So, at my Local standard.

I play a well known asshole. Game 1

Turn 3, he has two Fleecemane Lions out.
My turn 3, I play a land then wait till his turn
His Turn 4. After he says "Draw" I bile Blight his two lions

He loses his shit on me about how only scrubs play Bile Blight and that it hasn't been played in 6 months. When, its one of the best crowd control for standard right now.

He quit and left after that

man, your local scene just sucks apparently, this seems like a weekly occurrence.

people at my store are generally pretty friendly. i've had one person act explicitly rude toward me and he became much friendlier after i beat him a few times. the worst outside of that are people who just tend to lack social/conversational skills and even then they're in the minority.

I play standard at a more noobish store and modern at a more established store but the city is full of asshole magic players.

I'll never forget during a pptq and this one guy is getting mad at his opponent for thinking too long during his turns. The guy was newish. Pretty sure it was his first tourney.

So angry guy, while a judge is watching, leans over the table. Taps his creatures, says "you attack me and pass your turn". Judge does nothing. Haven't seen that new guy since

Yeah, Magic draws in some cool people. It also draws in some people who are the absolute scum of the earth who have no idea how to interact with other human beings.

We have this one guy at a shop in the next county who people couldn't stand who, after having numerous complaints about him, makes a post on the group's facebook page trying to explain his behavior because of some kind of brain mold from his air conditioner. I shit you not. Of course people just called him out on it because of how ridiculous it sounded.

So I get paired up against him today in round 2 of a draft with an absolute train wreck of a deck. Here it is for reference:



So, of course, he starts doing the "I can't believe you're playing that garbage" talk when he sees the turn 2 Maritime Guard. Then I suit it up with Grasp of the Heiromancer and equip a throwing knife and just keep getting in. He goes "I can't believe I'm wasting removal on this piece of shit" and tries to unholy hunger the guard, but runs it into Clash of Wills which gets another "your deck is bad" comment etc. I say Maritime Guard did work. "No it didn't." "I just beat you with it." "You beat me with Maritime Guard with an enchantment and a Throwing Knife." "Yeah, but Maritime Guard wore all the stuff. I just beat you by attacking you with a Maritime Guard."

Game 2 he rolls over me.

Game 3 I beat him with 6 CMC 3/3 flier that I can't read because of glare in my picture and don't know its name because I've never played in a draft deck prior to today and Scrapskin Drake.

After the game I get up and walk one table over to some people and they ask how I do. I said as loud as possible "My shitty deck beat the guy with brain mold.". In the finals my opponent offered me the split and I snap took it. My deck really was a pile of shit.

Not a bad deck sans the lack of more than 1 removal, but the tempo of the deck feels right. Kytheon's Irregulars is SO good in draft, and people underrate how good Flying is in draft. U/W flyers is an archetype in every draft format almost always.

Blue is just really bad in this format. Irregulars is certainly a bomb and can win games, but I'd rather go for overall card quality than relying heavily on a bomb.

I do draft a lot, and I'd say that a lot of my wins come from being able to read the seat well in terms of signaling over technical play. I'll be the first to say that I'm not the best player lol.

The problem with this deck is the guy to my left opened a Chandra, so I left red open. I opened the Irregulars P1P1 and it became clear that white was being cut upstream, but I decided that the Irregulars was strong enough to force white and hope for a good P2. The guy to my right also sent me a Wild Instincts and a Leaf Gilder so I tried to go green, but then he started scooping up green at some point when he picked up the WG Vigilance guy.

At this point I had already passed a Jhessian Thief and a Claustrophobia because I don't like blue at all in this format, but switched into it when he sent me a Voidmage. The guy 2 seats to my left was also in UW so I ended up getting cut on both sides.

I usually draft much better decks lol. This is my deck from FNM.

It's in a private group, but here are some screenshots. If he was inhaling mold and it affected his lungs, I certainly hope he gets treated for that. Saying it's in his brain and that's the reason he acts like a dick is another story.

mold exposure can certainly cause a host of health issues. i don't think neurological changes/damage caused by mycotoxins have really been studied well, let alone any specific behavioral/psychopathological implications that could potentially arise as a result. dude is full of shit in a very hilarious way.

I am so dumb sometimes - I just right clicked on the part where he posted his scripts and opened in new tab... and of course it was just the whole screen cap. It's probably black mold that also causes me to try scrolling around a base and opening chat while watching youtube videos of clash of clans.

BFZ has the first creature printed in quite a while that's potentially playable in reanimator which is good news for me. i might grab a winnower for sideboard use if storm ever picks up in my meta, but that's about the only card i care about. i will probably buy a box just for a shot at an expedition, but i'm going in with the expectation that i'm going to end up with nothing but garbage.

This set does look terrible for standard, time will tell for other formats. Though limited looks fun and that is all I care about right now. Bonus if one of the cards proves to be useful in modern or legacy.

Siege Rhino.deck will still reign supreme in standard, most likely. Esper/Esper Dragons will be a close second.

Get a time machine and go back in time to the beginning of summer. This is always the best time to sell out of standard.

Barring that, the usual eBay and big store buylists.

Good maybe the value of seige rhino will go up and I can finally cash in on the ones I have saved.

Siege rhino suffers from the same thing that will probably affect bfz. Tons of khans were opened to get fetches, so the non fetch rares are cheap because of high supply.
