Bad mic?

So I bought those over a year ago. My mic was working fine last night, no problems at all. I didn't change a thing since then. But today, everyone says there's nothing but static, and I can hear said static myself when I test it in steam. My sound drivers and windows don't see my mic anymore. Even if I unplug and plug it back in. The sound works fine though. Did my mic just die, or what?

Exactly what happened to my logitech microphone. I went out and purchased a second one and it worked just fine. I guess they just like to break when you're asleep. I even tested a spare headset at the time by plugging it into the mic port and it worked, too.

Might as well get another $12 one, because a $50 headset breaks just as easily and will piss you off much more. Buy it at a retail store so you can return it, too.

Whenever this happens to me, I have to do a mix of toggling mic boost on/off in sound settings, as well as in game plus turning the mic on and off. It sucks, but eventually I usually get it to work again.

Logitech headphones seem to be pretty disposable recently....
