    Wisdom Teeth

Oh what a joy this is. I had all 4 removed wednesday and i would say i'm sore as a mother fucker, but the pain meds they gave me keep me relativly chipper, lol. It's been over 24 hours so i took my gauze out, but i'm curious what foods i can have to eat and extra precautions i need to take still and for how long. Also, what are dry sockets? The surgeon explained it to me but i was still fucked up from the IV sedation that i dont remember. So far all i've had to eat was jello, chicken noodle soup, and mashed potatoes. I'm freaking starving. Share your experiances with this wonderful procedure! and recovery stories!

I was out with friends eating fast food the day after. Just don't be a pussy, clean your shit out and don't use a straw. You shouldn't be in any sort of pain after the first day either, take 800mg of ibuprofen every 8 hours or whenever you need it for pain or if you are not going to be out of the house, pop some heavy drugs which I'm sure they gave you.

How do I clean them out well? I was told to brush lightly but that's about it. The guy really didnt tell me much of anything and I dont want to risk ripping out my stitches or something.

Depends. My top 2 were a piece of cake, pulled right out in minutes; but my bottom 2 were horrible. The roots were all growing at different angles and thus had to be drilled and pulled out in pieces. It took about 3 hours. It was absolutely horrible.

As far as food, I just ate soup and jello for a couple days, abused my percocet, and drank a lot of alcohol.

Dry sockets happen when the blood clot around the tooth socket is disrupted. It causes a sort of inflamation/irriitation on the underlying bone in your jaw. The reason you don't want to drink from a straw is because the negative pressure created in your mouth has a high chance dislodge the blood clot which will lead to dry sockets. There is no treatment for dry sockets, so if it happens, you just have to wait out the pain for a few days.

I was prescribed some mouth wash, but if you don't have it, just rinse your mouth out with warm salt water every few hours.

I had stitches too since they had to also cut into my gums to remove mine, so I can appreciate the sensetivity.

After the first day, I wasn't really uncomfortable anymore, although still sore and couldn't eat harder foods for a few days more. I didn't end up with much swelling at all, which I was surprised by.

Actually there is a treatment for dry sockets.

They take like little pieces of rubber bands, coat them in some kind of clove oil and shove em in the hole.

Although, I'm not sure it's as much of a "treatment" as just more pain relief.

Yeah, my bottom ones were horrific. I believe "impacted" was the term they used. one of them was angled downward and growing tword the root of the one next to it. Not to mention the other was right on top of a nerve and it constantly gave me headaches. When I called and asked the chick at the office about the warm salt water thing she was like "uh...why would you do that? salt water tastes icky." ...yeah. I just want to do all I can to heal asap cause i fucking want some pizza and i want to play beer pong. Btw, how long before I can drink again?

Also if you're a smoker. Don't listen to the dentist about the no-smoking-for-a-week nonsense. Just put gauze in and don't inhale too hard.

I remember getting my bottom ones out... I need to get my 2 top ones out now though ]=
I had complications with my surgery, and they had to cut my jaw bone... So, I had chipmunk cheeks for over a week. It was so painful. I lost like, probably 10lbs... And then my apatite was fucked up, so I eventually lost like 15 more lbs. lol

    Wisdom Teeth = not fun!

I love my doctor, he gave me 20 oxycodone along with 10 anti-nausea pills(forget the name of those buggers) and also recommended me to take 2 Advil each time I took one of the percocets. I think I was suppose to take 1 perc every 6 hours but ended up doing it every 4-5 after the first few because I could start to feel shit. By the time I ran out of meds I could take 3-4 Advil and that would kill the pain. Didn't even get any dry sockets! And to think, I was actually kind of worried about it.

I had all 4 removed. Top two were extracted normally, but the bottom two hadn't even broken the surface so they cut those out.

To answer what a dry socket is: When they pull your tooth they leave a big ass hole in your gum. Your bodies natural response to a hole is to fill it with blood and close it off so it can begin to heal. A dry socket is when this blood clot that fill the hole falls out and you're left with just an empty hole, a "dry socket".

I had all 4 removed at once. All of them were impacted so I got put under.

After the surgery, there was so much blood in my mouth it was unreal and I was sort of queesy. I remember spitting an entire mouthful of blood into a parking lot on the way home.

Maybe that was all it took, I don't know, but I ended up with dry socket. The pain was unbearable, probably the worst I've been through and I've gone through a kidney stone which took a week to pass that was pretty bad.

Pills didn't do much of anything for my pain and I pretty much couldn't eat or sleep more than a few hours at a time for a straight week. Seriously... worst week of my life. At least they're gone.

Had all of mine taken out almost two months ago. Remember talking to the surgeon one moment and then waking up laughing my ass off the next. Nurses were looking at me like I lost my mind (got put under).

Only intense pain I can remember was waiting to get my pain killers and waiting for my mom to roll the car around the street. As soon as I got in the car, I passed out until I got home. After that, I was fine aside from having my lower gums swollen for a couple of days.

Got a nice blood stain on my new pillow at the time to remember that day by too.

Last thing I remember when I had mine taken out was breathing in the NO2, them sticking the needle in my arm, and me telling the doc not to let my mother pull them (because at the consultation she had mentioned that she had been a dental hygienist for 4 years and the doc said she could pull the ones that didn't need to be cut out) lol

I had my top two done at the same time, took about thirty seconds once everything was ready. No problem with pain after those. For whatever reason I only had a wisdom tooth on my bottom left, no bottom right, and that bottom one was a pain in the ass. The dentist didn't wait until the numbing medicine kicked in fully before he started breaking pieces of the tooth out, even after I told him I could still feel my mouth. I've had back surgery and have shattered my wrist in a four-wheeler accident, but getting that wisdom tooth pulled without the numbing medicine working was probably the worst pain I've ever felt. Seemed like it took forever to stop hurting too, which sucked considering how fast my upper ones healed.
