I'm completely anti-taser, so I hate to say this, but... I'm also anti-"old people who think being old gives them the right to be complete pieces of shit to anyone for any reason." so this will be the first time ever that I've said: yep, it was justified.
I think it's justified. Plus if he had wrestled with her to get her cuffed she probably would have broken a bone.
stunnin' bitches err day
I'll bite.
I hate the way cops use tasers (in the monthly video we see on here anyway). If he's going to arrest her, push her against the truck, take her arms behind her back, and cuff her. What's wrong with this plan? Once he decides to arrest her and has her get out of the car - why the shouting match? Just fucking do it already. I never understand this - just do what you're going to do.
Bitch clearly deserved to get shocked, but the cop's job isn't to give bitches what they deserve.
Why should the cop need to put himself in harms way to arrest someone? I certainly wouldn't want to try and wrestle down a 72 year old woman near a busy freeway.
Darwinism
I say, bravo.
Texas; stunnin yo grammy since 2009.
What if she was Aunt May? Would you taze Aunt May? Even after she gave you 20 bucks for your birthday, while being strapped for cash?
In this case the cop avoided using the standard issue extending baton, as well as the extra physical force needed to subdue forcefully preventing physical injury to both parties, especially on that highway in particular. Its close to both 620 and IH-35, which are major traffic areas, and bleed off into the highway where she was stopped.
Cops here are advised to get the situation to simmer down so that they are thrown into public media, or have dash cam tapes misconstrued against them. They would prefer to have a couple of calm parties, rather than one calm one and one they just had to beat the everliving shit out of. Last thing Austin needs are more traffic fatalities tying to arrest this old lady. Tazer was much better, and properly applied in this case.
Any other state I'd probably feel bad for the old woman--- but old people in Texas are generally crazy on a level unimaginable.
Never justified. Tasers are replacements for guns. They should never be used in any situation that doesn't warrant a gun. They have a small but sizeable chance of killing or seriously injuring people, and the way they're used is criminally negligent.
~400ish have died from police use of a taser.
Because that's his job, and if I knew what the code was for the eyeroll smiley, i'd make it size=50 at the idea that he'd be in harms way with a 72 year old unarmed woman.
Tazing in this situation is just lazy. If he'd just arrested her the standard way this wouldn't be news. There's plenty of police who operate just fine (including the one that frequently posts on these boards) without ever using a tazer.
Nobody who's ever been cut off by an old lady speeding in a car 10x too big for her on a crowded highway should be sympathetic for this one.

Tasers are not replacements for guns. Never used in a situation that doesn't reqeire a gun...psh...When was the last time you saw a police shootout and saw the police pull out a taser instead of a gun?
There are plenty of situtations where a taser should be used in a situation that does not require a gun. Terrible wording is terrible.
greg should be put down via taser
Kono don't make me come back to bahamut and hoe check you so hard you'll crap someone elses pants.
