Cold Weather Flying is the stupidest shit they ever did. I don't mean the actual act of limiting your flying in Northrend until 77, no; I agree with that, but I hate the feeling of having another tax levied upon every alt I decide to level. Why was it so hard to just leave it as a quest reward in Sholazar Basin like it was in beta? It's not like the quest was hard and Sholazar is the most efficient leveling zone in the entire game, rife with treasure for all gathering professions. The game SHOULD be forcing people there and it actually does considering an NPC at the point 90% of players leave Dalaran at gets a question mark above his head and teleports you there directly at 77.

Ugh. If their decision to change it to gold was really as honest as they proclaimed, there really wasn't any damage in leaving the quest in and giving people an option. Not all of us drink paint.

I have only have done like 10 quests in Sholozar. If cold weather flying was a reward there, I would have been SOL.

MMOs are all about the carrot on the stick to keep your running the treadmill and that 1000 gold is a carrot just as any piece of Ulduar gear is. The main difference is cold weather flying has to be accessible and obvious to people as it is essential for Northrend activities. It can't be at the end of a quest chain because people who play without looking up info on databases or constantly asking other people questions should be able to find it easily and there's no more obvious place than the flight point area of the main hub city. Also, the advantage of a gold cost over a quest line is people can choose to earn it how they want. If you don't want to quest in the Basin for some reason, you don't have to. That's good. Freedom with obvious carrots is how you make people enjoy MMOs.

My only question is whether Cold Weather Flying should be a trivial cost or a somewhat significant cost as it is now, but, as it is, it's no big deal.

That said, the mount changes are spectacularly done.

I wouldn't be upset in the slightest if they changed cold weather to free/cheap, but then again they want money being sinked somewhere, and that's the easiest place to sink a small portion of the overall in game gold.

There has to be a monkey sink in the game besides the vanity mounts in Dalaran. 5 grand isn't even that much money, and now you presumably get your faction discount alongside that, so it already is cheaper than it used to be.

Did Kuai get Russta's forum account or something? All this QQ reeks of copypasta from the official forums.

No. It means you can now use mounts that fly 150%/ground 60%. The land-only mounts remain at full 100% speed.

believe it just means the "mount" that can do the 150% in the air, will move at 60% on the ground. If you pop out your epic ground mount it will go 100%
Sort of how like epic flying mount goes 100% when its on the ground.

only thing that kind of affects me is the 300 riding skill unless I level an alt. I don't see why anyone would really complain though, other than to sound "hardcore"

Last I checked, the game people experience will remain the same. It will only go by 60% faster. They still have to do the same amount of shit as everyone else.

Plus, I think this is mostly for rerolls. Doing the same tedious walking shit over and over is ridiculous and the change is justified.

Thank god for this change, as someone who has leveled 6-8 chars up to 70 or higher, with more alts being leveled now... this just makes it faster for me in the future. Some people say its unfair, there should be compensation for players that are 80 already. Bullshit. I leveled to 60 in vanilla on several characters, and it sucked, all future chars getting faster leveling in any way possible is a huge plus. Not that many people only play ONE single character ever.

Reasons like this are why I quit. How much more easymode and pathetic can we make WoW?
You can't be serious. Oh god wow is so easy to level in. THANK GOD, this is not a Korean MMO I shouldn't have to take 50 years of grinding to level. This is a REWARD to people like me who level alts and want to play more than one character. Leveling is already easy mode, so what if it's easier? It's more convenient. I'm not in high school anymore i don't have time to go through all the bullshit over and over. It's travel speed, super easy mode.

You're right, wow should be harder, we should walk everywhere. Flying mounts and ground mounts shouldn't exist at all... I mean, they aren't hard core enough.

Kuai's posts are actually funny. Russta made a legitimate complaint. The original cold-weather flying shit came from a quest in Basin, and it's retarded they changed it.

What? Do you have downs syndrome? Spending more time traveling isn't experiencing the game. WoW is about end game and lore. How the hell does how fast I ride from the Barrens to Thunder Bluff on my alt have anything to do with ruining the game and making it too easy?

Fuck working for anything in a game? You do realize people still have to grind out 80 levels of questing, so who cares when they get a mount?

People in FFXI get to ride chocobos at lv.20. FFXI travel was too easy. That's why I quit that game. Chocobos and airship passes should have been lv.75 only.

By all means, if faster traveling makes a game too easy for you then don't buy a mount. Don't even run. Set yourself to walk and experience the game.

Looks like mount changes aren't only the new thing for travel changes. Zepplin between TB/Org and portal in Org and SW to Stairs of Destiny.

wow, that portal will be awesome. Too bad it didn't already exist. Had to take the long way to outland (from northrend) on my 68 hunter a few times. First, cause I wanted a pet there, and 2nd, cause I ran out of northrend quests and wanted to get 70 in outland first. 15minutes extra to level is always welcomed.

I'll take the 80 part. Can't wait for paid faction changes and a paid reroll to a level 55+ character. Bring it on blizzard. Give me some more bang for my buck on a near 5 year old game so I don't have to jump through hoops and spend 40+ hours of my life grinding through the same shit I've already done 8+ times. The game is old, whats the big deal if vanilla content is sped through...

Oh, and Eanae, let me copypasta something for you:

There's a common thread running through a number of posts recently that say the game is being "dumbed down", "make easier", or, to quote another recent thread, "retardedly easy". I couldn't make head nor tail of these opinions, as I couldn't see how reducing the time it takes to, for example, get to Sereena Bloodfeather, or the time to get back to Crossroads, made actually taking her head any easier. But I finally realized what the issue is.

For a large number of WoW players, the act of walking somewhere is intellectually challenging.

Once you understand this, it makes sense why they'd think getting mounts sooner would make the game easier or "dumb it down" for them. Since actually walking somewhere so challenges their intellectual capacities, it really does remove much of a challenge in the game for them.

Now that I understand this, I can see your point of view. But understand that for most of us, walking is not something that challenges our intellectual capacities. It's so easy it's actually boring for us. By reducing the amount of time we spend doing it, and thus increasing the relative amount of time we spend actually engaged in doing quests rather than just getting to them, this does the opposite of dumbing the game down, it makes the game much more intelligent. We spend more time thinking about how to accomplish goals and executing those plans than staring at characters walking across a plain.

I know at your relatively limited mental capacities, that can be hard to grasp, but do understand that for us, removing all that walking does not remove anything challenging for us, no matter how difficult you found it yourselves. For those of us who've mastered the art of walking, it really wasn't any challenge at all.

If you still find all that walking around slowly to be intellectually challenging, do note that although you can buy mounts sooner, you don't have to, so you can continue to engage in this task you find interesting and challenging while those of us who already find it easy skip over it.

Rather than dumbing the game down, this makes the game much smarter. It doesn't make it any easier, since it does not, for us, remove anything we found at all difficult. But feel free to continue to walk if that's the kind of task your intellect finds stimulating and challenging. We won't begrudge you for indulging in the parts of the game you enjoy. Show us the same courtesy is all we ask. Thanks.
