Round 2 vs BUG Fish 1-2 because I punted game 3 with Tinker. I went for the combo instead of the safe route with Blightsteel and got blown out by Decay that I spaced on.

Had a lot of fun though!

Edit: We had 47 players sign up for sanctioned Vintage which was awesome.
Vintage looks so sweet, but there's the whole Power 9 and nobody plays the format thing.

I really, really really wish magic online just let you pay like $40 a month to access 1-4 if every card. Vintage and legacy queues would fire like crazy and be so fucking fun.

i haven't seen all of the coverage today, but dear god they've had some boring choices for deck techs that i've seen so far. storm and miracles? cmon now, surely at a legacy GP they can dig up something more interesting than those.

Half of it is hoping to find a good/interesting decklist. The other half is hoping the player isn't a raging autist with a severe nerd slurp.

well, nice to see a reanimator list made top 4. i've never been terribly interested in the 4C build as it's a bit slow compared to the traditional lists, but apparently it's pretty solid!

his semifinals match against christian calcano on grixis delver was brutal to watch though, it went like pretty much every match i've ever had against the various flavors of delver. slamming your face into nothing but mainboard hate/countermagic/wastelands for 2 straight games has to be the most miserable way to lose a match.

Couple infect in top 32 is nice to see -
Aluren looks fun but that Imperial Recruiter commitment is pretty specific. Not like you can fake it with a shock land until you upgrade

This was a terrible weekend for me when it came to playing magic.

    Friday:
    Vintage: 0-2 drop with Painter

    Saturday:
2-2 drop in the main event with Miracles.
    Round 1: Bye.
    Round 2 vs Jund 1-2
Round 3 vs Death and Taxes 2-1
Round 4 vs RUG Delver 1-2

I could have kept going, but I didn't feel like trying to grind out 5 wins in a row with Miracles just to make Day 2.

Vintage: 0-2 drop* with Painter (switched 2 cards for Flippy Jaces)

*On Friday they announced the start of each round over the loudspeaker. I expected them to do the same. After round 1, a friend and I went downstairs so I could refill my water bottle. We came back up and checked the pairings board - still round 1. We go sit at the booth my friend is running (in the main room). After awhile I say to my friend that this round is taking forever and I go check the pairings board. Round 2 went up like 3 mins ago. Guess we missed the announcement, we made it in time though. After round 2 we go sit at the booth again. We never leave the main room and listen carefully to each overhead announcement. Again I wonder why this is taking so long. I go check and the pairings went up almost 15mins prior to checking. We rush over and find out we got losses and were dropped from the tournament. We were pissed. I later find out from another friend in the tournament that the only announcement they did was at the group of tables for the event and it was just the judge saying so. Meaning that we basically couldn't leave that area unless we took note of the time the round ended and kept checking the clock every few minutes out of paranoia.

    Sunday:
    Vintage: 1-2 drop with Oath
    Round 1 vs MUD: 2-0
Round 2 vs Salvager Oath (Brian Kelly's deck): 0-2
Round 3 vs Mentor: 0-2 Game 2 my hand has 2x Oath, 2x Show and Tell, Griselbrand, Force and maybe another card. I finally get a 2nd land to cast Oath. he Forces, I Force and he Forces back. No problem, I'll do it again next turn. He Wastes my Trop. I just need another green source or 2 mana for SnT and I'm good. I never draw another mana source after like 5 turns.

Legacy: 0-1 drop with Dragon Stompy

When they do pairings for round 1 they put us at the same tables the current Vintage round was at so they ended up having to redo them. And when they put up those first pairings, there was no announcement over the loudspeaker and the judge that put up the pairings said that legacy pairings were up in a normal voice as he walked back towards the judge table. If you weren't there and trying to hear it, you wouldn't have heard it. Thankfully when they did the repairing they did an overhead announcement.

Round 1 vs Burn: Turn 1 Trinisphere seems good. Except I can't find anything to deal with the Goblin Guide he cast Turn 1 on the play. 3x Chalice + Trinisphere stopped just about everything else though. Game 2 was Trinisphere + 2 Thunderbreak Regents. Game 3 I didn't mulligan aggressively enough. I did get to Pyrokinesis a Goblin Guide and Eidolon though. By the time I died I was 2 mana away from being able to hardcast Emrakul. I dropped because I just didn't feel like playing Magic anymore after the way the weekend had went.

Aside from the above I had a good time. Got to see a lot of friends I don't get to see outside of big events, met some Twitter friends and picked up some cards I wanted including 4x Korean Snapcaster Mage & 2x Japanese Council's Judgment.

Does anyone here trade online? Trying to pick up some stuff for my EDH decks. Can trade over Pojo, MTG Salvation, or Deckbox. Attached my Deckbox wishlist below. Tradelist is on the right, if you're unfamiliar with the site.

Damn tomiko, sorry you had such a bad time. =/ getting a match loss due to not knowing the round starts is the worst.

wait what, something interesting coming to standard?! given the past several sets, i can only assume these will turn out to be well-produced fakes.

I think the basic land Waste confirms it as real, but if not, props to whoever made the best fakes in history.

My guess: The <> can only be paid with <> or strictly colorless mana. This would make painlands extremely better, IF they actually print enough good/usable constructed cards requiring <>.

    ...

    Hint: They won't.

Twitter page down already. Whats with the weird mana symbol? Is that a placeholder? Or something new?

It's a new colorless only mana requirement.

That is really cool. I love alternative mana types like hybrid and phyrexian. I think this could open up some really fun design space. I just hope they utilize it enough. Though initially it does seem like it is just a mechanism to slow the game down by creating a more narrow mana type. Phyrexian mana and hybrid mana gave you options while this looks like it makes requirements for a more specialized mana base.

Read this article yesterday. Some interesting insight in there. I might have to pick up my steamflogger boss' now before they become playable in modern.
