Saw this on TCG website today.

Not sure if this is going to make that big of a difference. Interesting response though.

psychologically, the idea is probably that seeing a huge delta between the market and list prices might make people less prone to pulling the trigger. could put a dent in the resillience of price hikes after a buyout, making the tactic less effective. if that holds true though, merchants could just engage in high-volume sham buys to inflate the market price. potentially helpful, probably not harmful, but maybe still prone to gaming.

the main question i guess is whether or not the listing/transaction fees on TCG are sufficiently high to suppress that kind of behavior.

Yeah the only effect I could see this having on these huge buyouts is it will slow their ability to jack up the prices. It won't stop the behavior or effect though.

I wish all the websites would list their buylist price next to the purchase price though would be so helpful during trades and private party purchases. That feature is pretty sweet.

Anyone going to Comic con this week that I could give money to pick up a promo set?

Damn I was going to ask the same thing. I am interested as well if it is possible.

Edit: By the way anyone play in the prereleases this past weekend? I missed them but I am going to try to go to the release day sealed at my LGS. The set looks pretty fun overall.

I think those work off a raffle system alot of the more high demand stuff does these days, so no guarantees.

And those things are generally limited to one per person.

Edit : nvm not a raffle, just super limited supply each day. He says he'll try tonight for preview night.

Yeah, just let him know I would like one if he can scoop it up. I'll toss him extra $ and pay shipping, of course.

I did and went 2-1. Identity Thief for my PR foil and opened another in my first EMN pack. I made up for it in the other packs though pulling a Bedlam Reveler, Spell Queller, Emrakul and Docent of Perfection. Pulled an Eldritch Evolution in one of my prize packs, so I made out pretty well, especially since I needed some of those for Cube and EDH.

Edit: My loss was to a guy that had the common set of Meld cards. both games I got my ass handed to me by that thing. I thought one of them was Uncommon, but nope.

Went 3-0 in the midnight release (4 color with tamiyo and ulrich)
3-1 the next day, one loss to a mull to 4 due to no land/thenall land, all land, then nothing playable. rest were wins, thalia's lancers did work
3-0 on sunday (Best win was copying a 3/4 lifelink with altered ego making it an 8/9 lifelink and he couldnt remove it, went from 5 hp to 42 by the end of the game) all my win packs were trash, aside from the tamiyo/ulrich pack in the initial pre-release.

A bit late, but I pretty much never play paper magic anymore and had to wait for ENM to come out on MODO. I went 4-1 in a prerelease sealed league. Having a pool with 5 rares in 2 colors and 6 pieces of removal is never a bad thing. Red seems really strong in the new limited format.

What're the odds that the new Liliana's price tanks after it rotates out of standard? I want to try it out for my janky Mardu deck in Modern, but not at $40 each.

i'd say the odds are roughly 100%. in not-standard formats, she's competing with LotV and that doesn't seem like much of a contest.

For GP Portland I'm in a three way tie for deck choice. Safe and easy Bant Company, risk it for a biscuit Abzan Control, or whacky wavy Tentacle Romance.

Bant comp is the best deck by miles.

bant co is going to give you a ton of mirror matches and people having side/mainboard cards dedicated to beating your deck though

So you just need to win 1/2 sideboarded games against non-mirrors. Just look at the day 2 results from this weekend:

    Day 2:

    Bant Co - 53
    Next deck - 9

CoCo needs to be banned just to make the format interesting. Those numbers are worse than Eldrazi modern.

Somewhat misleading, cuz while yes, it represented a large section of the day 2 meta, it was "only" 42%. Go back to RTR/Theros standard where top 16s were 10 Mono-black, 5 Mono-blue, and 1 U/W Control, the deck is not ridiculously oppressive and can be beaten. Company rotates in 3 months when the next degenerate deck will pop up and be a large % of the day 2 meta, its nothing but a vicious cycle.
