i thought the ECM jammer shit was what you're supposed to use to counter it.. idunno i got it unlocked but never used it
ECM is silly good I would def recommend giving it a try.
Works a bit more like in real life as most chaff that's deployed in the military is a mix of phosphorous and other shit that heats up quick to distract heat seeking missiles, as well as small bits and pieces of metal and what can only be described as tin foil to disrupt laser locking devices and radar devices (essentially a radar jamming device).
It was frustrating as all hell for someone like me who loves the choppers to dogfight someone tooth and nail to essentially a stalemate amongst pilots, then to be shot down with someone using Slo-Flam/Jav or Guided Missle combo's. I love the outmaneuvering of other people just to test pilot skills but that was always my weakness. A bunch of people sitting below and shooting up at me for a quick and easy kill always came out on top. It's almost a guarantee that you'll die against any of the aforementioned combo's, which prevents you from jumping in a chopper and causes people to base camp once they break the flight team down and bomb the crap out of you.
I am a bit sad about the MAV nerf as some of the best sniper spots are only accessible through it. Guess we'll have to get more creative with it. I know the highway U.S. camp is the choice for sniper spots as it overlooks the map, but it's hard to get in some of the spots without using a MAV (I hated the guys who would get on top of the highway till I found out I can drop em with some mortar action).
Some of the tweaks and stuff to the USAS/MK are definitely welcome. I've resorted to trolling people who exclusively frag round their way to 20-30 kills a round and just killing them every chance I got (which has essentially made me the most hated person on the PSN i'm sure with the amount of nasty grams I get). I always respond with "Stop using the USAS and you won't get trolled".
#1: Clearly you're one of those pilots that feels they should dominate the field no matter what. You're part of a team, not solo. If you keep moving, it's pretty easy to avoid getting shot down by ground forces. And, in a dogfight, your opponent has to contend with the same things you do.
#2: MAV elevator is retarded and broken, good riddance.

works for laser/radar guided i believe not heat seeking but I guess it could be both chaff and flare but they should say that
I've been getting annoyed with ECM because it seems to do what flares do and more. I know ECM will break your lock, but it seems like they function like flares to me when they shouldn't. Also, It seems I might be able to brake turn in the F-35 now, but I don't know even after that if it can stand up to the SU-35. I tried to F-35 once on Oman. I got completely destroyed by Flankers every time I left the carrier.
Thats what the stationary AA is for
Does the carrier on Oman even have an AA? I know one of the maps doesn't, and I can't remember which it is.
edit: I'm dumb lol. I never realized the AA was behind me when I spawn in the jet. I'm use to taking off over the AA rather than it being me.
I'm not really getting my ass handed to me at the carrier though. Once I get towards the battlefield , the SU-35 can get behind me very easily and take me out. If the SU-35 are getting taken out by anti-air, I can destroy infantry, but most of the time they are in the air the entire game.
What's funny is i'm quite terrible at infantry killing without a competent gunner on my side. I just love the airfighting aspect. Not the camping and crushing of foot infantry like other people do. I suppose if people are getting pissed at me cause I crush them in the air, then the next best thing is to take me out with stinger or javs. Can't complain too much really.Originally Posted by Arkanna
I agree with #2. Was going against one guy who had his buddy piloting the MAV while he zoomed up and down sniping people from the air. Took him out with a C4 when he got too close to the ground and laid one on the MAV. When he went up to snipe me, I blew it up. Satisfying.
Chaffs and smoke should be the only things that affect laser-guidance. Flares should continue to not do shit.
This is just another example of whiny shits who suck complaining to the point where the game really isn't playable because none of the weapons do what they're supposed to.
Oh please, as if AA isn't over effective enough. With one mobile AA on the ground, one eng harassing and one soflam out, the other team can completely dominate the air game on a map like Caspian. It's impossible to dogfight when you are getting spammed from the ground with laser locks, and when one team completely takes over the air and base rapes future jets then your helicopter becomes useless and theirs becomes a god and ground forces get fucked.
