Stingers are a complete bitch to deal with in a chopper when there's 5+ engineers with them in a single game (and with how popular engineers are, this tends to be every game with air vehicles on 64 player maps). You can handle 1-2 focusing on you by flying behind trees or doing a fast landing to avoid launched stinger missiles, but anymore than that and you're going to get raped, no matter how good of a pilot you are. You can potentially handle 3 if you have Stealth and IR Flares equipped. Jets can just lolafterburn away from them so it's not as big of a deal to them. I think DICE's balancing mindset is that jets should be the "absolute" hard counter to helicopters rather than stingers.

You have 3+ people attacking you at once and you're complaining that you die too easily in an aircraft? Let me spell it out for you, you have THREE people attacking you, it better damn well be easy to take down a helicopter that can't afterburn itself away from an enemy projectile. You can't complain about the purpose of a weapon, because that is what it was designed to do. If it wasn't working properly, like being blinded in broad daylight by a flashlight, i can understand, but even in real world scenarios, if three people are aiming stingers at your helicopter, you better damn well get your ass out of there before you get shot down.

If they want to nerf it, lower its ammo count from 3 to 2, anything else is just pandering to the failures in the game.

Yeah I don't really think stingers are broken. I was a gunner for a cobra yesterday with my friend as a pilot. Before we were shot down I managed to get 14 kills at the gunner seat and the IR Flares stopped most of stingers that headed our way.

It was actually kinda funny... we had the other team raging so hard because even though I only had 14 kills, I got 2 ribbons for disabling 10 vehicles. We were just destroying their tanks & jeeps at their spawn and shooting their jets as they were taking off and they couldn't do a thing about it.

Exactly, they need to concentrate at least a part of their forces to deal with aircraft or they just can't do it at all. I thank the quick aircraft respawns for that, since if you got stingers to deal with that pesky helicopter shooting and spotting you, you need to stay on it. Have three people constantly on the look out for you? They first need to stay alive from the ground forces gunning for them, then need to get out in the open to get a lock on you (snipers where you at?), then they need to deal with your flares and you using hills and tree lines to block lock on and missles.

Not too hard, and not at all.... I've been somewhat hidden while firing off all 3 rounds or hit a rooftop if available. but yea... whiners gonna whine. doesn't need to be nerfed

In the right hands, Stingers are very, very good. This is the type of player that uses cover, locks on/fires from places they're hard to see and places that are normally not full of infantry, and doesn't do dumb shit like cross wide open terrain while looking at the sky to get a lock. Oh, and these people also coax shitty pilots to pop flares before they even launch a Stinger, which pretty much guarantees the next shot will take him down.

In the wrong hands, they're useless. These are the people who expect to knock down talented pilots solo while also capturing a contested flag, or people who stand on an open rooftop, or people that lay prone in highly-traveled areas and think they're gonna do shit.

Plus, let's not forget that there's a big tradeoff for any player that intends to take down choppers/planes: they can't do shit about tanks (unless they have a Javelin and a squadmate to paint targets, but if they're that advanced, they deserve to be able to down both land and air).

Stingers are fine.

Well this is kind of cool. Kind of. Just got an email from GameFly since I have been renting BF3. Apparently GameFly got a limited amount of online pass codes (full pass, not limited time use) that they are sending out to people that are renting the game.

Sadly, I bought my code already ($10 was worth it for a rental in my opinion) but in a week or so when I get it, if anyone here needs it let me know. I know that is unlikely since you are all playing online, but maybe you know a friend?

So I didn't get there yet, but the engineer's A-91 says "The bullpup configuration prevents the A-91 from mounting either a bipod or a foregrip. " yet my next fucking unlock is a foregrip lol. Can't wait to see how this works.
