So, Sub prime loans are the only reason the economy if fucked?
Not blameless, just saying the dog piling by Rush, Newt and company is a complete joke. Where were this outrage before January? Oh and I don't need a few days to formulate an answer, you know as well as I know that the GOP are a joke. I have no desire to get into a pissing contest for the 100th time this month.
Search my name and read my standing point(s) on the issue. Rehashing an issue 10000000 times doesn't make it any more correct lol. Everyone knows that before January everything here was peachy, jobs were in surplus, money was in everyone's pocket, there was no bail outs or bankruptcy etc.. Oh and the wars were totally legit, cant forget about that. Woe is me! How far we've fallen since Obama took office... fucking QQ more.
Speaking of Rush, I was watching Cash cab the other day when someone answered with "Hydrocodone" to a "conservative talk show host" question and got it right. God I love Ben Bailey.
Ok..
The constriction of the economy was a universal problem, not limited to the actions of any single party or group of people. However, given the immense freedom to propose and enact legislation that the republican party had over the past eight years, and that they had a majority in both the house and senate, as well as a president, you deserve a proportional share of the blame for the events that occurred during your tenure. You cannot get your way for the better part of eight years, and shirk away from the blame when bad things happen. The democrats, as I've mentioned, were about as feeble a political party as they could be inasfar as standing up to a president and congress who were equally and extremely unpopular. To assign equal blame to both parties isn't quite justifiable.
Over the past eight years, the legislation put through and the economic policies set forth have been largely championed by the republicans, by virtue of the fact that there were more of them. I don't think it's irresponsible to place most of the blame on them. You can bet they'd be tooting their own horn about how great they did if the economy held off for the next election cycle, and the dems, characteristically, would have been quiet as a mouse and sulking at their own fragility. If the economy was still doing fantastic, would we really be singing the praises of the democratic party and giving them equal props for their work? Of course not.
Perhaps I was the one who misinterpreted Mizango's post, I took it to mean that the republicans deserved the majority of the blame, as they had the aforementioned freedom to act as they pleased over the past eight years. This is something I agree with. If you want to bring up mismanagement from democratic majorities, perfectly fine and dandy. I did not think Miz was leaving out the Dems entirely, if he was, my mistake. I tend to give the more reasonable people on this board the benefit of the doubt.
No there are a multitude of factors that caused the economy to tank, that's the fucking point. Tristam if we're speaking technically it was a Democratic congress that oversaw the collapse of the economy, but facts are so pesky.
Seriously though, can we just not worry about who's fault this is? There are much more fun topics to relentlessly debate.
Economic Darwinism.
It is law.
If we're speaking technically, there's more to it than who was there when it "started". But I agree with your second statement. Perhaps I should have said "legislation that you enacted" rather than "events that occurred"
There's probably a discussion to be had about whether the legislation enacted in response to the imminent collapse was appropriate and/or helpful, but you're right I don't know if that's appropriate for this thread.
won't someone just come out and say that we have no fucking clue how the economy works and are left making baseless guesses about it in congress in order to gain votes from constituents that are equally arrogant and clueless.
It's like predicting the weather, only 4 years in advance. Let's not play the damn blame game, figure out what is wrong, and fucking fix it. Stop playing politics for 1 minute
