It is definitely slow, but Wizards did state it would definitely be a slow set in general. Too slow for Standard, but it might be good for Limited. It wouldn't be something I'd draft right away though.

I found this to be more appealing than any of those damn Eldrazi. With all the Eldrazi Spawn mana acceleration, it's not too far-fetched to dump something big like 7+ on X resulting in 7 7/7 Oozes to win it next turn.

There has yet to be a set where 16 mana wasn't far fetched.

Rise of the Eldrazi is focused on colorless mana acceleration. In this set's Limited, I don't think lasting until you can dump 13~15 mostly colorless mana out for 6 6/6s or 7 7/7s sounds impossible. Especially since you might do so just because you're not drawing your expensive Legendary Eldrazi you're waiting for. Gelatinous Genesis is a decent card to toss in there for when you're not drawing the big guys and you need 5 or 6 solid creatures right now.

I think Ulamog is the best of the legends just because he's indestructible. However, new Sarkhan seems pretty meh.

Sarkhan is definitely meh unless there's some kind of effect coming around in this block that places more counters of the same type on a permanent, a-la Gilder Bairn, which could make not only him useful, but a lot of those Level-Up creatures pretty awesome if it's affordable.

Then again, maybe Sarkhan has some synergistic dragons floating around in this set that we haven't seen that would make his -4 loyalty same-turn move devastating. I still don't like paying 5 for a planeswalker though.

The best thing I can think of for him right now is letting you get 8 off your broodmate while it's still summoning sick, but that's pretty lame for a planeswalker. I was trying to think of maybe some combo with predator dragon, but haven't come up with anything I liked.

I love the hydra. Definitely a 4-of for any deck that spits out a bunch of garbage plants/saprolings/squirrels, which are usually fun to play. Bestial Menace could work its way in there too.

Oh yeah, and I really want to put this on some ultra beefy enters-the-battlefield effect creature. Your broodmate would essentially have "Tap: place a 4/4 red Dragon creature with flying onto the battlefield." Hmm!

Splinter Twin on your Avenger of Zendikar would make soooo maaaany plaaaants. Perfect for growing Khalni Hydras. Or winning with a mass of Overrun'ning 3/4 plants.

New Planeswalker... ok, I guess... Unless you're up against something like Progenitus or flying dragons. Still, fuck 5-mana Planeswalkers. I'd still take Ajani Goldmane over this guy.

Ehhh, thinking about it, 5 mana for invincible 6/6 soldier every one of your turns isn't so bad for mono white weenie action. Still, I don't like him being susceptible to creature removal regardless of loyalty when he uses that ability. Actually, he should turn X/X where X is the loyalty currently on him. Booo~

5cc in a WW deck would be too high for my tastes. Only thing I could see him used in is a control deck. Wrath/Justice then swing for 6 with a clear board.

I already pre-ordered a box a few weeks ago. Set looks interesting so far but i'm glad i got mine for $85 before wizard sold out of first print boxes. Pre-orders in my local are now going for $95 though thats not so bad compared to some other stores nearby. This place called the Dragons Den normally sells boxes reguardless of pre-order or not for $125...and they are a much much larger store than anyone else and in a more populous area. In fact a bad night for a FNM there is like 30+ while the shop i go to on a good night barely gets 24.
