Modern was fucking awesome around the tail end of the Innistrad block until Birthing Pod proceeded to annihilate everything in its path. At which it devolved into its current state.

i have zero interest in modern, but i've considered converting my budget G infect into something modern-playable. mostly because the money cards i still need to finish it would port to legacy infect, and i'll wind up getting trops at some point in the next year or so anyway.

but yeah i have a tough time getting excited about a format where even preordain is considered too OP to allow

what's lantern control all about though? is that like the modern equivalent of miracles except it actually sucks?

It's a No-Fun-Allowed prison deck. Locks with Ensnaring Bridge and various dickery with a wincon by milling and Ghirapur AEther Grid. It's a pure dick deck that does a good job of breaking early rounders but does come up short of finishing high due to draws.

I openly admit I get my jollies from decks like this and since Modern is such a fucking trash format I'll probably start reattending the format and get my dick kicks in with this and/or Infect.

I still need to pick up Glimmervoids and Blackcleave Cliffs before I can play the deck. hate the prices on those cards though.

It mostly comes down if the other player wants to play their 0.1% outs and the potentially slow speed of milling. Black is playing it in Vegas and I last saw 5-0 and took Infect in near perfect form.

after reading your description i decided i had to check out some footage of the deck in action. as much as i don't care for modern, i do love hilarious decks and ruining peoples day; probably my favorite play in legacy is a turn 1 sire of insanity. there's one guy at my LGS that's still salty about being on the receiving end of that, one time, 6 months ago, lol.

i've already got the bridges/discard suite/decays, i might throw the rest together after xmas for shits and giggles.

The deck is seriously not fun to play with or against. The only reason you'd ever want to play it is if you have a meta full of not-burn and want to spike a tournament before people adjust.

Eh, its Unified Standard. So as nice as it is to say "Lets play Abzan Aggro, Esper, and Jeskai Black," there would be so much overlap that theyd all be watered down versions of their dominant selves. Generally in Unified Standard you see two main-stream, powered up decks and then one throw away that doesnt have any overlap. If they felt Landfall was well positioned in their testing, wouldn't be that critical of it.

The only time I ever played against that deck (Burning Reanimator) I tilted. Not because of the Turn 1 Sire, but because the guy playing it didn't know wtf he was doing and didn't keep track of anything. For game 2 he had to look at my notes when I asked him what his life total or something was.

Nothing tilts me more than netdeckers that have no idea how to play their deck.

also very interested in sphinx of the final word. could be really nice versus miracles, dodges STP and allows you to have a chance to stick a second creature/counter terminus.
