    highend Low fps in whitegate

Hey guys i have a weird problem with my Pc. While running FFxi in whitegate and other zones where alot of people are at i run fps around 16-23 and if im in front of the Mh or Ah i drop to 7-9ish. While i know lag is normal in these zones I run a pretty highend pc. my pc spec are..

    Asus P6t Mobo
    VelociRaptor WD3000GLFS 300GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive
    BFG Tech BFGEGTX2951792E GeForce GTX 295 1792MB 896 (448 x 2)-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16
    Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz Oc'ed 3.5GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor
    G.SKILL 12GB (6 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel

    Im Running Vista 64bit.

All my other games run sweet but FFxi must hate me or something.

I just wish to run around 29.4 - 30 fps everywhere I can go
thanks in advance for help ^^

It's not you.. crowded areas, situations where there's a lot of summoned avatars, Dynamis, standing near teleport crystals and certain weather conditions will lag your ass no matter how good your machine is. A lot of chat log scroll will also kick your ass.

You can try turning shadows & weather effects off, setting your chat filters, & setting damage to appear graphically instead of in the log in those kind of situations to alleviate the problem.

As Olo says shadows or weather are good places to do that. Depending on whether or not you like the sound of the game you could turn that off as well for a bit of a boost. I always had the sound/shadows off and rarely saw any kind of major slowdown (still not rock solid at the AH or besieged).

Will also probably run better on XP in addition to what has been said

weather shouldn't be a huge issue as it's offloaded mostly to the gpu.

Shadows are the real cpu killer though, as well as characters on screen.
