The amazing thing about that black lotus is that everyone is talking about how much its worth but if he got it graded which he should do because its pack fresh it would be worth about 5x more.

And on the other side of things, a small bunch of conspiracy theorists are saying that the Alpha Pack is a reseal because it's impossible for Tropical Island to be packed with a Black Lotus because of the way the sheets are printed. I'll leave it to Alpha being so badly printed.
59.6% win rate at draft, 49.29% win rate at Standard. Guess I'm better with 40 cards.
smaller decks are usually easier, in my experience. especially in a format where people can't drop $200 on a specific gimmick.
I'm assuming that the 30k figure is if it gets graded. A high end ungraded black bordered lotus gets anywhere from 10-20k. There's actually a BGS 9 Alpha lotus on Ebay for 20k right now. It'll get higher if this guy's lotus hits 9.5 or 10, but that's incredibly rare even with pack fresh cards from that era. It's pretty safe to assume that lotus is never going to be played.
There is just too much homework involved when going into a constructed event. Even if you drop $200 dollars for a deck (and that's actually pretty cheap for a competitive standard deck), there's usually a deck that will counter yours unless the format is just super oppressive. Predicting the meta and knowing how to sideboard is half the battle before you even shuffle up.
I just want to show up, open my 3 packs, and know how to read the signals to build the best deck. Drafting rewards building the best deck, knowing how to do combat, and being able to read/bluff the opponent a lot more than 60 card formats. That's why I like it.![]()
Took 1st/2nd in LA SCG States on Sunday. Drew with Tom Ross in the finals, got the champion swag and he took official first place (since he needs the points way more than I do since I'm just a local FNM hero). Half a box of Modern Masters was pretty sweet too. Decklist @

Finally snagged a Khans booster box at a reasonable price on Amazon. $100 including prime 2 day shipping. Hope I get to see my friends soon so we can draft it or do a sealed game or something.
Just out of curiosity has anyone done the math and figured out what the average expected value per pack is in this set yet? Or know a website where that information is available? I know it would be hard because prices fluctuate and depend on where you get your prices from but it would be interesting.
it is at about 120-140 last i checked another mtg forum about it, the value of the khans boxes are unusually high for a new set release and it is expected to drop in the coming weeks, because when a store can open more value then a box is worth they will keep cracking boxes (they get boxes really cheap at about 70-80 each).
Yeah I noticed that the box prices were staying unusually high on amazon too. Most of them were hovering in the $110-$120 range. Usually amazon has boxes below what the retail stores are selling them at ($110) I think if I was going to crack boxes and expect value that I would have to get the boxes in that $70-$80 range. $100 is cheap enough for me to open it without feeling bad as long as I can have some fun with it while I open it.
Edit: I noticed that because the fetches are the chase cards of this set all the other rares and the mediocre mythics are much lower in value than I have seen in other sets too. I bet this will equalize out as well once other rares/mythics become popular for standard once the format is figured out.
What do you guys who buy boxes even do with all those trash commons/uncommons you get in absurd duplicates?
Actually, just the other day i saw that convoke the flames and a few other uncommons were worth a bit, so i sold any extras i had to a local store (card kingdom). I dont play standard so its always nice to get a decent amount from just uncommons that would otherwise probably never see the light of day again. Other then that, i imagine when i get too many cards ill sell them online as bulk.
This site is pretty much exactly what you're looking for: http://www.mtgstocks.com/sets/239
I think right now my box ended up being worth around 120 at current prices for anything over 2 bucks.
Won gameday with my 1 Delta no Dig Through Time UB Control deck lol.
Won Gameday with jeskai Midrange. Pulled all of my wins out of my ass. Each win I was under 5 life and just drew like a god
Alex Bertoncini top 8'd so far this weekend in Legacy with U/R Delver. Will Treasure Cruise be the new two Explore?
Nm I mixed up Treasure Cruise and Dig Through Time. I will have to play around with Treasure Cruise in my BUG delver deck.
