I'm a little confused by that article. The inventions cards will be legal for limited and for any set they were already legal in? So a card like Crucible of Worlds wouldn't be legal in standard constructed? Have I got that right?

Yes, legal in the formats the cards are currently legal in or for drafts, but not in standard.

Essentially giving Power 25 to drafters, milking EDH blingwhores, Standard enjoying overall lower card prices from all the box crackers chasing money cards, and doing nothing to increase the access of Modern and Legacy (mostly) playables. Sure reprints will in theory improve supply but the pricepoint will be magnitudes higher than originals.

Just Hasbro putting more screws on wotc to increase profits. At least the art is nice and who knows this may somehow tease some more revisions on the Reserved List. Never gonna get actual duals or Tabernacle but simple and fun tweaks to swirl Legacy meta around is a good thing.

I wish there were an option to get the new art without the foiling. There's sweet art in there but I don't want it attached to a card that's going to warp. Also the art looks better without the shiny effects a good 50% of the time.

That said, more dumb chase cards aren't going to get me back into Standard any time soon.

The main point of these is to sell more packs which pushes the value of all the other cards down which helps make staying competitive in Standard cheaper. I think this is a great idea actually. Sure it doesn't solve all issues (modern and legacy accessibility) but it sure does solve some other issues in a good way.

Expeditions/Masterpieces is one of the best moves they have ever made for many reasons:

1. More packs will be opened = more profits = happy stockholders
2. People complaining about the price of standard will decrease
3. Packs will actually be fun to open and win for prize support (always the chance of that $300 bill being in it...even 20 year veterans will be excited if they open a foil Mana Crypt...)
4. Unopened product will retain value long term

Unlike Battle for Zendikar, Kaladesh looks to be an actual good set with actual good cards, outside of the Premium Masterpiece cards.

Well, they have officially said "fuck blue". One of the worst Counterspells ever printed:

As part of the cost, return a permanent you control to owner's hand. Counter target spell.

And before anyone says "but ETB triggers!", let me stop you. This is strictly awful.

when was the last time they actually printed good countermagic? i'm struggling to think of any examples that have been in new sets since i picked the game back up, and that was almost 2.5 years ago.

The last time they reprinted Mana Leak in standard. That was like 4-5 years ago?
