Ah okay. Yeah. That makes sense. I'm used to the close quarter things so when I went to CQ and struggled.. it was mostly because I had no idea where the hotspots were. D:

Battlefield 3's lack of DLC: DICE general manager explains
Battlefield 3 launched on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on in late October of 2011. Approximately a month and a half later, the game's first expansion arrived: "Back to Karkand." Aside from a handful of tweaks since, EA's DICE studio has kept relative radio silence. So much so, in fact, that one prominent Battlefield fan site publicly declared its own silence until DICE spoke up (the developer released a missive the following day).

It is with this recent history -- now four months since Battlefield 3's last content drop, and another three months before "Close Quarters" is set to launch -- that we approached a recent interview with DICE general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson. In short, what in the world is taking so damn long?

"The reason that we haven't followed up with even more content more quickly, there's a couple of practical reasons," Troedsson told us. "Part of that is that we just need to spend a lot of focus getting the game out. The ambition was to get more packs out earlier, but sometimes you have to prioritize between the base product and what you're doing afterwards." Troedsson also argued that DICE's approach was thematic, not "piecemeal" (Call of Duty's approach), which was a deliberate choice on his studio's part.

"If you prefer to have smaller piecemeal packs every now and then, you can go with that. We prefer to do something bigger that has a specific theme, that has maps, weapons, assignments, persistent upgrades, all this kinda stuff," Troedsson said. Could his studio have gotten out this content earlier? "Probably," he said, but DICE ran into its own limitations. "Sometimes we have limitations to what we can and can't do."

But without any other announced projects, and EA's Danger Close taking responsibility for its own multiplayer section in the coming Medal of Honor game (DICE handled the previous game's multi), it's unclear what other responsibilities are keeping DICE from pushing out Battlefield 3 support content more quickly. We'll just havet to assume the majority of the studio is head down on a super secret sequel to Mirror's Edge. Obviously.

Beyond "Close Quarters," DICE has two more content packs announced for Battlefield 3, including "Armored Kill" in fall and "End Game" in winter. And yes, Call of Duty's Elite DLC drops continue monthly.

As you said, learn map/hot spots. I've found silenced weapons to be king, particularly now that the game has been out for so long; most people should instantly correlate minimap indicators with "physical" locations.

Spot spot spot. I typically spam the back (I assume select for PS3) button when I can or I'm focused on a hot spot. You're bound to pick up someone you didn't initially see.

In that regard, try to stay hidden yourself. I don't necessarily mean camping, but rather, pick your battles. It doesn't benefit the match to give your position away if you're not directly affecting the objective. I'll typically avoid an encounter if I think it will get me killed when I'm needed elsewhere.

And to that end, try to get a feel for the flow of the battle in objective matches. Let's say the enemy team has a good rally going. I'll see my own team continuously engage the enemy at their frontlines, dying repeatedly. We're losing tickets to deaths and capture point bleeding when all it takes is a few soldiers to sneak around the battle, capture a few of the enemy's rear points, and cutoff their front. It seems like common sense, but a lot of people get caught up on needing to take the point most fought over.

Overall, try to keep in mind that it's a team based game first.

I hope what I said is helpful . Unfortunately, I'm on Xbox or I'd gladly play with you.

Edit: oh, and the most important thing in Conquest is holding the majority of points at all costs. Your team will never out kill the constant drain on tickets.

Looks really fun but i hope they do something like restrict high explosives on the smaller maps. Either by locking them all together or making it so you have to die get more high explosive ammo. While 4-5 new Operation Metro's would be good for my medic score being killed by explosions at choke points over and over and over again doesnt sound like fun.

I guess we won't be getting any decent size maps this time around. Unless I'm mistaken, none of these maps will even have vehicles.

D: Either way.. it's definitely interesting on TDM, and man.. it's so much harder to see people on here than it is MW3. I've got fairly bad eyes, and with there not being a color blind assist (granted I'm not color blind, but it helps me see so much better).. it makes it really, *really* hard, lol.

Should be playing on the only choice, PC!

I found particularly for me being a first time FPS player (aside from Halo), I had to really study the game for a while to get a feel for it before I started engaging seriously.

For the most part, I just really died a lot in the beginning. My K/D Ratio was probably around a .5 or something before I started getting serious with it. But I took the time to map out the rush pathing of the more aggressive players and learned how to use cover and concealment to sneak around the advanced rush while I attacked their back quarters. Using camouflage and staying hidden while someone is running their ass off to get objectives lets you pick the big players out while saving your bacon in a close quarters battle. Once you learn the more popular pathing routes of the advanced rush you can start hitting them from concealed spots (always take the guy in the back first, never go after the front rusher) and use a silencer to conceal your position. 9 times out of 10 there will be a sniper somewhere spotting for the advance so keep yourself mobile and learn how to switch positions in and out to get the maximum amount of kills before your spot is compromised.

DLC looks interesting as it opens up a more dynamic looking map with a lot of cover and spots to shoot from. The close quarters maps now (Metro and Bazaar) have too many choke points and if both sides are equal in skill and members, you just tend to die a lot and accomplish nothing (especially if someone drops a lucky M320 in to a stacked squad of assault trying to revive and leap-frog an advance with suppression and FAMAS sweeps). Hopefully they'll fix the "funnel" aspect of some of these CQC maps to allow greater penetration for advance squads and better sniper positions.

    New maps and new guns!

If you don't care about your K/D, I would recommend messing around with rush or conquest on the smaller maps. It's good way of getting used to a different type of play style, even though it's still similar to TDM. You're not really getting the full battlefield experience until you've blown up a tank with C4!

I missed the part where they announced the two DLC"s following Close Quarters. This caught my attention in particular:

This fall will also bring the expansion pack Battlefield 3: Armored Kill. Featuring all-out vehicle warfare with new tanks, ATV’s, and mobile artillery, it also includes the biggest map in Battlefield history
I wonder if that map will be PC exclusive. Consoles already have scaled down maps, so I don't see how that's going to work. I suppose they can just have an extremely scaled down map.

Doubt it will be exclusive, just scaled down.

Ugh. Haven';t been able to have fun with BF3 lately. Just now.. tried to start it up, froze on the startup screen. Has done this a couple times now, and before you ask.. no, it's not the PS3. I googled around and it seems to be a prevalent issue with a lot of people's games. :/ Rather annoying.

Lately? Didn't you just install it like 3 days ago? o_O Give it a chance, you'll improve as time goes on. BF3 is pretty unforgiving. (And it's a DICE game, get used to the bugs and quirks, they aren't going anywhere!)

No no. Not 'not having fun' due to being bad, but not having fun due to the random freezes upon start-up, lol. Yeah, I don't mind dying three times in a row to spawn death, but the freezes are annoying.

Latest patch was recently in for approval by Sony and MS for console editions; hopefully it will be coming soon.

Is there a price set for the new DLC? Destruction looks phenomenal as always
