Bring several filled water bottles. Going for 10 rounds in a crammed room makes dehydration a real thing and lines for water sources are often hell and I have no interest in getting herpes because some guy decided to suck on the spout. I've literally had a fat fuck with cheeto dust fingers shuffle my deck and before the match started called over a judged because I had a marked deck. Took fast words to fix and was given five minutes to resleeve and present while said fat fuck went and washed his hands.

That is very good advise. I hate people with greasy hands that are playing pisses me off. Go wash your hands in between rounds/games. I will bring some wipes I have plenty because of my son. Also I always bring plenty of snacks and water.

2W-3L in legacy again, but my first round victory was against a massive douche that was running a pretty slick 12-post list, which more than made up for the FoW/containment priest/grafdigger-backed blowout losses. it was gratifying enough to revel in his sheer disgust at having lost to me immediately after the match, but after learning that he didn't make the cut to top 4 because of the loss i gave him, it really solidified that round as one of my favorite matches i've played to date.

i have a cheap little reanimator. no countermagic backup or SnT fall-back, so it tends to fold pretty hard in my meta which from what i've seen so far has maybe two other decks that aren't in blue.

i'd like to work in blue eventually, but the $1200 for sets of u.seas and forces is definitely outside of my budget right now, lol. i considered shocklands as a cheap alternative, but i tend to be taxed on life pretty hard already due to reanimate, and the necessary fetches just make it even worse. factor in needing to rely on daze and it really isn't workable. so for now, i stick to a strictly basic landbase, which at least renders the 5 million wastelands in my meta useless against me.

the painter and children are very recent additions -- those buried alives used to be in the main but they almost always wind up as dead cards.

managed to lock up a few games with painter+iona, but so far i haven't had any luck with getting the griselbrand + children loop to fire outside of testing. i've thought about finding another card to cut somewhere to add in a shuffle trigger just to be able to go infinite with that, but the only ones i can think of offhand are all 100% dead draws outside of that loop.

I have a mono black legacy Reanimator lying around as well for the same reason you mentioned about money. Stupid how much the price of a deck goes up in legacy for just touching blue.

my original list ran jin, but my experience with him in a real-deal legacy environment left me underwhelmed. the problem was, he never actually stuck around long enough to rip someone's hand out. the best i got out of him was 7 cards and then he'd wind up bounced or exiled once my opponent untapped; and he's the hardest hit for reanimate in the list at 10CMC as well.

i swapped him out for sire instead and had much better results. won a couple of games with him, as if he gets out early, your opponent has a negligible board in topdeck mode against a 6/4 (and you're likely dumping most of your hand for a t1/t2 reanimate anyway, so you don't miss much). definitely not fun to try and claw back against, heh.

oh i meant like ~200 each for lands in bad-but-playable condition + ~100 each for forces, so 1200ish for the full set of bare-minimum cards to make the blue side playable in reanimator.

but of course, that doesn't include the extra 200-300 for a set of show and tells to duck the 5 million pieces of graveyard hate that have been printed over the years.

and yeah, sadly i know all about the prices of duals back in the early 2000s. i sold the massive stack (at least 2 playsets of everything) i used to own back then for next to nothing

Shit I wouldn't even worry about graveyard hate in some situations. Containment Priest is one of the rudest cards I've ever seen for how fast it can completely shit on so many deck archetypes.

I also have a Death and Taxes deck and that card instantly kills entire decks if it hits the board, especially if Mother of Runes makes it out to guard against removal.

yeah, to be honest, the priest gave me more trouble in post-board matches than any other kind of hate. it's horrific versus reanimator, since it neutralizes reanimate while still letting it resolve. eating 9 damage from an iona that doesn't get to make it onto the board is about as demoralizing as it gets.

Jin-Gitaxias was made obsolete by Griselbrand since he hits harder, has evasion and protects himself since you can draw 7 card immediately. If the opponent somehow removes Jin-Gitaxias before your end step, you get no value off of him.

Sounds like you're fighting an uphill battle. :/ Reanimator was pretty much pushed out of the format once Deathrite Shaman became a Legacy staple.

Ehhhh.. Not particularly impressed with Modern Masters this time around. Seems like a lot of nuts & bolts cards (Serum Visions, IOK, various lands like Grove, Canopy or the LOW/MOR filters) are left out. Path to Exile isn't in either, but at least that's getting a reprint as a FNM promo soon.

Path to Exile has been printed 6 different times already. As big of a staple as it is for Modern there's enough already floating around.

Well, whatever I lose from Elesh/Iona reprints should be more than made up for by the Inkmoth spike if it holds up, lol. They seem pretty reluctant to put infect in anything, so it seems safe to assume that probably won't see a reprint for a while.

Much less enthused about opening the set overall after the full spoiler though, so much bulk trash. Definitely a fair few cards I want to get my hands on, but I'll probably just grab a few packs for fun and scoop what singles I need once prices settle.
