Any site that doesn't contain playonline in it
&
Person that isn't a Gm
= IT AINT FUCKING REAL.
You must be really retarded for falling for it, jfc.
Lol! And look at the horrible fucking grammar. I'm sorry, but I just don't seem to understand how you could fall for something like that lol. My initial reaction would've been to call a GM and have them investigate whats going on, not going immediately to the website. The only way I could see anyone falling for this is a lack of brain cells and a shit ton of paranoia that you've done something wrong, therefore you're worried something is actually happening.
But thanks for the heads up regardless, even though I hardly doubt I'd fall for anything like that, lol... I wouldn't go to a website that even a GM told me to go to unless it was playonline or something.
They said Gold.
kk, seriously.. How could you fall for that lol. I mean kudos for admitting you did, seriously, but "Cock slapping keyboard name" coupled with "Non-Pol Website" coupled with lack "Bonus trip to Jail" coupled with "etc..." It musta been 2:30 am after playing 72 hours straight whilst on Codine and vodka, and absolutely no food.
Glad you got your account safe, and GL on your Lu Shangs' lol...
Spoiler: show
I am currently laughing at you for falling for that.
XD
Keep spam posts and "UR RETARDED" out of this.
Give us the link, why blank it out. I want to go troll it, or we can at least make GM calls of this so perhaps maybe they can make a POL Announcement!
If you post it here and anyone gets their account stolen because they put their POL ID and Password on there, we can laugh at their expense.![]()
Oh god, phishing skill up is awesome.
A winnar is indeed you.
Did you GM his name? Or did you say that and I miss read. Was it a /tell or email? From your info, it seems as if it was a tell but it sounds more likely that an email would fool a person.
Also even though people are saying this and that about how you should have caught this before doing it, it is good you posted it to inform others. I sometimes wonder how a typical rmt tell looks to a new player and wonder if people think that these messages are official. I suppose if an experienced player could be even slightly vulnerable to these type of tells, a new player certainly could.
Glad you managed to wrangle your account back. You can report it without screen shots, good to let stf know this is occurring.
Pirian
Thanks for posting this! We all make mistakes and it's great that you are willing to share your's to help others avoid the same thing.
/bow
It's on the main page as you log in now (after you click "PLAY"), SE put up a full warning that you have to agree to before you log in kind of like the server maintenance messages. I don't know how to post SS so I cannot show it but its when you log in. Looks like the rmt are getting desperate with token taking their pie away.
Edit :I wrote this by hand reading the announcement until someone posts it for us.

Warning Regarding PlayOnline Password Fraud
It has come to our attention that certain individuals are contacting FINAL FANTASY XI players in-game, and referring them to fake websites resembling the log-in page of the official Linkshell Community site. The fraudulent site directs players to enter their PlayOnline ID and password, with the intent of using the collected information to compromise the account. We are currently investigating and working to take the appropriate actions against these malicious websites.
Be careful of your information so as not to become a victim of "phishing." Do not disclose your PlayOnline ID or password to anyone or attempt to Log-in anywhere other than the official FINAL FANTASY XI Linkshell Community and PlayOnline website.
* The only exception is when dealing directly with a PlayOnline Information Center representative via the PlayOnline Service & Support Web Chat system. You may be asked for your PlayOnline ID or registration code in such cases.
Also, please note that no Square Enix representative (Game Master (GM staff included) will ever ask you to provide your PlayOnline ID or password from within the game or via e-mail. If you experience such a request while in-game, please contact a GM to report it.
Keep your data safe! Keep your PlayOnline ID and Password secure!"
I rushed right over here and everything.
Warning Regarding PlayOnline ID and Password Fraud
Ok easier to post now lol after I sight typed that whole thing, yay employment skills in my mmorpg!
Edit:
Posted a thread in Advanced about it, hope I don't get banned for it.![]()
Most of us think we're too smart to get caught by scams, and most of the people who get caught by scams think they're too smart to get caught by them.
I almost got caught by one a while back (not game-related) because I was off-guard for a few minutes. It's one I'd seen a few times before and had always managed to dodge. We got out of it by quoting chapter and verse from the State Attorney-General and having a credit card company that gave a damn.
Real life is like FFXI, you're never 100% protected 100% of the time.
So you...
1. believed an order from a non GM telling you you're gonna be banned.
2. The tell says "Gold" I dont know any player ingame nevermind a GM call Gil gold
3. followed a random link from a obviously random named Player "NKJNLIUDSHALuhsa" or w/e...
seriously man you had to have been so drunk/high to fall for that.
EDIT~~~ Max™ has the greatest "spoiler" sig ever, most satisfactory!!
:D
Credit goes to Gulk for posting the pic, I just borrowed it cause it is made of awesome.
For a second, I thought it was Priran who got scammed. But yeah, horrible grammar raises red flags with me, even moreso than the fact it wasn't a [GM].
What's your take on what this means for RMT?
I had interpreted in game /tells as a sign that demand had fallen. However, if this was RMT, it strikes me that perhaps this is not the case. I'm sure that hijacking accounts is a faster way to accumulate gil (compared to ah games and nm camping), so long as they have confidence that they can sell it.
Everytime I see a post about another linkshell rmt'ing their bank in order to buy NASA, I shudder. The fact that RMT will purchase gil from players is a sign that there is still demand. Although it's far too late, SE would do wonders to make a statement that Gil Buyers will be banned (even if they have no intention of following through.) Players that value playing the game enough to pay for gil will be players that value their account enough to not do so, if the penalty is high.
I'll be awaiting the next SE RMT policy in FFXIV.
