haha thanks. I'll definitely be as earth-conscious as possible. the Burning Man website really pounds into your head how much respect you have to have for the playa, and I take that to heart.

I'm not even sure if we're coming through Reno or if we're driving down from here... I have no idea what my transportation is yet. so I guess we'll see how that works out.

See everything you want to see BEFORE the weekend. The weekend is when all the tourists and fratboys come down to party and the vibe in Burning Man shifts dramatically.
During the week people are open and expressive and having fun. By the weekend they become slightly more guarded as drunk assholes arrive.

Also, stay to see the temple burn the day after the man burns. I regret not staying for that.

What the fuck, I didn't realise Burning Man was a real event... you should totally bring a caravan and recreate Hal's unintentional satire on middle-class families.

good to know. I'm not sure how long we'll be staying, since I have to get back to work and all, but I'm going to request a couple of extra days off just in case. better to show up on a day you had off than not be able to make back to work on time.

the tip about the douchebags will come in very handy, I think. frat boys are the reason I gave up my trip to 10,000 Lakes Festival this year. any event with Dave Matthews headlining is going to draw a crowd I'm not entirely comfortable with.

lol waffles. you buy me an RV and I'll do the rest!

Yeah there are definitely a lot of douche bags that go to burning man now that it has become so large that ruin it for everyone. Which direction are you heading in from? There is only one road in to get there which does not leave a whole lot of variety as far as how you get to the playa. Most people end up coming through Reno or at least right to the edge of Reno.

I have no idea, we're either driving down from Minnesota (likely) or flying in and driving from Reno (less likely). I don't even know the people I'm going with, but they're friends of the friend I'm getting the ticket from... I think... I know she knows them somehow.

yeah, it's all up in the air right now. but I'm definitely looking forward to a nice fat clusterfuck on the way in, and again on the way out.

    man, douchebags ruin everything.

I am glad I bought a house at the far south end of town... so far its outside of Reno City limits.

The north areas are generally a giant cluster of traffic and crap with 80 and 395 intersecting.

(Mind you I am talking traffic for this area which in no way compares to the Bay Area or LA area.)

there's no traffic in LA... because the traffic's so bad that nobody drives, of course. (except for Lindsay Lohan and Shia LaDouche)

I went to LA to visit a friend and it seemed like there was traffic 24/7. Was there three days and did not see a single moment when the freeway did not have traffic on it. Even at 1am driving home we hit bumper to bumper traffic.

got the ticket, so I requested the time off, it was approved... oh man. this is really happening.

I'm worried about the lack of sleep and all the messed up weather, plus the dust, but it will be worth it. it'll be another experience under my belt I'll be glad to have had.
