Speaking purely as a layman, I don't see the downsides of a preemptive action are so grave that such an option should be removed from the table. I would wager the US Air Force can destroy most NK artillery pieces without being seen and before they could react if things got serious. Not to say that this would be the best choice of even an ok one, but it must be better to disable as many artillery pieces as possible before they ever have a chance to be used then not. Allowing them to develop a long range delivery system for a nuclear weapon would make them much more difficult to approach by any means – be it diplomatic or not.
That said I don’t think their current actions would justify such a response just yet, but their ass is pushing it.
How exactly would NK start a war? How many allies do they actually have? China isn't going to back them up, I don't see who else would.
A war can last a day or less, you know.
if only NK had some sort of useful natural resource...
i'm not saying it'd benefit us, but it'd get the balls rolling
I think the stupid stereotypical attitude is the "america is so trigger happy".
Look at the "great" civilizations of our past and you will see kingdoms killing without mercy and looking to conquer the world. I think the world would benefit from a more tyrant world leader (not saying we're not tyrants, but nowhere near the level of say the greeks or romans).
As far as world powers go, we stick to terrorizing third world countries to exploit them, rather than knocking out our close competition, which is what others have done in human history.
Social Darwinism
300 sucked, what I'm saying is that people suck the nuts of older civilizations who are way more barbaric than the US is.
Hitler was closer to mimicking the past civilizations than the US ever will.
When the US falls from power, which seems to be around the corner, next in line seems to be unanimously China, and well, that should be interesting, hope I'm around for it.
Kiddo
you know, there's a key word in the phrase "past civilizations" that you might wanna pay attention to.
You know what's really funny about this statement?
Nobody in the U.S. makes money or anything of Iraqi oil. Iraqi oil supplies China, not us.
Everyone that bitches about the oil is pretty much entirely missing the fact that the oil wasn't the purpose, it was the plain old outright war profiteering.
My reference to past civilizations pertains to the attitude that the US is this evil monster destroying the world, when in fact in terms of the history of civilizations (even a few hundred years ago) the US isn't that bad.
Thanks for skipping the rest of my post, I guess you probably ran off to prepare for China being the "super power" when the US loses it, cause things are going to be real fucked up, hello Tibet.
