I didn't go, but a guy from my store won the whole thing.

Reid Duke plays at your store? Sorry man lol
none of my friends will play against my nicol bolas control deck anymore![]()
Yeah I know what you mean. It would be nice to to clear that plateau of the playerbase. I've only ever really done FNMs, I don't do big events. I went to GP Miami cause of the playmat and it's only 2 hours away and my friend offered to pay for my hotel, so I was like fine, whatever. I ended up going 6-3, which is alright I guess. The first 2 I lost there was nothing I could do about it. I have junk rites dead on board after he mulls to 6 and has 1 card in hand. He draws a land, plays it, casts angel of serenity and I lose. Game 2 I deaded him fairly quick. Game 3 was sort of a downhill battle. I missed a land drop and he killed my mana dork with a garruk and was just able to tutor up serenities, so I was dead. I didn't sideboard properly though, so that was my fault. The next match loss was so BRW Aristo with maindeck conscripts. I have him dead on board (sounds familiar!) and he has 1 card in hand. He draws, plays the land he drew, conscripts my aurelia, I'm so very dead. Game 2 mark of mutiny on my aurelia, dead etc. I did beat Todd Anderson though, that as kinda neat. It was my quickest match too lol. I lost my 3rd and win and day2 to junk aristo's. I kept a fairly sketch but ok hand game 1 since I didn't know what I was playing against, and just didn't see a 3rd land. I had to turn 3 farseek, suppperrr awkward. Game 2 I mull to 6 and keep an awful hand because I'm bad and lose. All in all, it was fun. I enjoyed it. It felt like a really huge FNM to me though. I was kinda peeved that I couldn't test for L1 even though I answered all the pre-test questions correctly and the judge even got something wrong while asking me stuff. Oh well, always next time.
Nice. 6-3 isn't a bad record at all. Sucks that you missed Day 2, though.
I'm mainly an FNM warrior myself though I'll probably be at the SCG Invitational in NJ coming up. Standard isn't really my thing, though.
Have you guys been checking out the spoilers for M14?
M14 looks about usual for a core set. Not sure how much scavenging ooze is going to impact. I feel like it's either going to be amazing or just good. When snapcaster and frites rotate out, it'll lose some steam. But oh shit @ modern lol
I am excited this coreset has ooze and mutavault in it. I hope to finish my playset of oozes and pick up a playset of mutavaults now. Other than that looks like a pretty straight forward core set.
I already have 4 mutavaults and 3 oozes lol, woo! Most of the work done for me.
Someone teach me how to fight blue/black mill without going red/white weenies and outracing a mind funeral. I'm not a fan of the human flavor. Yanking things back out of my graveyard at low cost does not seem to be the strong suit of the golgari and I don't see a whole lot to combat it in other colors.
In standard or tabletop fun?
"Loading" up on Sol Rings sounds...fair? lolol
As for mill, there's things like ivory mask/true believer/witchbane orb which shuts mill down pretty good. Or there's that one card, uhh gaea's blessing. Or just throw an eldrazi in your deck lol. Or psychic spiral the shit out of them
could do elixir of immortality. shuffle your graveyard back into your library, gain 5 life. it's an Uncommon, recent card, 1 mana to play 2 mana to activate. i like to throw them into decks where i have high library turnover.
Need to start brewing and practicing M14 standard decks. PTQ at my LGS the week after M14 releases. Anyone play cockatrice? I use woogerworks server
So I am down visiting family in the Monterey area of California for an extended period of time. I decided to go to the one game store in the entire area that runs Magic tournaments. That store is so dismal and empty it was really depressing. The shop is on the verge of going out of business because no one buys product from the store. They only run one draft for FNM every week.
Such a stark difference from the Reno area where we have a huge magic scene including enough people to support 2 legacy tournaments every week and 4 stores total between Reno and Carson City. I wish the magic scene down here was better.
How long are you down there? If you took the drive up to San Francisco, I'd imagine you'd find a better magic scene.
I honestly don't know how much longer I will be down here but I won't be able to drive up to SF that is about a 2hr drive and I would be lucky to get to drive the 45 min into Monterey. If I get to go play I will just have to draft for the time being and my BUG legacy deck will just gather dust![]()
I wish I had more time I bet I could get the magic scene down here going better if I could get that store more organized. They barely had any product at all it sucked.
Any of you MTG finance guys? I opened a pretty decent pool at prerelease that had Kalonian Hydra and went 3-0 split for 8 packs and then opened a Garruk 4. You guys think I should aggressively trade these away for stuff like shocks (I'm hording these) or hold them?
