Just when we were getting used to giant Gundam crotch, the rest of the life-sized statue has appeared. That's right, the mecha monument is just about done. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the mecha anime/manga/toy/video game franchise, this 18-meter-tall (59-foot-tall) RX-78 has been erected.
Part of the "Mobile Suit Gundam 30th Anniversary Project," the structure in Odaiba's Shiokaze Park will stay up for only two months and be built from fiberglass-reinforced plastic over a steel frame and coated in a layer of awesomeoness.
Fifty points on the Gundam statue will emit light, and mist will shoot out of 14 different points on the statue. The 1/1 scale Gundam boasts a moveable head and a continuous stream of oh-man-this-is-so-damn-cool.

Wow, that's pretty sweet. I think it'd be cooler if they had used a better looking suit though....also wonder how much that cost to construct.

No way. The RX-78 is one of the coolest most recognized Mech from any Anime ever made. And for a series as popular as gundam its the only mech that rightly should have been built.

The only way I would possibly be happier is if there were a Zaku II or a Gouf built. I just wish I could take a look at this in real life. These pictures probably dont do it justice.
