2014 will add the ability to make custom decks but i seriously doubt it. It's probably that way intentionally to keep that functionality only available for the online MTG
