So Modern Masters spoilers started today. About 90 cards are known atm and even if the remaining cards to be spoiled are all worth $0 the average value of a pack is still around $10.40 this is also not taking in to consideration there is a foil every pack. Good news for anyone getting packs at MSRP. Depending on what else is in the set and how big the print runs actually are $10 per pack might not be that bad considering.

As far as I can tell all the rares and all the mythics have been spoiled and I am really disappointed to not see Mutavault or Thoughtseize. Unless they were dropped down to uncommon (highly unlikely). Or am I not counting the rares correctly?

That being said I am happy that Kitchen Finks stayed at uncommon but sad at some of the other rarity bumps.

Mutavault is confirmed out, Thoughtseize currently has one spot left in name and number crunch where it can fit but odds are its not in. Mutavault is very disappointing since it can't be reprinted in a normal set. WotC did say that cards like Thoughtseize fall into a category of cards they can print in any set as its not overpowered for standard and isn't tied mechanically/Flavor wise to any where. Cards along those lines were purposefully left out to make space for stuff they can't just reprint whenever. However knowing all this makes the no mutavault reprint suck even more.

If they did leave out thoughtseize that better mean it is getting a reprint in M14 or Theros otherwise that is going to really suck. That is one of the cards I was really looking forward to be able to pick up finally.

I honestly don't think Masters will do anything to help the price situation for the cards. If they would have printed a normal amount of packs then yes, but at $270-300 per box, its only going to hurt.

Yeah that is what I was thinking at this point too. Wizards needs to get a handle on their retailers to prevent this type of price gouging. It is entirely within the realm of possibility for them to control their product distribution better to ensure smaller retailers get a fair amount of product and that large and small retailers alike stick to msrp. That at least would have helped things. This is a fair set at $160 a box but not at its current prices.

How do people even buy them at MSRP, let alone wholesale? Do people form a fake corporation for a week then put in a purchase order as a certified retail outlet? Everywhere I go I see people resigning themselves for outrageous prices for MM, and none of the shops I know about even offer reservations.

I mean, yeah. A big demographic for wizards is table top players that are casual. A hobby with a competitive nature that yields prizes of some sort will definitely cost money. Even non competitive ones do. It's all about what you enjoy for something.

Well I know at least in my area the game stores near my house (there are 4 total that run Magic and sell product) try their best to sell everything at msrp. They all sold pretty much everything at msrp including FTV sets. Until stupid commanders arsenal came along then the prices got jacked up because the wholesalers were jacking up the prices and now my one game store I am loyal to was promised a certain amount of product from WoTC and wholesalers that are authorized dealers of Wizards products but they just got emails from all their distributors that the product they were promised was being sold to StarcityGames instead. So now my local game store instead of getting what they were promised and selling at msrp is getting 1/4-1/3 of what they were promised and had to jack up the prices.

Starcitygames is complete shit and they cause a lot of issues with the game. They are too big and corner the market on products to artificially drive up the price.

MM will certainly help with Uncommons like Finks. Rares might drop a bit, but I doubt the Mythics will change in price at all.

Yeah, SCG is pretty much the reason why legacy is infinite money. Pretty sure legacy is fading out too, they no longer really hold legacy tournaments anymore. It's been Standardx2 from what I've seen. There could be other reasons behind it though, but jeez.

The sad thing is they are pushing Modern in that direction too. They continually buy up all the stock they can get their hands on from all the other stores of modern staples then slowly feed it back out to the public at an inflated price.

Buy from the Chinese companies. The cards are worth more here and cost less to buy. Seems like a simple decision to me.

What Chinese companies do you recommend that are safe to purchase from?

Side note: Does anyone know of a source of Modern Masters that is selling boxes less than $250? Is there anywhere not gouging on it?

After the SCG price gouge I haven't seen a box online going for less then $270. You wont find anything lower then 250 online as they will get bought by SCG/other gougers to get resold. At this point I think the only way your going to a box under $250 is at the LGS level and even then most are only selling to regulars. If your hellbent on getting a box under $250 outside of your network of LGS best bet is to ask around with anyone you know that plays outside your area and get them to nab packs or a box from their LGS to pass on to you. Other then that only other real option is wait it out initial rush and hope prices calm a little or if theres a 2nd wave of shipments(which has been alluded to but nothing is certain)

EDIT: There are some stores like mine that are getting like triple what they expected to get and are keeping hush hush on it and passing the opportunity along to regular customers. Planned on getting one box but given that I may pick up more now since it will be available. If my LGS has the stock to spare and my money permits I may grab an extra box or two to get BG players some packs at a decent price. No promises obviously but if your interested PM me and I'll get back to you in a week or two when the details become clearer on what I can do.

http://www.mtgmintcard.com/ is the Chinese site I always bought from.

Here is what you need to do though:

    1. Buy over $100 worth at a time
    2. Always use their Ebay site as opposed to the main Website

This will give you free shipping + expediated shipping. It will take literally 2-3 days to get to your doorstep from China. I was always amazed at how fast their shipping was. If you order under $100 and DON'T pay for the expediated shipping, it takes 2-3 weeks to get to you.

Also, I would ALWAYS order their their Ebay page instead of their website. They REALLY don't want negative feedback. Once, I ordered 4 Jace The Mind Sculptor in Chinese from their Ebay site on a Wednesday, and I needed them for Friday. I didn't receive them Friday, complained Saturday before they showed up an hour later, and then on Tuesday 4 MORE Jace showed up on my doorstep for free. Obviously, they thought they forgot to ship them so I got 8 for the price of 4.

Scenario 2: I bought 4 Chinese Marsh FLats on their ebay site. They arrived 2 days later in Englsih. I complained. They sent me 4 Chinese Marsh Flats for free and didn't want the English ones back, just wanted the negative feedback removed.

Honestly, the best customer service I've ever dealt with.

Edit: Once you buy $100+ from them on an order, you get a 10% off coupon for your next order.

Edit 2: Here is their Ebay site - http://myworld.ebay.com/goods-seller...p2047675.l2559
