Good lord do I hate it though.

well like I said, I don't use the rule myself so I was trying to think of what might prompt me to do so, only thing I could come up with is the death threats thing. lol iirc mod sass was created because mods got tired of getting bitched at all the time. I can't remember what actually made the rule go into effect, its been awhile.
Also there is no such thing as "earn respect" as a mod. Usually, the mods that have the most respect...are the ones that don't do anything. Maybe I'm a little apathetic to the whole thing. Like I've mentioned before, this is not the first forum I've been a moderator for. I've been a forum whore since the first day I got internet access over 10 years ago. Every forum is pretty much the same. There are the mods that do nothing, and get on a high horse because of the "regular poster respect", but annoy the other mods. Then there are the mods that actually do a lot of action, and get bitched at constantly by 7-10 outspoken posters, but get "mod/admin respect" And then there's usually like one mod that manages to find the middle ground. It seems to be a general pattern on all the forums I've been at. So I've learned never to get mod rage, and never let it get to me because it's nothing new.
To think that the one who are most accepted are people who just go about things subtly or realize when something is not a big deal instead of being uptight morons.Usually, the mods that have the most respect...are the ones that don't do anything.
You think this shit woulda been realized when elphaba got lambasted for being a snitch twat but no.
I wouldn't say the two are separated for maturity levels. Spam is a place where you can say anything you want, make multiple posts in a line, do w/e you want, without having to follow the rules. General has to stay ontopic (no matter how mature the topic) and follow the fules.
Something about not being able to tolerate high temperatures and exiting the area which produces the aforementioned hot temperatures, etc... My point is, if you're not smart enough (or man enough so to speak) to bother explaining or defending your actions when you are in a position of authority over others, then it is safe to say you have no business in said position. Again, they're only crippling you, they're not doing you any service.
I see what you're saying, but I think you missed my point. They are drawing gigantic targets on you people. They're making you look STUPID. Inept. That's a bit different, wouldn't you say? No wonder they lose so many mods. I see names turning from dark blue to bright turquoise and back every other day it seems. No one ever wonders why?
Choosing battles etc, I think that's where he's going -- and I agree
By the way Day, pretending like you don't get the joke doesn't make you cool.
@ Sera: IAS is Day's "Panic Room" when spam starts becoming to harsh for him.
I plan to stay on how I have been though, celebating from IAS. No reason to post in IAS anyway.
I white knight you guys too just so you know, hope you feel like crap now.
You people are crazy over this
I do understand what you're saying and I do agree to an extent. a set guildlines would be nice, but that also puts a lot a pressure on the posters as well to "behave". And if a poster sees a lsit of 50+ things they can and can't do, they probably won't follow it.
One of the reason though too about mods leaving is either from extreme cases (i.e. rocl max melting spam) to people who step down for various reasons (i.e. ryko sold acc). So it's not strictly from getting burnt out. You do have a sense of keeping apathetic, and do have to pick your battles.
Yeah, but if you didn't bother making bullshit rules like banning [insert joke/word etc] for merely being annoying, and only made rules about important shit, you wouldn't have that problem, see.
I didn't say that they should make their stupid rules more specific, I said they should stop making stupid rules, and start making the rules that are not retarded more specific.
