Bluh. Want to move into EDH, but I need a new phone first. Selling off whatever standard I can before in the next couple of days, then will probably sell the rest to Troallandtoad. Take a look if you're interested.

    Just a heads up:

•4x Godless Shrine [RTR Block] $.75/ea

I assume that's an obvious typo, but if not I'll snap buy them for that.

Yeah, it is. Adjusted price to $7.50. Trollandtoad has reasonable "I wanna dump all my shit" prices for most of the cards, like 60-75% on most things, but I figured I'd squeeze what I could out of them over the weekend. Sold my two Nykthos and a Stormbreath, got $5 more than I would have at TNT.

Looks like GP Richmond drew 4301 registered players and obliterated the previous record turnout. Modern is looking pretty rejuvenated with the recent changes as well.

SCG stream if you're interested (Cedric/Chapin make for excellent commentary) for the weekend's event.

Chapin's commentary during the Dickmann/Panda match in round 9 was hilarious. Chapin's reaction to Richard bolting Patrick Dickmann in game 2.

So, I with the GP minni coming up, I need some advice for a Modern Mill Deck I want to run there. My skill level isn't high enough to win yet but I want to do my best and play something I find enjoyable. Which is mill.
Here a bunch of cards I've been thinking about. Gonna try to make a deck out of them during the week.

    Sorcery;
    Damnation
    Glimpse the Unthinkable
    Mind Funeral
    Haunting Echoes
    Tome Scour
    Mind Sculpt
    Sanity Grinding
    Sadistic Sarcrament

    Instants;
    Thought Scour
    Surgical Extraction
    Extirpate
    Archive Trap
    Twincast
    Visions of beyond
    Quash
    Remand
    Trapmakers Snare
    Devistation Tire
    Broken Ambitions
    Path to Exile

    Creatures;
    Hedron Crab
    Nemesis of Reasoning
    Snapcaster Mage
    Wall Of Denial

    Planeswalkers
    Jace, Memory Adapt.

What would be some thoughts on making a good consistant Modern deck? I'll worry about the land when I get the other 36 sorted out.

while i wouldnt personally advocate trying to play mill in modern i will direct you to a forum i frequent and its thread on the UB mill deck. It should at least give you some ideas on what you want to do instead of starting with scratch, although there is some fun in that in of itself.
    http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/t...21596-ubx-mill

Modern is a pretty fast format, i wouldnt bother trying to make stuff like jace or nemesis of reason work, they're just too slow and disrupt able

Also fetch-lands are vital to the deck if you want to fully utilize the Hedron Crabs you'll be running, theyre worth more then they should realistically cost.

yeah mill is pretty slow. it's fantastic for two-headed giant, though, if you do it right.

my mill deck isn't standard but you might get some decent ideas. also, keep in mind, i only rarely buy singles, so my decks are all thrown together out of cards i pull, instead of always 4x like most players do for competitions.

    1x Lightning Greaves
    1x Swiftfoot Boots
    1x Dimir Cutpurse
    1x Dimir Keyrune
    2x Jace, Memory Adept
    3x Crosstown Courier
    4x Paranoid Delusions
    3x Consuming Aberration
    1x Trepanation Blade
    1x Traumatize
    2x Aqueous Form
    4x Jace's Phantasm
    1x Mind Grind
    2x Duskmantle Guildmage
    1x Belltower Sphinx
    2x Bonehoard
    1x Lazav, Dimir Mastermind
    2x Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker

    1x Rogue's Passage
    4x Dimir Guildgate
    11x Swamp
    11x Island

It does okay. It's slow, so it's vulnerable to fast decks. It does best in multiplayer games, especially 2-headed giant with a teammate with lots of early game defenses. The nice thing about Cipher is that it doesn't actually target the creature, so it can go through Shroud. Also, the really heavy hitters for mill are Consuming Aberration, Mirko Vosk, and Mind Grind. that mill-until-land shit can be absolutely brutal. Mind Grind can actually kill in one go, late-game. If they've already played a lot of their lands and you pump the hell out of it, they may not even have enough lands left to reveal. Though the rest of the critters/spells can build up to be pretty scary.

I've been considering adding in a bit of control, with Psychic Strike. Counter spell + 2 card mill. It's worked pretty well in my Nicol Bolas control deck.

