I too am also getting the resounding "meh" vibe off this set. There just doesnt seem like anything new, broken, or exciting like KTK had. I feel like its going to be a repeat of Gatecrash but without actual good cards (Shocklands). At least that is how i feel.

yeah the closer it gets to release the less inclined i feel to grab a box or a clutch of packs. i guess having lost all interest in building a standard deck probably helps to temper the compulsion though. if i'm gonna gamble with packs, i'd much rather plow that money into MM2 and the fall zendikar set where i have a much better chance of retaining value over the long term.

I'm primarily a drafter and don't play EDH and have only cube drafted a handful of times. This difference in outlook is probably why we have very differing opinions.

The draft format has gone from an environment where 3 color decks were the norm and 5 color decks were not unheard of. It looks like the format is moving back towards your "normal" 2 color allied pair format where dragons are extremely pushed. Obviously we'll find out in a week or two, but these are just my initial impressions.

You have to remember that DTK is a standalone set because of the way they are changing block. So this set is going to be a little bit weird.

With Khans lands in the land slot of FRF there can still be wiggle room for multi color decks but who knows what will be opened and passed around in that last pack. Also, I don't view moving from all multicolor decks towards mono/2 color as strictly a negative move. Different packs, different draft format.

personally i really liked the multicolor phase but there's something to be said for never having a dozen lands of the wrong color

Does anyone have any theories on the print run for MM2015? Anyone think this time a lasting impact on the price of Tarmogoyf will be made? I would be happy to see 'goyf in the $50-60 range instead of the $200 range.

Modern is about to get easier to get into with zendikar fetches most likely getting reprinted goyf might fall off for a little bit but I wouldn't be surprised to see him top $300 in about a year. That's pending a standard reprint or a functional reprint.

Standard reprint? Whahaha, not now not ever.

Then again R&D let a functional reprint of Ancestral Recall slip through so anything is possible.

Absolutely no way they'd ever let 8 goyfs playable in eternal formats. They wont reprint goyf in a standard environment. Their best bet is to do another MM event deck thing with him in it, but there's just way too much trouble with selling a 75$ deck with a 225$ card. A MM set every so often with him in it is most likely what they'll do.

I'm assuming that MMA2015 won't be as scarce as the original MMA. The whole point of these reprints is to make Modern more accessible while avoiding a Chronicles part 2. MMA was a testing the waters kind of thing, and it kindled enough interest in the format without messing with the secondary market since it actually had the opposite effect. I wouldn't be surprised if Wizards gets a bit more liberal with the supply.

I'm tempted to sell my goys and fetches and pick them back up when MMA/BfZ release.

I just don't see why he has to be mythic - would goyf be so game breaking in limited at rare?

I don't really even see the point of MMA if they drastically increase the box/pack prices. Yes, it gets some more of the harder-to-find cards into the population, but when you out price the average player in terms of box pricing, you aren't doing people any favors. It gets even worse when you print less of them.

Anyway, picking up some Japanese boxes of product next week in Tokyo :D

Certain cards are printed at mythic because of their limited power level. Certain cards are printed at mythic in order to sell the set. Guess which one Goyf is?

Goyf is actually pretty weak in limited. Most of the time it's just a 2/3 and by the time it grows to a 3/4 or a 4/5 it's not that hard to deal with.

Yeah 'goyf at mythic is purely to prevent his price from tanking and to sell the set more. It isn't really because of limited. I do think that MMA2015 will be less scarce in supply than the first MMA set. It will be interesting to see what happens with 'goyf since this is the second reprint.

Short term, it will go down. Long term, not a damn thing. Like I said, they out price their common player who is broke males.

So what's everyone going to pick that the pre-release tonight/this weekend? Also who is going to Vegas in a few months?
