I've been playing a hard and tight Valakut and loving it. Been tempted to try out some Mono Control Black but have yet to see a definite build yet.

    Mainboard:

    4 Bloodbraid Elf
    4 Goblin Ruinblaster
    3 Siege-Gang Commander
    2 Bogardan Hellkite

    4 Expedition Map
    4 Harrow
    4 Khalni Heart Expedition
    4 Lightning Bolt
    4 Rampant Growth
    2 Lavaball Trap

    12 Mountain
    3 Forest
    4 Terramorphic Expanse
    2 Evolving Wilds
    4 Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle

    Sideboard:

    3 Avenger of Zendikar
    3 Chain Reaction
    2 Awaking Zone
    2 Banefire
    3 Ricochet Trap
    2 Chandra Nalaar

Sideboard is a bit sloppy catch-all because my local competition is pretty random. Deck steamrolls Jund game 1 and only gets shot down with Spread'em and solid Vampire decks. Pretty good for a tier 2 deck imo.

I wonder how it does against UW control. They probably run too many spreading seas and Tectonic edges to make it work.

That deck would get murdered by U/W and I fail to see how it runs over Jund....looks like way too much ramp to me.

Lavaball Trap is too easy to get around (Sac land at end of opponents turn). It seems like you would have to win the dice roll and draw land dest to stand a chance against Jund, but maybe I would have to see it in action to really know more.

I can just see the deck throwing down the Ramp and draw lands, then getting its win conditions discarded to Blightning.

Also, Throught Hemorage would rape it after game 1.

    Edit:

Devastating Summons would work well in your deck by the way.

Right now, at least online Jund is no longer the deck to beat, no it's U/W control. Trying to find its weakness. Turbofog isn't bad as long as they don't draw all their o rings early. The fact that they only have 2 counters maindeck means you can usually just time warp them out of the game.

I already said Spread'em beats my deck. As for U/W control its pretty scarce in my area so I haven't put much effort to build a deck to beat it. As far as ramp goes for Valakut...never too much ramp. A Harrow netting 9 or 18 colorless damage feels good man. Lavaball traps are more for board sweeping and blowing manlands/clutchlands.

For Jund I can win game 1 60-70% unless I get turn 3 blightning just because most Jund can't handle Ruinblasters and Lavaball traps slowing them down for the 2-3 turns I can use to fetch more Valakuts or more lands. Games 2+3 they can board well against me and I drop to 25-50% win depending.

Not a consistent top tier deck by any means for any real PTQ action, I think it placed 17th at one PT a while back.

Devastating Summons? No, nothing a GSC or a Bogardan can't already do without dropping me under the 5 mountains I need.

Thought Hemorrhage? Potentially if I have a GSC or some search sitting in hand for some reason, but it can't touch Valakut.

Thought Hem mainly for just taking out your win conditions...not doing damage lol.

It can remove a ramp card or two and SGC or Hellkite. The former hurting Valakut output and the latter disrupting stall/alternate win cards. Can't target Valakut which is my primary.

It makes turbofog look like an even better choice.

You forgot these which are just under 20 last time I checked:

    4 Noble Hierarch
    4 Knight of the Reliquary

To be honest, I think my fish deck (mono blue) cost less than that deck.

don't forget BoP. not THAT expensive, but not cheap. $10-$15 last time I checked?

and yeah, fish is cheap. not the best for consistent wins, but still fun, and contains a LOT of staples that will fit in other U decks anyway (FoW, fetchlands, etc.)

what fish do you play anyway? I've got high tide/brainfreeze (solidarity) going on. fucking love it, playing 20 cards on your third turn is fucking hilarious when it works.
