Fliers are amazing.
Squadron Hawks only go up in value if you have 2 or more tho. I would not take them over (denotes when I would): Blinding Mage (never), Wild Griffon (2+), Azure Drake (almost never.. like 4+), Forsee (2+ hawks, or 1+ Forsee). Obviously would need to be U/W for the last two.
I went 2-2 in the draft. Managed to pick 1 Sun Titan and made an okay white deck. I bought 3 more boosters and managed to pull another Sun Titan and a Fauna Shaman!
I think I did alright for my very first draft.
I need to play or build a consistent deck. I've been running fauna vengvine in naya, and the hands it gives me sometimes are just awful. Game 3 against monogreen eldrazi. 6 lands and a birds. Muled to 6, 5 lands and a hierarch. Mulled to 5, 5 lands. What the fuck. Also the opening hand with nutz except mountain instead of forest = FUUUUUUUUUUUU
I played Shaman Naya last week at FNM, and I missed top 8 for the first time...since I started playing again.
I lost to a kid playing green which ramped (slowly) into Emrakul. It was pitiful.
I used to play way back in the day when I was in middle school and through high school. Started right at end of Legends.
I recently got back into it and I want to build a deck for the standard Friday Night Magic games. I think the game store around here allows any cards 2010 edition or newer.
I am building a blue/black hand destruction/control deck. Anyone have any pointers? I just started acquiring new cards.
I have cancel, mind control, raise from the grave, mind sludge, just to give you an idea of the style of the deck.
It has been a really long time since I even looked at magic cards. So far I really like some of the new cards and abilities.
Your best bet is to make a mill deck. You would need leyline of the void in the sideboard in case someone has an eldrazi. Get hadron crabs, archive traps, and you could splash white for path to exile and safe passage and angel song type stuff.
Right now my main strategy has surrounded making the player discard their hand until I get enough mana to steal creatures from their graveyard to kill them with. Sometimes if they move too fast then I use mind control to take over their creatures and kill them that way.
The main issue right now with the deck is that it is too passive and not fast enough so like when I play my friend who has a green deck sometimes I crash and burn horribly when he plays huge creatures in turn 3 or 4 from all the mana giving elves.
I was thinking of throwing in those scorpions 1/3 scorpions that destroy anything they damage at the end of turn as well as frost walls for defense.
Edit: Last time I played an eldrazi deck they couldn't even play a single one I made them discard them all and then brought two of them back into play on my side and killed them with the eldrazi since raise from the dead takes 5 mana while most eldrazi seem to be 8 or more to cast.
I'm talkin about the big eldrazi's. Kozilek, Ulamog, and Emrakul. They shuffle the person GY back into their library when they hit the yard.
Ah ok I am not familiar with those yet. I am still catching up learning all the cards in the recent series. The last time I bought cards was 7th edition or 8th edition I believe so I am a little bit behind.
Hand disruption is not as good as you'd think. Against a control deck, they just counter whatever you play, and against an aggro deck, they just play creatures faster then you can get them in the GY. Especially with Vengevine lol. There's also Obstinate Baloth. A 4/4 for 2GG. When it comes into play you gain 4 life, and if a spell of ability an opponent controls causes you to discard it, it comes into play for free.
I think I can make it work I just have to refine it a little bit more. It is a very streaky roller coaster deck sometimes I completely obliterate my opponent and other times I get completely obliterated.
I think the hand destruction is not the best by itself but so far I mixed in a good amount of control blue cards as well. I need to get 4 mana leaks though for sure.
Get mana leaks, negates and essence scatters. Maybe even deprive.
