Jesus, generally they at least offer some kind of variance to make a new version not be worse in every way, but there's no defending that against Mana Leak.

It'll see play in standard but is obviously completely worthless in every other constructed format, which I guess is the point.

For a set where they're trying to push artifacts, adding a conditional counter that doesn't work on them that's already worse then mana leak seems dumb. Pick one or the other.

Pulled a Noxious Gearhulk Masterpiece at the prerelease today. Masterpieces look nicer than I thought they would.

I did a Pre-release. Pulled two planeswalkers(Doven was the one I used) in my pool. Ran a white/blue deck. Managed to get 3rd. Got mana screwed on both games in Semi finales. Won, 20 packs. Got a lot of okay stuff. Had Smugglers Copter, Masterwork Tinkerer, Doven w/e, and some other really good shit.


Some little kid pulled a Master piece Mox Opal and said he didn't care about it.

Played it, in his deck, without sleeves, and was not gentle when he shuffled.

Okay, so quick few things
1- pulled another Masterpeice.
2 Traded new one and Lotus Petal for new standard Deck.

W/R Vehicles. Haven't played standard in a year, horribly rusty.

5k Tourney was today. I went 3/4. Not awful but not great.

In round 5, I played against a guy I've told you about. He's a real cunt bag when he plays me. He's playing teh W/U flash deck. I really had no chance in game 1.
game 2, I win
game 3. It was horribly dragged out but he won.

Now, as game three is going on. He's talking about how hes going to win and knock me out of the tourney. I just making jokes and having fun(Honestly, I had a blast today). The more I laughed and had fun, the angrier he got. At one point before he beat me. I looked at his arms and saw how tense they were. Then I looked on his face and wow. That was a face of beat me, physically, to near death. He was ANGRY.

And again, I'm smiling, and laughing, and even insulting my own play style. He won but I was happy. Afterword, I had went for lunch. I came back to people tell me that he was bragging that he beat me. Like, hardcore insane level bragging. Saying he (And this is a real quote) "ungloved fisted me hard that I scooped".

And no one really cared what he said which made it awesome. He's an asshole but he is the better player. I am known for being like a 40-50% win rate. I know I'm not great and so does everyone else. So him going around say how bad he beat me made nearly everyone ignore him. Felt good.


Tomorrow is Modern. Infect is update and ready to go. I have 4 judges look over my deck so that same guy can't say I'm cheating. I've replaced the sleeves and the perfect fits. I've pre-written out my deck list and have had 3 people look over the list, and 2 different people look over my deck.

I will admit, I fucking hate the lengths I have to go through so assholes won't try and do their DQ wins on me again. And I'm so fed up with it, if it happens tomorrow. I'm calling judge for unsportsman conduct or w/e.

win or lose, one of the most fun aspects of tournament MTG is just triggering the shit out of the hardcore autists this game attracts. doing it on a fluke win in an unfavorable matchup is the most gratifying for sure, but if you can manage to get under their skin to that degree, it really doesn't matter what goes on the match slip tbh.

Topdecking gets a few of them, doing a complex level of digging gets a few more, and doing a T1 charbelcher wombo combo gets a lot. There are rumors of the unicorn matching of some tryhard dude's powered vintage deck pink slipping against Hulk not knowing how Hulk worked and losing in front of a crowd. Just the thought of a turn 0 kill against a 25k deck made my dick jump.

Is there any sizable Legacy in your area, Myrrh? If so I really recommend becoming a friend of that group. Watch matches, ask about sequencing routes, ask to borrow decks, take notes, etc. Legacy is like a goddamn Hyperbolic Time Chamber and if you can do 2-3 months of that you WILL come out a significantly better player. SCG's Twitch channel also has a deep archive of event coverage including Legacy so if your area sucks you can still squeeze together SCG +MODO + r/MTGLegacy + Legacy's Allure YT for a decent DIY primers.

Dude myrrh, is this one guy that always gives you trouble or is it different people? I gotta ask because you come back with a lot of bad beats stories and that's just not normal. I used to travel a lot for Legacy tournaments, and it was rare if I had one of these types of experiences a year. Maybe you live in some kind of MTG asshole capital of the world or something?

Yeah, I've mentioned this dude before and Winnipeg has a real shit player base when it comes to magic attitude. Majority of the players will only respect you if you're better than them at magic. Which is just fucking retarded.

And Winnipeg had legacy group but it was head up by the guy who I always tell stories about. Legacy in Winnipeg isn't a thing anymore lol

"better than them" is such a shit metric. Too many different decks, formats, and metas to measure someone's ability. Shitting on casuals is bad enough but measuring experienced players against your own dick is truly toxic.

I might be a heartless asshole bent on crushing someone's soul during the match but between rounds or post-match I love doing feedback responses because there's always somebody that knows a fuckton more than you about a thing and people that love learning how to be a better player than they were 55 minutes ago.

Lol, I had a guy try to fuck with me round 1 of a PPTQ 2 weekends ago. He cast Elder Deep-Fiend at the end of his turn and I had 3 mana open. He had 2 Kozilek's return in his yard and whatever the land is that you can sack. He plays it, goes "trigger trigger trigger (so 3)", pointing at his yard twice (I couldn't even see which cards he was referring to since his yard was stacked, but I knew). In the same sentence, without stopping, he says I target those 3 lands and random creature. I said' Well no, I have responses before your cast trigger resolves. I'm tapping these 3 to float mana."

He calls a judge and tells me that I can't do that (lol). Also, he lies to the judge and tells him that he triggered his land (which he forgot, he only announced the cast trigger and the 2 K-returns). Judge rules in my favor, I cast To the Slaughter for the blowout.

Fast forward and I won another PPTQ.

He started complaining about how I was likely a "new player". I pointed at the projector on the wall that showed my 5 digit DCI number versus his like 10 digit one. Laughs were had all around.
