Her job was to show up to events and do stuff for the pageant and she didn't so she was let go.

seriously, she did so much more than just say that one line. she took that exposure and turned it into a career as a conservative speaker, ditching some of her responsibilities as Miss California in the process. that was strike one. then it was discovered that she lied on her application for the pageant. strike two.
