yeah, but 10 years ago it was new. now it's 10 years old and is still the best counter in the game (again, arguably - people do like their mana drain)

it is nuts how expensive it is though. it's nuts how expensive all the tournament staples are. you shouldn't need $500 to make a somewhat competitive deck (and you don't, but it's extremely difficult otherwise)

but hey, that's Legacy for you.

Mana Drain is even losing some popularity. I think the last I heard, Spell Pierce replaced it in the list of most played counters in Vintage (and possibly Legacy). I think only Force had more played.

And I agree about the cards being expensive, I'm currently working on regetting the lands (full set of Duals and Fetches) I sold when I though I wouldn't use them anymore. Mono-blue Fish isn't horribly expensive though and works well. Force is the most expensive card which isn't too bad compared to decks running Seas, Goyfs & the like.

Qft. I managed to kill my opponent's Eldrazi with the white "Destroy target blocked creature" spell, then he just played that. Wtf am I supposed to do?

Again, sorry for all the questions guys, but you all seem more helpful than many of the MTG forums out there @_@:

1. Is it worth it these days to Bolt/Terminate your opponents Noble Heirarch/Bird turn 1 to slow them down, or hold off until he lays the Baneslayer/whatever?

2. Hold the Blightning a couple of extra turns until he/she has 2/3 cards left in hand, or use it early when he or she is holding 5/6?

3. If you have 2 creatures out which have the Exalted: +1/+1 if attacking alone, and a 3rd creature attacks, does it get +2 or +1?

1. Well depends on the deck you are playing against. If they mulled to 6 or 5, it's a pretty saucy play, as they are likely to of kept a lower land hand. How much removal are you running in the deck? Bolt for mana dork is generally a fine play. Terminate for mana dork, not so much, would rather just kill a Knight of the Reliquary or Baneslayer.

2. Do they play Planeswalkers? If so, holding the Blightning might not be a horrible idea. Did they mulligan? Ripping their hand when they are already -1 or more card is devastating.

3. Exalted stacks, triggering when you declare a single attacker on your attack phase. This means you can also respond to the triggers.

Example:

Opponent has Noble Hierarch, Rafiq, and Rhox War Monk out. Opponent attacks with Rhox War Monk like a champ. The opponent stacks his triggers (let's say Double Attack, Exalted Rafiq, Exalted Hierarch). At this point, you can respond to the Exalted Hierarch trigger with a Bit Blast. You then cascade, decide to play or not play whichever card was cascaded into, then the War Monk dies.

2. Play thrinax if you have it, if it's Blightning or waste mana you blightning

Can you recover your DCI # in any way? I had damn 1930+ points back then....

If you Bit Blast on your opponents turn and turn over a Maelstrom Pulse, can you use it since its a sorcery? Creature card?

yeah I'm playing a solidarity variant (well, when I play - which hasn't happened in a year) and even that, while being relatively cheap, was expensive enough to make me uncomfortable. but I had to remind myself that there are so many decks that can fit 4x FoW that it's almost foolish not to buy them if you're going to play blue. same goes for the only other really expensive playset I bought for it, 4x Flooded Strand. of course, then they had to go and print new fetchlands, but fortunately that hasn't affected the price of the old ones much.

bottom line is that MtG isn't going to be easy on the wallet, but like you said, if you're smart you go for decks that aren't too expensive, or ones that have universally useful staples. there are some decks I can't imagine dumping the cash on. I mean there are only so many decks you can fit 4x Dreadnoughts into.

damn now I want to dust that deck off and bring it over to the local game shop. soooo much fun playing 20+ cards on turn 3 lol.

Yeah you can play sorcery/creatures off of Cascade.
