Step 1 would be to make sure there's a shop that you can play standard at that's within driving distance of where you're moving to. If it's London, you should be OK.

Check out this link. It aggregates the top decks from all recent events as well as MODO. Abzan Midrange is probably the current most popular deck in the format. They're all built differently, but most have 4 ofs of Siege Rhino, Courser of Kruphix, Sylvan Caryatid and then some number of Wingmate Roc, Sorin, Solemn Visitor, etc. But that link should give you all the information that you need.

The current duallands are the temples from Theros block, the off color pain lands in M15 core and the fetchlands in Khans of Tarkir. So 40 Temples, 20 pain lands and 20 fetches. Keep in mind this is going to run you several hundred dollars just for all the lands if you want to just have a playset of every rare land in standard.

Fetchlands are useful because they are strictly better than a basic land. The deck thinning is pretty negligible from a statistical point of view. They're not that powerful in standard. They shine more in eternal formats where they can actually fetch up dual lands and shock lands since those lands have both of the basic land types. For example, tundra counts as both island and plains so it can be fetched with any fetchland that can grab either plans or island which is quite a lot.

Ignore painlands and temples, theyll be out of standard soon. Youll get the best mileage out of your fetchlands in the long term, so if your to get a set get those. Also, they are almost as good as original duals, for instance a polluted delta can grab any blue or black original dual land, making color fixing really easy in the formats theyre legal in. It's not about the deck thinning but some subtle interactions with cards like Brainstorm and the very efficient mana fixing that fetches provide that make them eternal staples.

Sweet, I got a like 8 of them already... i hit up all the walgreens in the roanoke valley, va. and between the 5 boxes i bought, and a shit ton of single packs from wal-mart (something probably close to another box) I think i'll be doing alright...

And yeah I need to see if there's a card shop/gaming center near lakenheath... which is 2hrs from london. I'm not gonna head to london every friday for the night just to play magic. I might just end up collecting if i can't find any players...
    next step...

    Teach wife to play.

    second step....

start collecting dual lands....to pay for my childrens college

Things I learned from watching the coverage this morning. One, the words summon legend still invoke the legendary rule. Two, apparently the people playing do not get to keep the cards from the ventige masters draft. Three, in an untimed round, playing for the tie if you are in a bad spot might be the best plan.

on the walgreen deal, wal-mart price matched me, but would only do the 2for1 on core 2015 cause "thats what the picture shows"

Target here wouldn't match me because it's a "with card" deal; Walmart wouldn't match because it "doesn't list the price on the ad; even for BOGO it has to list the regular item price". I brought a Walgreens receipt in too and apparently that didn't matter.

Yeah, i managed to get the deal price matched at fred meyer last year and honestly its just too much of a hassle going to different stores for a price that is slightly better then what you can get buying a cheap booster box online.

yeah, booster boxes are they way to go it seems. i dunno if ill buy boxes until i have playsets (i.e. 4x of each card) of each set thats in standard, or just purchase what i lack currently... have to take a few hours and number crunch cost analysis, vs. odds, while factoring in chance at duplicates for trade value. lesson learned though... 17yrs later unfortunatley.... god damn i wish i had my dual lands....

I'll save you the trouble. It's almost always cheaper to flat out buy the singles if you're looking to get specific cards. Magic cards have print runs produced in sheets, so each pack isn't independently randomized. It's pretty much impossible to get a playset of any one rare in a single box and the expected value of opening a pack is almost always less than the cost of the pack itself (this isn't always true).

Those of us who played years ago and came back have all gone through the pain of seeing the values of our old cards in present day. I myself had playsets of duals plus 3 moxes that I sold for money in college, a tabernacle that I ripped up on a bet back when it was $15, a bazaar etc etc. Thankfully I kept my wastelands since they were literally draft trash for many many years.

    Magic: The Gathering

Picked up another 12 khans packs at a local Walgreens; managed to break even this time but breaking even AFTER the BOGO is totally not what I was looking for.

28 Khans boosters from Walgreens later and I've yet to see a Fetch. YMMV but yeah. I pulled a Phoenix, two Swiftspears, Bloodsoak, Jeskai Ascend, tons of Triple Lands, and some other garbage from the packs today. I think I have like 8 Necropolis Fiends now. Terrible.

I don't think I'll be buying anymore from there. Probably the Gift Boxes and boosters from Boxes only.

Note: I really can't complain as I have a full playset of Fetch Lands sooooooooo

full set meaning one of each or 4 of each?

got a holiday box while i was upstate seeing friends, i wanted a fatpack but the guy at the counter said they stopped making them for this set. odd considering i can find them on amazon and locally here. my brother in law said that dude didn't know what he was talking about.

only thing notable i pulled out of the box was a planeswalker, sarkhan the dragonspeaker.

Hmm. I think he maybe meant they're sold out and they aren't producing any more to ship to them

I have a full set (4) of each Fetch land from KTK. Bought way too much product of it but if I sold it all I'd profit.

Visiting family right now in a new area. Went to walmart for a few groceries, realized this walmart has Mind Seize and the new White commander deck in stock. I don't know which one to buy or if I should buy either. I really want them both but I don't ever get to play anymore so I don't know if it is worth the money.

Denmark crushed Greece for the World Cup. I look forward to seeing Whip being slathered everywhere.

Modern Masters 2: Electric Boogaloo confirmed and out May 22nd.

If you're looking only for Containment Priests, buying singles is better.
If you're looking for a mono-white EDH base, it's there but it's not exactly good.

If you've never cared about EDH before and you're looking for a starting point, it's not a bad buy right now. You could take the Priest out, sell it for like 25-28, and the rest of the deck would only cost you 7-10 bucks.

Mind Seize, still not awful, same things apply but with True Name Genesis instead.

    ... I hate mono-EDH btw.

I watched some Vintage and Legacy not too long ago and it was amazing how I saw not a single containment priest, yet maybe 1 or 2 decks that would get wrecked by it. It's amazing when just the fear of a card will have a definite impact on the meta.

Also wow MMA2. $10/pack rip wallet

I do like EDH and play it a lot I also play legacy. I don't play mono colored EDH but I would definitely rip the deck apart and turn it into something else. Also I am super excited about MM2015 I hope I get to go to Vegas this time for the GP.
