Simple answer: Yes.
Treasure Cruise has warped Legacy. A lot of people have come off of Shardless BUG simply because Treasure Cruise is a much better card than Ancestral Visions.
RUG Delver (I refuse to call this Temur Delver) has dropped G entirely for UR Delver or now runs Young Pyromancer instead of Nimble Mongoose to accomodate Cruise.
I actually know Alex's opponent from the quarterfinals. He was really happy to have finally spiked a SCG T8.
Super annoyed. Went to a little Tourney for free entry into a large tourney, barely make it to top 8 because every round, and I mean every round I had 1 game where I'd get the opponent down to <4 life and I'd lose from 20 life. I'd just get 6-7 land top decks in a row. Then in top 8, I got knocked out because of that happening in two games.
Yes, I shuffle the deck like 4 different ways after each match.
Ive been tweaking my Red Aggro deck,
currently im killing 70-80% on turn 3 or 4 best ranked went like this:
Turn 1 :
mana
Crusader
T2:
mana
swiftspear
Dragon mantle @ crusader
swing 4
T3:
mana
Swiftspear
dragon mantle@ crusader
Titians strength @ crusader
swing 13
they forfeited had nothing on the board due to playing 2 scry lands.
I was playing against this RW aggro heroic kinda deck thing. I'm playing Ari Lax Abzan. He floods out game 1 and I get like elspeth, ajani, and he concedes when I cast sorin. Game 2 my hand is forest, plains, windswept heath, urborg and some spells and I'm like ugh ok keep. He plays like the 1/1 heroic that makes a haste guy into the 1/2 haste prowess guy and does some other things and I'm like oh god I'm so dead I'm so dead, the only card that saves me is drown in sorrow. Draw for turn, obv drown in sorrow. Luuuuuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkyyyyyyy
yea drown in sorrow is the stop to the rush , i had white in it slowed me down to much even if it kept things alive. good part of drown though is you can kinda plan for it so that match i was holding on to a rouse the mob and a rabble master for turn 4+
So, I'm running the Jeskai Midrange/burn flyers deck. I want to fix it up to be consistent with wins. What's in it is...
4 Hushwing Gryff
4 Seeker of the Way
4 Mantis Rider
3 Ashcloud Phoenix
2 Stormbreath Drag
4 Jeskai Charm
4 Magma Jet
3 Stoke the Flames
2 Banishing Light
2 Dig Through Time
4 Lightning Strike
4 Mystic Monastery
3 Temple of Triumph
3 Temple of Epiphany
3 Shivan Reef
3 Battlefield Forge
3 Mountain
1 Island
1 Plains
Any ideas? I've debated about using Deflecting Palm mainboard. I really love that card and there is very little that can stop it(aside from Counter) since it doesn't target creatures. Hexproof and Pro red/white mean nothing.
I won the Gameday by luck, I want to win the 5k Tourney by skill
by the way, there is such a thing as shuffling too much. you often end up with clumps. what i do is separate out my lands after each game, shuffle them and my spells separately, and then (with sleeved cards) mesh them back together so that there ends up being a land roughly every 2-3 cards. then i split the deck in half and mesh it back together the same way. i do that a total of three times (not counting putting the lands back) and then stop. Ends up being a pretty good balance. I don't play without sleeves and the meshing only works with sleeves so i cant help with that.
I started doing something similar when putting my cards back in the deck after a game, making sure I put land between every so many cards. Definitely helped out instead of just stacking everything together with no order. Still like your way better than mine though.
Yea roughly a third of your deck should be lands so I usually separate my land between games and then place a land after every two cards, then cut and shuffle once or twice.
Thats the only way I've found to guarentee a good spread, is to manually place lands every third card before shuffling.
I started crushing my fiance doing this so she started to do it as well and it evened out the draws for the most part.
It's ok if you're casually playing and both of you know that you're doing it with the specific intent of reducing mana issues. I can get that, have a higher percentage of games where you're both casting your spells about on time.
FNM I would explain the non randomization of it, competitive REL would be a judge call
Yea mr and my fiance just play together. I dont play competetively so we would rather play a more even match than a match where the game is decided by who gets mana fucked
Also, it's possible for your opponents to use that against you. When you hand your deck over to them to cut, they can basically remove the land and put it all on top or on the bottom.
from what i was told by a judge / store owner is this :
I can post match split my deck into 3 piles
Shuffle each pile face down
recombine all 3 stacks face down *layering*
cut or shuffle the deck
THEN hand it off to be cut.
he told me this works because im randomizing the cards then cutting then letting the other person cut as well *or shuffle as some like to do*
There's some ambiguity in here, how many shuffles did you do? I don't care if you order your deck into the exact 60 you want. If you do 8 or 9 good shuffles, then anything you had before doesn't matter. Shuffling more is never going to start recreating 'clumps' either. You can't rely on handing the deck over to the opponent to finish randomizing. You are to offer a sufficiently random deck and if you offer me a deck that is always spell spell land, repeat, that's not good enough
The planechase stuffs is kinda neat, but in casuals we always just keep a deck of effects nearby for fun, flip top card, keep in play for round unless someone decides to off it. Working on a Progenitus EDH deck of all legendary crap, barring basic lands, should be fun...
full breakdown of what I do,
Split deck into:
Lands
Non-creature
Creatures
Hand Shuffle each pile for 5-10secs or so not long
Shuffle each stack into another stack of 3
A B C / A B C / A B C
19 21 21
layer them back together in ACB
take the 3 stacks *now randomish mono mana wooo*
then layer 1 from each stack till the deck is remade minus the extra 5 cards they just get placed w/e i feel like
Hand-shuffle or just cut it and hand it over to opponent to do what they will.
My roommate will hand shuffle for example, most people just cut. either way it seems to fix MOST mana issues doesnt stop me from having clumps or anything but i tend to draw enough to play with just have to hope i draw good cards to play with.
I should state that this all assumes im keeping massive track of all this shit made 0 mistakes , when generally im blazed up can barely keep from just laughing and lost track of what card i was on EVEN AT HOME , i tend to fuck up the final layering and forget what stack i had pulled from last and just restart.