AA is overpowered right now in BF3, and changes needed to be made. This isn't a case of whiny players, whiny players aren't in the air for more than 30 seconds anyway. This is a case of top pilots having problems and it making the air game generally unfun.
mobile AA is on caspian map on pc?
ps3 only has mobile aa on like 3 maps iirc.
wake island rush, wake island conquest, n. canals rush
and yes the thing is insanely op
Mobile AA is on like every map that has jets on PC.
Also, Jihad Jeep > Mobile AA.
Mobile AA drivers are oblivious to my presence half the time, so I just RPG the shit out of them. When they get out, I kill them and repair the AA which results in my team having two mobile AA's.
I'm fuckin terrible at this game sometimes. Tonight it seemed like no matter what I did, no matter how well hid or behind cover I was, I just kept getting instantly acquired by the enemy and killed in seconds. The match before that(rush) we stopped them at the first set of points, but the very next one this shit happens. Just seems like im a bullet magnet sometimes. Any tips for rush infantry play? The jet tips earlier in this thread helped my jet game a ton.
Yeah typically they pay no attention and are easy to kill. I've flown/driven over to them, jumped out and ran a few hundred meters to unrepair them to death several times. They aren't difficult to take out, but air game is extremely annoying when its 2v2 or 2v1 dogfighting while a soflam and AA are up. There is just too much power. I'm also happy they toned down jet cannon damage. They buffed it way to high originally. It became too easy to take out other jets and too hard for friends to stay in the air for more than 60 seconds to learn.
Not sure if more people have noticed this or not but seems a lot more people are using the spot function more which makes cover/concealment options scarce. The best advice I can give is always be on the move, don't stop, and pay attention to your minimap for enemy positions. There's some people out there that swear by the loner option and forge their own way but traveling in groups gets you better and quicker sightings on enemy position, plus gets you valuable backup when your cover gets blown by a squad.Originally Posted by djzombie
9 times out of 10 when I play nowadays, even on cramped maps such as the Metro and Bazaar, SOMEONE out there is playing recon and has the MAV out to spot. This helps you out a million times more than just usual spot warfare as the MAV can at least reveal enemy positions behind walls and doesn't discriminate between planes (vertical, etc). I've tried to at least run out on first spawn as Recon to set up a MAV somewhere where I know there's going to be heavy foot traffic and conceal it so it's not so easy to spot and can still watch for me. Even if I die, the MAV will still be there till it's killed and that'll help me out.
Overall it's just an experience thing. Too many times have I went to attack objectives and saw the enemy right next to the con station after activation or grabbing a flag in conquest and sitting right next to the flag. Move around and sight often and for god sakes use that friggin spot function (spam that shit).
Yea thats the thing about softcore 3d spotting makes it easy to find ppl. When playing rush infantry id suggest just try to slow down advanceing from cover to cover, cover your team while they move up, as far as classes for infantry based play id say assault to attack and support to defend with claymores on site.
Agreed. I know it's kind of a shitty strategy but usually I play behind the advance line and let the aggressive squads run in first. They'll usually die/take fire and that gives me an opportunity to flank the enemy positions to kill them or at least give me a few moments to lay some suppressing fire while I toss some explosives their way. On maps such as Operation Firestorm where there's a lot of concealed spots on the grid buildings, spotting is key here and good grenade/RPG placement can offset a good number of choke points where you get picked off while you run up and get caught in narrow landings/ladders.Originally Posted by Asilius
One guy I play with a lot suggested taking an even bigger backseat approach and scoping front with Infared and spot for the advance. A lot of aggressive recon strategies are developing from this and if you're really good, taking a potshot at a leg or body can at least lay a suppressive blow to the concealed positions to give you a chance to advance up and take them out. Not going to be pretty but aggression is key in this game unless you're a god sniper that can consistently snipe from the top of a mountain or crane without being taken out by an RPG/Helicopter.
i wouldn't suggest constantly running around if you're new often that's just people out in the open running aimlessly around and they make super easy targets, i would suggest slowing down and getting familiar with the maps, moving from cover to cover is good advice. as for MAV units spotting you they're very easy to take out with other MAV units just fly around to them lock onto them and then destroy them with the trigger button/JAM equip button (R1 on ps3) they blow up quick
on the 3 maps console has mobile AAs they are usually dominating the ground game significantly making it really difficult to take them out at least the good players who get them, they take down the air quick so they can keep concentrating on infantry