A guy at my store runs mill. Here's his list:

    Deck: Modern Mill.dec

    Counts : 60 main / 15 sideboard

    Creatures:5
    4 Hedron Crab
    1 Snapcaster Mage

    Spells:33
    2 Surgical Extraction
    4 Thought Scour
    4 Visions of Beyond
    4 Breaking // Entering
    4 Glimpse the Unthinkable
    4 Remand
    3 Crypt Incursion
    4 Mind Funeral
    4 Archive Trap

    Lands:22
    4 Darkslick Shores
    3 Drowned Catacomb
    3 Ghost Quarter
    3 Island
    3 Misty Rainforest
1 Oboro, Palace in the Clouds
    1 Swamp
    4 Watery Grave

    Sideboard:15
    3 Engineered Explosives
    3 Inquisition of Kozilek
    4 Jace's Phantasm
    1 Surgical Extraction
    2 Thoughtseize
    2 Snapcaster Mage

He knows he needs more fetches, and I think he updated it with the UB scryland. Like Viserdes said, Modern is a turn 4 format so I'd cut the 5cc stuff. 4 Archive Traps is absolutely crucial imo.

I really like that deck list. That looks very fun to play. Never thought of adding Crypt Incursion. And I've tried Modern mill two years ago. I know it can be slow, but it sure is fun when it goes off.

I would take modern mill to a local small game shop for FNM but I wouldn't take it to a GP personally. I am trying to finish up my first modern deck I have most of KarnTron built. I am missing 1 Karn and some other smaller less expensive cards, commons and uncommons. What KarnTron builds have you guys seen and liked?

I've seen both RG Tron and UW Tron. RG Tron is a terrible matchup for me cos I play Melira Pod. If you have a lot of Melira Pod in your meta, then I would build that. Both versions are pretty bad against Zoo, however.

I'm still terribly biased in favor of Scapeshift but Zoo, Living End, Tron, and Affinity still carry weight. Much like Dredge, Mill has the advantage G1 but post-board is where it gets shut down hard.

Currently giving Hatebears a lick and I like it with the current meta tier.

I wanted to do White/Black Tokens for the Minni Gp but I don't have a lot of money for it. Bitterblossoms and fetch lands. Like fuck.

Why it pays to have built respect with wealthier friends to lend you cards/decks. Or not having a gag reflex. Whatever gets you sleeved up.

If a single deck that uses a few fetchlands and a $50 rare playset I'd avoid Legacy as Duals, Wastelands, FoW, JTMS, and other $100 cards are the norm across nearly every major deck foundation. Tough format to enter unless you're rich, lucky, or you have good friends.

I have a BUG Delver Legacy deck and the only reason why is because most of the cards I either got lucky getting them cheap in garage sale collections like my playset of Sinkholes and wastelands that I got out of a box for $50 or I have had them since I was 12 when I started playing and pulled them from normal packs like my FoW playset and all my dual lands. The main thing I am missing for that deck is 3 more 'goyfs. I would love to build legacy stoneblade but man I am missing some major cards for that like 3 flooded strands 2 marsh flats, JTMS, 2 Stoneforges...

I think I am going to try to build U/W KarnTron for Modern though. I like the idea of running Academy Ruins with Wurmcoil Engine.

What would be a nice affordable deck I could use for minni gp? I'm really torn here. I want to win but I also want to go the fun route. I enjoy affinity a lot but that's expensive. This is why I hate modern. Everything is fucking expensive.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I have RUG Delver built (BUG Delver hoses me ) for the most part and only missing 2 Force of Wills. I had the Wastelands from a bulk box from when I was a kid. Unfortunately, I sold most of my dual lands when I was in college for beer money, so I had to rebuy them in 2011. I managed to get 3 volcs and 3 trops for about $300 total which, I thought at the time, was a lot of money for 6 cards. Nowadays that would cost over $1000. I also bulked out a ton of stuff to pick up my playset of Goyfs around the same time and moved in on fetches when they were $15 each during SOM/INN standard.

The prices nowadays are simply insane. It gets to the point of me being afraid to bring the deck (Melira isn't exactly cheap either) when I go to my LGS because I'm not too crazy about the idea of carrying around 4 figures worth of money inside a little box. Then I question why I have the deck if I'm just going to leave it at home. I'm never going to build another Legacy deck, but I really enjoy playing RUG even though it's not really T1 anymore.

Burn? :/ Modern is approaching Legacy prices. Competitive and budget don't really go hand in hand in magic unfortunately. A couple months ago, I would have said build RG Tron, but that ship sailed.

ughhh. i sold off a pile of revised/unlimited dual lands like 12 years ago for maybe $100 sounds like i could've paid off a sizable chunk of my college loans at the current prices

incidentally some friends and i were out to dinner over the weekend and the subject of this game came up. none of us have played in like 15 years so we all decided to go out and buy the prefab decks so we can get drunk and mess around with a few games soon. i am pretty excited to try it out again, but apprehensive about getting sucked back in
