Remand is also slightly better than mana leak for forcing a combo through. Just as easy to cast, but it's a hard counter. And if you're gonna win once your combo resolves it doesn't matter that their counterspell went back to their hand.

Edit: forgot to mention the obvious fact that many combo decks can't afford the blue cards needed to make FoW work, but can splash for remand.

Anyone ever use Massdrop to purchase sealed product? Seems like a good deal. You can snag booster boxes for ~$85ish from various sets at different times. I was thinking of trying them out. They have a Modern Masters 2015 booster box drop going on right now I think the price is $180ish which isn't too bad either.

from what i've read, the prices are good but they're very slow to ship. something like 1-2 months i think?

for comparison's sake, CFB sells sealed boxes of everything (excluding MM15 of course) from the last couple of years for $85 or less and i assume they ship immediately.

Went 1-2-1 drop at the SCG Open over the weekend. I shouldn't have dropped, but didn't realize that I was still live for Day 2.

I then entered the Legacy Challenge side event because I wanted to play more games of Legacy. I went 2-1 and in the final round I got the pair down from a 3-0 and he asked to draw, so I said sure. Turns out 2-1-1 only gets 6 packs, so I basically paid $20 for 6 packs. I could have gotten 7 packs for $20 at my LGS lol.

Damn, that sucks on dropping from the main event prematurely. What did you play?

Just thinking about Legacy with paywalls gives me heartburn. Having a 2k deck competing in an extremely technical format earn 1% value is terrible. Assuming the packs even paid out if opened.

+5 points if you had Cheeri0s sleeved up. Hilariously fun times.

BUG Delver with Stifles instead of Hymns. The northeast US has a ton of Miracles and combo.

I honestly just really enjoy the format, but I got in when the price of everything was much much cheaper.

Why not play stifles and hymns? I do in my BUG Delver list. Though I am dismantling that deck in favor of Grixis Delver since I have not been able to procure a playset of 'goyfs.

meta call against lands/loam decks? i could see hymn being tough to support in a wasteland-heavy crowd where even if you can cast it, a lot of the stuff you hit is going to wind up getting recurred anyway.

on the other hand, stifle is pretty much never a dead card when even monocolored decks run fetchlands to load up on shuffle effects (or landfall triggers for burn). seems like an easy 4-of if you're expecting a storm-heavy meta as well.

IMO the problem with running both Stifle and Hymn is Stifle is reactive (leave mana up) and Hymn is proactive (tapping out). The more proactive version of BUG also runs Liliana, so you're typically running a Bayou or two in your manabase which makes Daze worse. I find this version more similar to Jund where you're trying to grind the opponent out. The pure Stifle version curves much lower and is trying to close the game out before the opponent can mount any sort of significant plays.

I can concur with this. My personal edge towards Stifle though is being able to 100% represent which can tilt and kill confidence especially if you're matched repeatedly. Nothing better then Time Walking aggro on T2 with just a fingering of a US and staring at their fetch.

Actually one better was a ragescoop from Flsh Hulk trying to go off T1 because I bounced US for a Daze to counter a Moxen while declaring I also tapped for U and Stifled Hulk because they never skipped phase.

Kozilek and the new colorless symbol confirmed by Wizards in case anyone was still in doubt.

They are making a promo version of Stoneforge Mystic. Do you guys think that it could be unbanned in Modern at some point? Might be time to pick up two more to finish my playset before their value goes way up.

I'm one of the few people at my LGS who feel that SFM might be unbanned. Jitte would be a real problem, but it's still banned. I just don't think Batterskull is that oppressive when the format is full of goyfs, bolts and kolaghan's commands.

It wont be so hard to do, considering the blighted land cycle will produce it, hedron archive, kozi's channeler and every single eldrazi scion. Thatis not including whatever is in oath either.

Oh man, I had completely forgotten how hilariously soul crushing Lantern Control is in Modern.
