Totally legal (and recommended) to write down revealed cards from their hand. Don't have to be tryhard anal about it but having quick notes of important cards is very handy because even the best can't keep track of all the cards and permutations at all times. Another useful toolbox item is a notebook that shows what to sideboard to what deck/card and to note where you made fumbles and mistakes (as well as ingenious blowout plays you did).

Building play consistency, lowering variance, and tracking your metagame are the three things that pushes a player from average to competitive FNM and FNM kingpin to respectable PTQ/Open Series finishers.

So, during the 5 round Modern Tourney for 500 bucks, I was going 2/1, I got massively downpaired to someone who was 0/3. He's playing some Heroic dumbshit deck, guy is taking like an hour each turn. Get to game three, go to time, on turns. He manages to barely win because my deck apparently thought that giving me 4 land in a row verse any pump spell or anything would be the better option while my opponent is at 8 Infect and i have 1 Ink Moth on the field.

So he beats me, that's cool. We fill out the match slip, hand it to the main judge. My opponent does one of those sketchy follow the person in power till they're out of ear shot things, looks at me and says "I'm dropping and going home". I ask him why he even filled out the slip of win winning then if he was just going to drop, he had zero chance at getting prizes anyways. He looks at me and goes, and I shit you not.

"I guess I could tell them you won or make up a lie to get me a game loss but" then does an action of raising your shoulders and saying "Meeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" for like 15 seconds. Gets up, tells the judge he drops, and leaves.

I'm all for dream crushing, that's fine, if you stay in the tourney though. He beats me and left in such a dick way. I'm still pissed about it, the judges were pissed about it, showed horrible sportsmanship. And none of the judges could change anything because the prick waited till the match was entered into the computer to do that.

Man, today was just a horriblly bad day for me magic wise. Game loss for shuffling a sideboard card into my mainboard in match one and getting deck checked, that retarded ass Pact error where the entire fucking place laughed at me for 30 minutes, and then that asshole.

After that I went and spent 120 bucks on a Hylian shield to make me happy but damn it, I'm still so Sultai about the whole thing. So Sultai

Just put a Temur Control deck together on Cockatrice and having a lot of fun being annoying as crap with it.

If anyone's up for games this moment or tonight, hit me up.

I have the same problem. I really want one of those mats though. I haven't gotten a new playmat in a while.

If anyone else is going and doesn't want their mat I am in the market for one too.

So this past weekend I drove out to GP Nashville, didn't do too bad considering that the two people that I had with me had never played in a GP before. We went 2-3-2 and I was helping them out too much and was the cause of the two draws else wise I would have won both of those games.

On Sunday I ended up drafting something that I haven't done in Khans up tell that point, Secret Plans. P1P1 was Secret Plans, followed by Abzan Guide, Ponyback Brigade, Opulent Palace, and Secret plans. Ended up getting a Surrak, P2P2 so that happens I guess. In total the deck was 2 Secret Plans, 2 Banners, 2 Tri-lands, 5 dual colored lands, 11 basics, Surrak, Tailor Swiftspear, Bloodfire Mentor, Crippling Chill, Blinding Spray and the rest were morphs. I gave him the victory after having him in a position to kill him because I was headed back to Richmond. the match took an hour and a half.

Don't know about the rest of you guys, but I find that in KTK drafts, when I draft Jeskai color set with the potential of having to end up going Temur after a pack or two, or something that's only dual type, I end up wrecking house.

Control + Prowess is just freaking dumb, man.

I've only drafted KTK twice, but both times I end up wishing I'd gone mono-white. I am pretty terrible at this game, so there's that.

Drafting and sealed is usually fun even if you do terribly. You get to crack packs and play some magic. I always enjoy opening packs, the smell, the rush of the gamble etc.

Anyone picking up the new commander decks from this year? I like the white one which of course is the most expensive. The red one has a wurmcoil engine in it. I am not sure about this planeswalker as a commander thing though.

The white one has a Containment Priest where I can foresee going to D&T to deal with Elves (one of their worst matchups) and potential SB option to deal with Elves, Sneak/Show, Dredge/Reanimate, Painter, and various other tier 2 decks.

Not super OP like Delver or Cruise but does help fair decks.

And still interested in case someone attending NJ wants to sell their playmat and/or some sleeve sets. Also don't forget to get your Brainstorms signed by AJ Sacher as he is confirmed for attending.
