No offense OP but Jersey can't claim the Blue Crab. For Blue Crab you got to come to Baltimore. Steamed with Old Bay is the best seafood you'll ever eat.
I grew up in Delaware and we ate it the same way there. As a kid they had crab houses where you pay a set price at the door. It was only like $12 in the 80's. Inside there was just a bunch of picnic tables covered with paper. You take a seat and they just start dumping bushel after bushel in front of you. Remembering this is making me horny.
The place is still around. Old Mill Crab House
It looks like they got all fancy and shit. Childhood ruined.
Having shrimp the same way (steamed with Old Bay) is the sex as well but I can't claim that as a Baltimore special.
Scrapple is huge in DE too but I have never eaten it. I grew up 5 minutes from Rapa scrapple. I'll just say that if you are the type of person that doesn't want to know what they make hot dogs out of you DEFINITELY don't want to know how they make scrapple.
Both, you have to lubricate the shells pretty well but it works.

they also have hamburgers, which are red hotdog weenies on a hamburger bun.
On the topic of Old Bay. We have a wing place fairly close to our home called Big Shot Bob's, if anyone is ever in the Bellevue area of Pittsburgh, you must order from them. They have the best wings I've ever had in my life. I usually end up getting the Old Bay dry wings. Absolutely fantastic. The bad thing is that they have no descriptions for what is in the wing sauce. So my wife and our best friend's have started a spreadsheet so we can figure out what is in each "flavor." Here's some of the names, they are a bit off the wall.
A.C. Green
Arizona Heat
Baby Blues
Bada Bing
Black and Gold
Blue Magic

Trust me. If you're ever in their neck of the woods, for the love of God, order from them.
durians.
NYC here, I work midtown so there's really like a million different places of a million different ethnicities. I go to downtown to Chinatown sometimes for the food, you can find an authentic restaurant and eat like a king for 5 bucks. But you have to walk through East Village and I'm always scared I'll get gang raped by a bunch of guys :<
Otherwise basically what Izzy said, Pizza, etc.
Pussy. Maybe if you took the initiative and raped someone on the way, they would respect your power!![]()
San Antonio has great food everywhere. Its hard to say what food defines the city. Since S.A. is a tourist and military town, it has tons of great types of food everywhere.
I can't think of a notable dish for my area at all, don't think Nottingham is well known for foods. Better known for Robin Hood and Lace. (:
So I'll just go all general:

Lancashire Hotpot (from the next county over...)

Eccles Cake (nom nom)
That's about it for the Northwest really. I guess you can count black pudding too, but I don't like that! English food is pretty fail to be honest, though I do like Muscles in garlic, and other seaside food.
London. Er, local food... hmm... how about everything.
There are three pretty good Somali restaurants within two minutes' walk of my front door, so I'll go with that. In before "hur hur hur, sandwiches."

how come no one from Washington is talking about blackberries? they grow all over the place up there and jam/cobbler/pie/pastries/etc with them are all delicious. Also someone from the pacific northwest needs to post some smoked salmon.
back home in AZ.... hmm, Navajo frybread/tacos are kind of a regional treat:

We're also known for prickly pear cactus... you can make really damn good jelly and syrup out of it.
Also, Arizona Iced Tea.
Flagstaff, AZ has La Fonda, great little neighborhood mexican restaurant. put honey and salsa on the tortilla chips. the food in general is greasy goodness; good comfort food. Dara Thai is a great place for that kind of food, and Hiro's Sushi is pretty awesome as well. Granny's Closet does the bar food kind of stuff, and Mike & Rhonda's is your quota for generic artery-clogging breakfast goodness.
Now for Suwon, SK:

all those side dishes come with- it's fantastic. it's typically pork, but I think this picture is steak. both are good though; just some tasty marinated bbq meat that you can wrap up in a leaf of lettuce/sesame and add some gojang and maybe some rice/onions/garlic/whatever for a tasty mouthful.
great street meat here too, but you can watch Andrew Zimmern for more on that.
For the person that posted the Garbage Plate... Had that when I visited a friend in Rochester. /kneel
These are some of the things I like to eat when I'm in the area with friends...
Washington Heights (Mangu):

Midtown (Chicken and Rice):

East Setauket (Gasm):

Se-Port Deli... If you haven't been there and live in the area, go now and get a Gasm. Couldn't find a pic but its Chicken Cutlet, Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Thousand Island Dressing, Cole Slaw on a toasted Garlic Bread.
I grew up in central IL, so I guess it would be corn and steak lol. Nothing too interesting, though I did make regular trips up to Chicago for deep dish pizza.l Yes, new york, it's better than your low grade cheese on cardboard. No, I don't care that the slice is really huge.
I spent the next several years in the DC area. Nothing that I'm aware of is DC native. THough there are a lot of East African (typically Ethiopian) restaurants downtown, I guess thats a thing.
Now I live in the Baltimore area and duh, it's clearly crabs. Which is lame because I can't really eat shellfish and they put shit on EVERYTHING. "Seafood" here does not mean fish, it means crabs, shrimp, and other shellfish. If you go to a seafood restaurant you'll have 25 dishes with shellfish (including chicken and steak topped with crab of some sort) and they'll toss in something like baked whitefish and basic salmon. Ugh. Boring.
And to the OP and your assertion that only NJ knows how to do it right...take crab, coat in old bay, steam. I mean, really...this is not a fine art here. It's like being proud of boiling pasta.
crab legs and other seafood related items, but generally crab legs. thank god maryland is so close or DC wouldnt have shit
